Great vid, imo the biggest safety factor is, one can save & cash in sn isa at anytime if the need ever arises or there is a deal to be had on say a property or other expense, pensions you untouchable until retirement, even then one can only withdraw 25% the rest is an annuity. I personally don't trust any govt to not touch the gold plated pension as a cashcow !!

Great video. I'm in the retire early camp. Want to stop working by 50 so ISA contributions are important to the overall plan. Although I'm an additional rate taxpayer I don't want to be too pension heavy so getting the right balance between pensions and Isa amounts is what I'm trying to figure out

If you use a pension for what it was intended, to provide you with an income during retirement, then it is definitely still worth it. If you’re worried about what you leave behind, then things have changed.

Good video, I’m about to start using FAD soon. If your over the old LTA which I know has been abolished for the tests parts at crystallisation and age 75 but the max tax free lump sum is still based on it would it make sense to crystallise the maximum amount to lock in the £268k. I’m above the old LTA in fund value currently but heavily invested in shares/ETFs which could fall in value back below the LTA. I don’t plan on taking much out of the pension in drawdown but I can’t see a downside to crystalising it whilst it’s above the old LTA to lock in the £268k tax free benefit. Am I missing something? The only thing I can think of is if the tax free amount became more generous later but I think that’s unlikely in the current climate.

I read on the Motley Fool that the US treats pensions more favourably with regards to income from US stocks, in that qote "The IRS recognises a SIPP as a qualifying pension scheme. Therefore, all qualifying US dividends and interest contained in this savings and investment vehicle are paid in whole and free of any withholding tax." Where as, if held within an ISA they are subject to a 30% withholding tax, or 15% if a W-8BEN form is filled out. How do you think this should be considered, as I would bet a great many have a huge part of their investments in US shares?
