more discussions If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. Let’s look at some basic fundamental facts based on extensive research & ongoing R&D. During fetal development a verity of biochemical agents are introduced which determine the development of the fetus. Major agents such as testosterone & estrogen & a host of others agents determine size, weight, hair color, eye color & sexuality along with a host of other traits. Variations in the amount & timing of the introduction of these agents have a major effect in our development. The fetus is a passive participant & has no influence in these matters. Sexuality, for example, & all other secondary traits are thus given to us. Well, this begs the question, is homosexuality a sin. If your religion or belief system states that it is, then there can be no argument. These are the rules based on this system’s dogma. If you accept this system, you must accept the rules. This is your only choice which is condemnation. If, however, you are in a belief system based on logic, reason, observation & common sense, & no reliance on spirituality the conclusion is totally different. Replacing ancient religion & mythology with reason leads to another conclusion. Leaving religions that use condemnation & ridicule for control, can be the first step in becoming a true human being minus any imposed or fabricated guilt. There exist many variations of human sexual expression. When you leave various ancient religious beliefs behind & chose knowledge based in research, you can see & understand the true nature of humanity. You leave ignorance, hatred, & prejudice behind. In the book Gay Straight & the Reason Why by Simon Levay PhD, explanations regarding this aspect of humanity are clearly explained & is based on research. While I am not gay, I highly recommend this book. Being gay is no more of a sin than having red hair. They are both based on genetics & clearly not a sin. There is nothing wrong with you. truth If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various hormones are introduced at specific times to accomplish this .The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is, therefore, born with a predetermined attraction. It is, therefore, not a choice & consequently not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural expression of our species & found commonplace in nature. Intelligent research in this area clearly explains this process. If you are truly interested in truth, based on knowledge, the book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay shows this with numerous research articles. If you want to understand the truth & have respect for yourself & others, that you are entitled to, this book will help. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by men that had no understanding of science, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book. The public must be exposed to facts & knowledge. It is an obligation for those who know the truth & must defend it. Don’t let the religious pull you down to their level of ignorance. Peace

That's what critical thinkers do. We don't just regurgitate nonsensical talking points like the woke left does. We constantly question ourselves and ask ourselves if we are wrong. When someone doesn't question themselves, it's not confidence, they've been brainwashed. Being open minded doesn't mean accepting everything (like the woke left does), it means being open to having your beliefs, morals and values challenged. Father Mike is an amazing and brilliant priest. One of the things I like about him is that he comes across as friendly and approachable, but not in that cheesy way that some priests can be where it’s all about them. One of the issues Fr Mike addresses really well is the difference between experience and identity. Too often, especially in American culture, people think that their personalities and identities are defined by the experiences they have. Also, and he hints at this as well, we live in a culture that very much preaches a message of “if you have a desire, that desire is automatically good, and that desire must be satisfied.“ What the Catholic Church teaches and which is very difficult for many people, is the idea of delayed gratification or making sacrifices, which means not always giving into every desire you have. But if you live in a culture that believes you are expected to give into every desire and that your experience of doing that identifies you, it’s obviously very difficult to resist that.

It was only after the Supreme Court arbitrarily forced the rest of the country and the states were forced to adopt a definition of marriage that rendered the word meaningless, that's when opinions started to change. This one is a real struggle for me. I have several gay family members and friends. And all of them feel they were born that way. As a heterosexual, I always try to imagine what if society told me I was wrong, and I had to be attracted to the same sex? Could I do that? The answer is no. I simply can't accept that our innate sexuality is a choice. And so I do have to wonder why God allows people to be born that way, and their only real choice to remain in a state of grace is to live a life of chastity. I don't believe they can "convert" and change their innate sexual preference. And I think that would be unfair to a future spouse, as I have seen people try to be "straight" and ultimately their relationship fails because of their innate sexual preference. I'm not saying the Church is wrong on this issue, but it's definitely one I don't understand. I had a priest tell me once that he thought when we die we'll all have questions for God about things we didn't understand. This will be one of mine.

I hope this acts as some sort of answer for it..at least this is the way I interprete it. Being celibate doesn't mean a life of loneliness and when you encounter the true love of god you won't limit love to a body part. Father Mike most priests do uphold a life of celibacy ( as you know ) and don't regret there decision because Christ brings so much more. I was chaste with my now wife for almost 5 years before we got married. Even now if some reason we could never have sex again I feel I'd be OK with that. It's enjoyable for sure but the joys of life, giving, and sacrifice brings more pleasure then sex ever really could. The hard part tho is getting someone who does struggle with it to see that truth and look past societal norms

@@phillipcockrell5503 I think there's a huge difference between adults who are attracted to the same sex and enter into a relationship consensually and adults who prey on children. I'm pretty sure God sees a difference there too. They may both be sins, but there are degrees of sin. Additionally, in the Catholic faith my understanding is it is very difficult for a man with SSA to enter the priesthood. I suspect it would be similar for a woman with SSA to enter a convent. In either situation, you would be living with members of the same sex, and basically living in a state of constant temptation.

Hi, I've studied something about psicology and yes, people in the first years can decide their sexuality most of the times through their parents relationship, for exemple most of people Who consider themself omosexual have a very present mother and a inconsistent father. Messages like injunction (destructive for the existence and the persona) of this type can be hiden under other more destructive or less social accepted injunctions... and they pass in infant age... they can be in the form of direct message, for exemple a mother that dresses a boy like a girl, or who wanted a girl so much that someway passes her intention to the Kid, It can be an indirect message like the refuse or the insults to the partner or other sex in general, It can also be Just interpreted that way by the Kid, that is the ultimate decision maker and judge of that all... He has an infantile decision to make, and than all his Life will be, if not helped, hiding his sadness under other problems thinking that that injunction Is real for everyone or it "Is Wat It Is", and can't change . And the ultimate problem in this situation Is the "Pride". Hope to bring another point of view, Sorry for my bad english. Have a nice life, take care!

If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. Let’s look at some basic fundamental facts based on extensive research & ongoing R&D. During fetal development a verity of biochemical agents are introduced which determine the development of the fetus. Research has shown that major agents such as testosterone & estrogen & a host of others agents determine size, weight, hair color, eye color & sexuality along with a host of other traits. Variations in the amount & timing of the introduction of these agents have a major effect in development. The fetus is a passive participant & has no influence in these matters. Sexuality, for example, & all other secondary traits are thus given to us. Well, this begs the question, is homosexuality a sin since there is no choice offered. The fetus has no willful acceptance. However, if your religion or belief system states that it is a sin, then there can be no discussion. These are the rules based on this system’s dogma. If you accept this system, you must accept the rules. Facts are irrelevant. This is your only choice which doesn’t include options & exceptions. If the rules say it is a sin, So be it. If, however, you are in a belief system based on logic, reason, observation & common sense, & no reliance on spirituality or religion, the conclusion is totally different. Replacing ancient religion & mythology & superstition with reason leads to another conclusion. Leaving religions that use condemnation & ridicule for control, can be the first step in becoming a true human being minus any imposed or fabricated guilt. There exist many variations of human sexual expression as well in the animal kingdom. While I am not gay, I highly recommend this book & the numerous articles. Being gay is no more of a sin than having red hair. They are both determined by genetics & clearly not a sin. There is nothing wrong with you. This is the true choice. Peace

God did not make any human being sexually aberrant. Our bodies are not designed to healthily engage sexually with the same sex. Males experience cancers, anal retainage deficiencies, deadly diseases and sterility- and an end to their genetic line. This is aside from the spiritual ramifications. Females the same. God designed us with parts meant to engage with their counterparts of the opposite sex, in marriage. Praise God for such a good gift. May those who struggle with SSA find their way to Jesus.

Viewer Discretion you must read CS Lewis’s “The Problem of Pain”. In response to your question whether “we cause”, definitely not to the point of abuse - but disciplining children is extremely important and some suffering is necessary for them (and us) to learn. Here’s another wonderful quote from CS Lewis: “Isn't God supposed to be good? Isn't He supposed to love us? Does God want us to suffer? What if the answer to that question is, 'Yes'"? I suggest to you that it is because God loves us that He [gives] us the gift of suffering. "I'm not sure that God wants us to be happy. I think He wants us to be able to love and be loved. He wants us to grow-up. We think our childish toys bring us all the happiness there is and our nursery is the whole wide world. But something must drive us out of the nursery to the world of others and that something is suffering. "You see, we are like blocks of stone out of which the sculptor carves forms of men. The blows of His chisel, which hurt so much, are what makes us perfect." - C. S. Lewis

Homosexuality and alcoholism/cheating are not even comparable, because homosexuality is much more than sexual desire-it’s who you love most intimately, who you want to spend your life with. Something concerning love, one of the most fundamental aspects of being human, can’t be dismissed as an act-it’s much more deeper than that-it’s connection. That connection and relationship is part of one’s identity in a way a habit of cheating or alcoholism cannot ever be.

God alone determines that and the Catholic faith gives us the prescribed way to follow the best we can. Any kind of deviations or stretching to include this or that is treading a dangerous path. But the worst thing is for Catholics, especially Priest and Bishops to go about teaching something other than the prescribed truth as we know it. It would be easy to go the way of free love and sex for all as long as it's with love and meaning, but what the Bible says or Jesus' words are " a hard teaching." On my journey to becoming an atheist I had a conversation with my pastor at the time. Im not homosexual, but the data is in and while sure there may be environmental influences for sexual orientation, but its more biological. Regardless of original sin, or god making the person that way, people can be born homosexual. While asking "why did God make me this way" isn't the best question, the point they are Illuding to is valid. Reguardless if it was gods intention or due to the original sin of another being,, they are this way without a choice. Humans have 2 truly primal drives, survival and sex. While either of these guys may have some struggles, im in doubt either of them struggle with something this deeply engraved in our base psyche. To deem this as immoral is the real question. God never adequately explains why this is considered immoral. I have yet to see how or why it is either. After a bit of back and forth I could tell that he wasn't grasping the point i was trying to make. So I posited this as an example, what if homosexuality was the only way to reproduce and it is what God deemed holy and moral. Now heterosexuality was deemed immoral by God. So your attraction to your wife was deemed wrong and acting on that is a sin. Imagine this and then explain why this is now immoral and a sin? There isn't a real justification for it and the same applies to when we apply this to our current situation. He had no answer to this and after I looked on my own I also found no answer other than "God said so". This, is the crux of the issue for the the theists. Even farther if you want to believe this is some devine will thats fine, youre free to believe this and I have no issue with that so long as you treat others with respect. Where I take issue is legislation that prevents people from marring who they choose. If the state, which was founded on the idea of being separated from religion, can recognize heterosexual marriage it needs to also recognize homosexual marriage. If you personally don't want to recognize it thats also your choice, but to attempt to hold your beliefs to others is not the right path.

I think it comes to the premise that sex's main purpose is the survival of the animal species by sexual reproduction. Homosexual sex doesn't bear offspring, therefore, it's only purpose is for sexual gratification and pleasure (sometimes deemed egotistical and selfish, just like masturbation, in church). Morality is subjective though... and it may have been different back in that time, than it is now. These days people can do whatever they want with their bodies, but christianity says to be warned, for we will be held accountable for the care we gave our bodies.
@jlayman894 жыл бұрын
@@mariokestler5390 then any sexual action that isnt with the intent to bear offspring is wrong? Even within the confines of heterosexual marriage?
@mariokestler53904 жыл бұрын
@@jlayman89 Biblically speaking, intercourse was meant exclusively for marriage which was the union of a man and a woman, GIVEN the result of the act itself (bearing offspring, taking care and raising it until adulthood). Even in marriage, certain practices and rules took place, for example, not having sex with women on their periods, or men with nocturnal emissions (ejaculation). Masturbation, I think, was also a no-no, due to the ejaculating factor for men, deeming them impure, and for women I'm not sure what repercussions masturbating brought. So, it's not that sex was meant only for the conception of babies, but because that's the effect that coitus brings, and with that, the responsibilities of parenting in a Bible-structured family. Not that there weren't exceptions, but that's the original 'natural' biblical way. In the times of the Bible, researchers concluded that certain diseases could already be transmitted sexually, so I would think all the DOs and DON'Ts of sex were mostly health precautions, but IDRK 🤷🏻♂️. I only stated that homosexual sex may have been catalogued as an immoral act because it goes against God's original design for anatomy and reproductive phyisilogy, which is that sexual intercourse happens between male and female genitalia, and in the boundaries of marriage, so that the effects of sex (offspring) would be taken care of by the progenitors of the child. Just in case it's not implied, this is an opinion anyone can disagree with. I'm not telling anyone what to believe or not. I'm just pointing out why would it be unlikely for heterosexual sex be looked as immoral, contrary to homosexual sex, in regards of the hypothetical case shown above. It doesn't show my personal views, which are that anyone could do with their own bodies what they want, and that parenting is not exclusively a heterosexual task in these times. EDIT: I would also like to add (if this was the main focus of your question), that some acts like oral or anal sex within marriage, that the Bible doesn't speak of, and have no offspring-creating purposes I would also deem as immoral for "not following the instructions manual", because neither the mouth nor the rectum were designed biologically for sexual penetration, BUT 1) That's my personal opinion (not that I live by it anyway). 2) Anything related to what you can or can't do in your married sex life is between you, your spouse and God. Ask Him if it is permitted. If anyone should have the answer, it's Him.

This question has already been answered by science. Sexuality can be affected by a number of factors, genetic and environmental, but it's not a choice. It is biological.
@Acaykath4 жыл бұрын
He said sex was a choice, not sexuality. You have thousands of urges every day, and it is your choice to act on them. That is the corruption of sin, and you can act on the urges, like stealing from a store, cheating on your wife, lying to your boss, etc... But, even if it is pleasurable to act on those urges, it does not mean that acting on those urges is right. Similarly, if someone acts on those urges, it doesn't turn it into an 'us vs them scenario', but a 'we all have our crosses to bear' scenario. We have to understand that we all want to do things that are not good, sometimes we resist temptation, sometimes we purposefully avoid temptation, and sometimes we allow it to control us. It is not expected for us to not be tempted, or even perfect at resisting temptation, but we should not encourage sinful behaviours, nor should we reject people who have given in to temptation. However, when someone tells us that they are a sinner, and we MUST affirm that their sin is GOOD, we must disagree. We can all agree that sinful behaviours are natural. But, Natural does not mean good. As intelligent beings, we can choose to act against these natural inclinations and we do so every day. We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but he will not give us a cross too difficult for us to bear.

I’m very happy in this conversation for Matt Fradd to interject and point out the err in Fr Mikes thought process. Sometimes I wonder what it is ppl think being gay means and I’d love for these to men to sit and discuss that… for example what has being gay got to do with having sex? Maybe I don’t want to have sex with another gay person but I know I am gay. What about as a child I knew I was gay and as much as I did feel shame about being gay I never felt that shame as a child… in fact growing up I learnt where adults were not accepting and comfortable with me being myself around them. Having to constantly fix myself in my life in unnatural ways so that I didn’t make adults think I was gay or that way inclined. I was a child of 5 knowing this about myself. And more importantly why would God create an innocent child in that way and have them inclined towards being gay… very gay. If the church asks gay ppl to be so disciplined with their sexuality than heterosexual ppl; then what place in religion does that put gay ppl? Are we to be celibate? Are we to be priests? Should we have our own order of spiritual endeavor? Like convents and monasteries for gay religious? If we’re serious about our faith than can we actually keep believing that God creates ppl homosexual in order to make young kids hide who they are, suffer the torments of coming out and a life of never actualizing your wants when everyone else doesn’t have to worry about that. Did God create a divide in human nature like this on purpose?

I'm aromantic and I don't understand attraction much beyond aesthetic, but imagine me being dumb enough to tell heteros "Don't marry, ignore your desires and remain single because Paul says those who do serve the Lord better". See how ridiculous that looks when you apply it to reality? Well that's how they look to me, because they are ignorant.

HERE SOME SCIENTIFIC FACTS ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY: + The WHO, World Health Organization, stated clearly, that homosexuality not a disease or disorder, but a healthy natural sexual orientation. + It is most likely innate (determined by SNP in several genes and by antibodies (NLGN4Y) during pregnancy), as the opposite sex is never sexual attractive to people born homosexual. + Evolution scientists stated in several publications, that homosexuality exists since sexuality exists, since 385 million years. + They also stated, that having homosexual members in the own tribe, gives several evolutionary advantages, which explains the permanent share of 4-10% homosexuals of the population. >> So, the question would be rather: why putting an ethical limit on homosexuality if its natural, healthy and even with a natural sense? >> Especially now as more and more homosexuals marry and adopt and raise kids that else wise would have no parents.

truth If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. This is the true choice. Peace

@@dan69052thank you this is a very beautiful response to my question. I do believe in the soul and in a high power. I do find a lot of that belief is not endorsed by science nor rational reason either. But that’s what’s beautiful about spirituality - it’s also the reason why spirituality is not something that can be contained within rules but the merits of my beliefs I believe would be compassion, love, mercy, forgiveness, and peace. These are things that are not really considered tools, or logical answers to issues. Thanks for your response - I don’t believe sexuality can be a sin either - I had no knowledge of it being a sin but knew I was gay from a young age.

@Lorena-ic9gsdo you think God is responsible for men and women being attracted to each other? Do you think pedophiles choose to be attracted to minors? Do you think all men or women want to have children? Is there a difference between pedophiles attraction to minors than there is to consenting adults? Do you think God is responsible for some child born one gender and by the age of 12 naturally become the opposite gender (see guevedoces and BBC research). Do you think God created a soul that is sexual at all? You think God is a male or a female? Regarding taking pleasure of torturing others - do you take pleasure telling others God doesn’t approve of them? Whats your motivation… you think Gods love is judging others or telling others they aren’t welcome? You think that’s Christian or compassionate?

@@Fedayeen77 Re. "Catholicism is messed up. Who gave this person you are speaking to and "confessing" your sins to the authority to do anything ket alone forgive you?? So messed up..." The authority and duty to forgive is in every human soul who becomes a Christian. Forgiveness is love regardless and is the essential teaching of Christianity. All Christians are repeatedly encouraged in our bible to forgive one another as God forgives us, for our forgiveness of each other is an extension or passing on of God's forgiveness. That is why we are forgiven by God as we forgive others, for God's forgiveness only flows through our self when we forgive others. As we forgive, so we are forgiven. This is all in our bible. Forgiveness heals both the forgiver and the forgiven; it heals our self, and each other, and our relationships. There is no no resentment, no grudgefulness, no shame, no hurt, where there is forgiveness. For those who know them, regret and shame are the worst of human feelings. Worse even than loneliness, for loneliness cuts us off from others, but regret and shame not only cut us off from others but also from our own conscience, from our own self. Conscience grating in the soul is an awful thing. Why would we leave someone to suffer such anguish when we can relieve them. Forgiveness gives relief to troubled souls. As regret and shame are the worst of human feelings, so forgiveness with its power to relieve is the greatest service we can provide for one another. Love is a heartfelt wish that another's suffering be minimal, and forgiveness is that part of love that enables us to love everyone, that enables us to love in all directions, that gives us no excuse not to love, for it enables us to love even those who hate us and who would harm us, it enables us to be kind to all, to be lenient and merciful. Forgiveness is the greatest power for good that our hearts can wield. Jesus gave his life teaching and demonstrating for us the power of love-forgiveness, and our church and our priests continue to teach and practice confession and forgiveness, so that we may love each other regardless, and relieve each other of regret and shame, heal each other and heal our relationships. And what we learn and practice in church we endeavour to practice in life with others, with family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues, and with those who dislike us. Naturally we frequently fail to live up to the standards of our Lord, we let our self down, and people may call us hypocrites, they rubbish us, and mock us, they call us messed up (as you did), but we persevere because we are Christians, because we are committed with the help of faith and prayer to being as loving/forgiving towards our fellow man and women as we can be.

Father Mike, regarding the “us and them” thing: Ain’t it grand when the world and society work exactly like they ought? The reality is, though, that there has been “us and them” since before there were Homo Sapiens. I am a white, heterosexual female, a senior citizen who has been loved and cared for all my life. It would be so easy to say exactly what you said and, if you will, pay lip service to someone else’s life; but that is not reality and never has been. Even in our parish, our wonderful parish, there is an English speaking Community and an Hispanic community. We both do all we can to bring everybody together; but people feel more comfortable with others who speak the same language, who enjoy the same food and culture, who share similar experiences. Honestly, the evangelization going on in the Hispanic community puts the rest of us to shame. Those guys are on fire, bringing in their friends and relatives and neighbors. Neither you nor I can ever understand what it’s like to be black, Hispanic, gay, autistic, Jewish, abused and unloved, etc. There has to be a better way of addressing these issues than telling people that they have to subscribe to “can’t we all just be friends and do it my way (because I’m right and you’re not)?“

I love this comment, specially coming from a senior citizen, perhaps this lady experienced those days when blacks were rejected and discriminated. I worked in many parishes where I used to ministry to the Hispanic community, I heard and experienced racism coming from members of the Catholic Church in this time of age. I didn't understand why the discrimination nor their actions when the church preaches that we are "one faith, one body". I am glad in your community is more incorporated. Now as an ex-catholic priest rejected by my own sinful inclinations proclaimed by the Catholic Church that being gay is a sin and will suffer eternal damnation, I felt the need to leave that toxic and hypocritical environment because I didn't feel welcomed not even loved. My only desired was to fulfill the commandment of love that Jesus himself left to us. Discrimination to the LGTBQ community is a discrimination to the commandment of LOVE. I feel it is important that if you believe about what you believe live it for yourself as much as you can, do not impose your believes unto other people. At the end God will be the judge for our own actions and ask us how we did: 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' Matthew 24:25.

Sexual orientation is not a 'want', it's not a 'lifestyle choice', it's not part of our 'fallen nature' and it no more 'disordered' than left-handedness (which also used to be severely discriminated against) or having green eyes. If you truly befriended a person who has a same-sex orientation, you'd know that they were born this way. It manifested in them from a young age; it is just as much who they are as the sexual orientation you take for granted in yourself. This is not denying that a same-sex orientation can lead to bad, sinful decisions -- just as opposite-sex orientation can lead to bad decisions -- but your desire for a 'wholistic' relationship with a person of same-sex orientation is distorted from the start if you trivialise something so central to who they are.

I understand that we need to identify all together as one people, just as Fr mike said about ‘othering’ , but I feel like it kinda leads into the same conversation as ‘we’re all the same race. The human race’ which I think can be hurtful. A black man a white man are both part of the human race but there are struggles that a black man has been through that a white man wont experience. The question I have is that if you can’t identify as gay then can you identify as anything. Homosexual, white, black, disabled etc. ? I don’t think any of the things aside from saying your an addict or identifying with a mental illness or trauma you’ve been through is bad. Everything that makes you different can be something your proud of.

@ disabilitea We should be aiming for a more inclusive, less divided global community that breaks down the superficial barriers that divide us. I agree with you that in doing this we must be careful not to down play the issues and the struggles that different minorities experience in a variety of life's facets. Having said that, I don't think saying we're all part of the same race should ever be hurtful unless it is clearly being used to de-legitimize genuine racial prejudice. In biology, I'm not aware that there is consensus on whether there is enough genetic variation in humans to categorise by race. That being said, we have clearly identified differences within ourselves leading to prejudices that must be acknowledged if they are to be defeated.

I think things the descriptors of our physical description should not divide us as a people, these things are minor. I feel we are more divided by how people think and how that leads them to see the world. We have to learn how to communicate with one another, but this is a challenge because there are so many languages and I dont mean English, Spanish, Italian, etc. I mean how we speak, how we describe, what those words mean to us personally. Look at the weird faith, love, good, evil; those words mean different things to different people. And, when it comes to things like mental illness and the assortment of disorders, we should be striving to understand. We cannot cure these things, we must adapt, and become better for it. As you said, a more inclusive society. I feel we've got a lot of work to do. More people need to be honest, more ideas need to be challenged; we cannot live in ignorant bliss. Unfortunately, I don't know the solution. For me, it's been a personal journey. I decide to challenge myself. I do it everyday, with every thought. Even now, I want to delete this and re-write this, but I've done that several times already. The only thing I have tried is challenging others by asking them questions, but the defense mechanisms they use are habitual and they don't usually recognize them. There are so many people on Earth and many perpetuate prejudice, rely on fallacies they don't seem to be aware of, and go generations carrying on traditions that are often ritualistic and often outdated. I don't know if it will ever change the way I want it to, heck, all the people who talk like me could be killed due to some "new" way of life becoming popular and the extreme becoming the norm; people are always looking for a good cause.

Fmri’s show that the same channels of attraction light up in the brain in gay men(when shown homosexual sexual content) and straight men(who were shown heterosexual sexual content). There is also a strong link between lower amounts of testosterone during pregnancy and being gay. Witness all the other animals on earth engaging in homosexual behaviors. Science is on the side that homosexuality is natural. Not to mention the serious mental health issues that arise when you repress your sexuality as an adult. It’s your life, make your own decisions. Also understand that people choose their own religion, so “God’s authority” may just be your own ideas that you are assigning to a higher power. This is the one point I have the most difficult time with. The analogies here presume that gay people don't experience urges to smoke or watch porn or whatever, and therefore can't tell the difference between those types of urges and their inherent wiring. Science even shows us that so much happens in the womb that influences gender - it is not only related to the genitalia. Is it possible that substance and accident also happen in humans? I think there is so much that we really don't know in our limited capacity. I love my church, but I have such a hard time reconciling this with both Catholic theology and with science. Faith and reason. I do appreciate that Fr. Mike acknowledged that they have to be careful about not coming across like they are talking about people who aren't part of the conversation, and creating an "us and them."

A woman who has had a hysterectomy can’t have children. No more uterus than any man has at that point . I haven’t heard one peep from the church about a woman with a hysterectomy having sex with her husband even though there is 0 potential for life . Seems to me that although there’s lots of flowery theology and “logic” applied to the doctrine , it really comes down to plain old policing of the bodies of the marginalized. Per usual . And I came into this video already very acquainted with the doctrine on homosexuality.
@juliand63174 жыл бұрын
Maggie the pope in 2010 legitimised some uses for the use of condoms. It’s a weird and complicated affair, but in the end promiscuity is the main reason why all the fuss is made. That and a desire for sex to be in its proper conception. But rest assured no catholic priest would say it was a sin for a barren wife to bed her husband.
@maggie33274 жыл бұрын
Julian D I do understand the promiscuity argument , but that can’t be applied to all gay individuals. It’s observable. Promiscuity is a behavior that can any person can partake in regardless of orientation. Simply being gay doesn’t equate to being promiscuous. I think one of the thing that bothers me the most is that again and again , gay people demonstrate that they are a) not a monolith and b) that their orientation is not simply a sort of sexual fetish or abhorration. But it seems that those from the outside looking in are intent on denying all evidence and claiming they have expertise and insight that they simply don’t possess. I love that the Catholic Church has accepted so much of modern science, but it irks me that in things regarding sexuality, that acceptance turns off. How many times do gay folks and their advocates who have roots in scientific understanding have to assert that their identity is just that -an identity ? It is convenient that this is where the conversation comes to a halt, because if we were to admit that it is an identity that isn’t alterable , we could easily see how the church’s arguments don’t hold water. As a woman I cannot pick apart and assert expertise on the topic of what it means to be a man and have that identity. Likewise we need to trust gay people when they tell us about who they are , and when medical/psychological experts tell us as well.
@maggie33274 жыл бұрын
Julian D I am not sure how contraception was introduced here. I brought up hysterectomies in order to draw a comparison to a situation that didn’t go against catholic teaching in another way that could be easily contradicted (I.e. I didn’t reference a woman getting her tubes tied because people tend to say “well we don’t agree with that either”). Promiscuity does not equate to homosexuality. As for sex being in its “natural conception”, is that not referencing the idea that sex should always allow for the potential of life ? Hence why birth control is also frowned upon. It usually comes down to that when we get into the specifics of WHY the proper conception of sex is exclusively heterosexual. Unitive + procreative. But that logic is not only applicable to gay relationships, which is why I brought up the example I did. homosexual intercourse between married men would be unitive but not pro creative. sex in an 100% infertile heterosexual marriage is unitive but not procreative.
@juliand63174 жыл бұрын
Maggie that’s my point though. The church is perfectly fine with a barren sexual married relationship. So I don’t think it’s just procreative. Unitive is important too but that isn’t the whole reason for sexual relationship. Upholding the sanctity of the nuclear Family is a big portion too, but not the whole picture either. In the end homosexuality is a corruption of the way sexuality was intended (theologically speaking). In the end, there are no other reasons needed beyond that. As an aside your point about gay individuals not all being promiscuous is true, to a degree. We can’t generalise that they all just *are* promiscuous. but we can say that it is a path to other sexual deviations and sins. Which if we look at the statistics is patently true. They are significantly more likely to engage in open/polygamous relationships, significantly more likely to engage in paedophilic activities and number of sex partners has been recorded on average as 4 times more then heterosexuals. Those are numbers by government studies. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3334840/

attention Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various agents are introduced at specific times to accomplish this .The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is, therefore, born with a predetermined orientation. It is not a choice, not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural expression of mammals & found commonplace in nature. Research in this area clearly explains this process. The book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay shows this with numerous research articles. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by goat herders, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book.Peace

@@alejandrovallejo4330 “The only way they are affected is in a religious way” well, you’re criticizing a Catholic point of view, and Christianity of any kind is rightfully against your ideology. Do you want us to be against their orientation in the same way a scientist would be? In any case, think about this: Why is it that science “progressed” and removed their orientations off mental illness only after the twentieth century sexual liberation and not the other way around? Science is objective, yes, but it’s interpretation can be modified to suit a narrative, and if the narrative comes before the science does, then we should rightfully question it. Scientifically I can only state their higher risks of sexual diseases which are higher to those of sex workers, that they are often not born that way but molested into it, and that they have higher risks of suicide than heterosexuals having a correlation with depression that is not in any way explained by society welcoming them or not. In a moral way we can obviously state that promiscuity is wrong and that to separate the procreation off sex can only bring a disgusting hedonistic lifestyle upon you, as well that real partner love cannot be felt in the way that they live, since man and woman are complementary in a special way, and without these unitive and procreation parts of sex, the act becomes nothing more than something devious, worthy for animals but not for man.
@nomnombr2 жыл бұрын
The effect can be but often is not physical, it is a mental conditioning to bastardize sex, which is exactly what sodomy (homosexual relationships and fornication in general) does to the mind and spirit. It directly interjects the unitive a procreative nature of sex and banalizes it to mean just pleasure as an end in of itself. If you want to talk about human nature, I'm up to it! I just don't think science has anything to do in human relationships, nature, interactions, their meanings; it is the wrong tool to tackle these subjects
@alejandrovallejo43302 жыл бұрын
@@danielc1136 ok your “well you’re criticizing a catholic point of view” is like saying that Muslim extremist are right in killing people because that’s their religious point of view, it doesn’t hold up. Why has science progressed and remove their sexuality from mental illness? Because they realized it wasn’t a mental illness, it’s not something they decided arbitrarily, they did studies and the studies support that gay people are just as perfectly healthy mentally and otherwise to your average straight people. “It’s interpretation can be modified to suit that narrative” Oh an religion can’t? Because no one in history has ever changed the interpretation of the Bible or any religious text right? Scientifically that’s incorrect. Yes they are at higher risk than your average person, but not because they are homosexual. Sexual deseases don’t depend on your sexual orientation so it has nothing to do with that, meaning the higher risk comes from another factors like the lack of sex education and using condoms less because they don’t have to worry about pregnancies. I agree that the higher depression rate doesn’t have to do with wether society will accept them or not, because almost everyone accepts them these days, but it does have to do with them not being able to live as themselves from the start and faking being heterosexual while they figure themselves out, specially in religious communities. In an ethical way, promiscuity is not wrong as long as you don’t cheat on your partner ant take precautions against infections and infections others and take responsibility for the possible consecuentes. It’s not my preferred choice to live by, but there is nothing wrong with ebony promiscuos. Not to mention this has nothing to do with homosexual people, since again, sexual appetite and responsibility don’t depend on sexual orientation. Love is also something not dependent on sex, sexual orientation or gender, anyone can feel the same amount of love regardless of who they are or who their partner is. If you don’t think so then that’s a horrible way of thinking but that’s your opinion, because I bet you don’t even have an empirical proof about them feeling less love. And yes biologically the consecuente of sex is sometimes procreation, but they aren’t synonyms and they can be separated. Even if you try to have children there are times women won’t get pregnant, even if they are fertile and have no reproductive defects, so it’s not like they are the same thing and sex always lead to procreation. And actually most animals don’t have sex for pleasure so it’s more animalistic to have sex just for the purpose of reproduction and is more worthy of humans to have it for pleasure.

7:57 Good, I'm glad Father Mike said this (and great job Matt) - I have my own experience with this. I remember the beginning of the homosexual thoughts following various abuse by various people - some sexual, some physical, and some that warped my relationship with male authority. I remember the guilt from the same authorities based on Christian beliefs. I remember the fear-based focus and self-testing that brought these new impulses to the fore and pushed my more fundamentally innate heterosexual instincts out of focus a bit. All of this before the age at which such sexual elements of my identity were due to emerge without undue influence. Now eventually I grew up and first stopped judging gay people when I met them and realised they were "good" decent humans but then stopped believing in God for other reasons. It became a no-brainer to support gay rights but I also explored the possibility that I myself was bisexual and had been messed up because of puritanical Christian beliefs. It became obvious that I lacked what gay men self-described as an innate lack of attraction to women and an equivalent positive attraction to other men. I did have an attraction to gay sex but it was more akin to a fetish of some kind. It had nothing to do with my truest and most loving self and everything to do with more superficial psychological artifacts developed based on early abuses. I didn't find men attractive, or the idea of a relationship with a man attractive and I kept finding that I sought out sex just to explore and find answers only to find that the one obvious experimental result I kept ignoring was that I wasn't really enjoying any of it. It was a fetish and not akin to my heterosexual drives. So I stopped. I happened to open up to a cousin of mine who pushed for an answer and I admitted my less-than-healthy sex life. That made it real and not just in my head and within a week or two I had ended all activity. It wasn't long after that my renewing relationship with God turned back into Christianity (to my surprise and sort of against my social comfort zone) and a subsequent process of sanctification really rid me of all confusion and pervertion from my truest and most loving design on that level along with others. That's a much longer and more interesting story that I won't go into here. However, where does this leave me with regard to those who always identified as gay in a more certain way than I ever was? As you point out, they consider homosexuality to be their truest and most loving design. Are they all just mistaken because few people have as long memories of being fully aware as I have (I suspect trauma does that to people - I know a few people with such memories of being aware as toddlers but most seem not to) and are they mistaken about what they consider innate? I'm sure some are like me but I can't imagine all are. Either way, I cannot claim to know because only God who IS truth and love and who did design them would know. So I have come to a sort of compromise on the issue but I'm not saying I'm satisfied, just that here is where I am. Gay pride and all civil rights are all about being our truest and most loving selves in their purest form. This is also what sanctification by God literally is. So accepting what I don't know, I feel like I can safely encourage anyone to engage in a relationship with God and tell them that IF being gay really is their truest and most loving design by God then great, and if it isn't then great too. I suspect it is not because the Bible has been shown to me to be God's word beyond any doubt by God Himself. I also know it is clearly not the OG purpose of our sexual drives although that isn't that convincing an angle. If not for the Bible I would happily make my own choices and leave others to theirs and not worry about them but I do worry even though it isn't my problem as such. But I do see the expression I recognise as soul-strain in the eyes of many gay people so I pray that whatever is the case in reality, that they find God through Christ and figure it out between them. Unless a person is a Christian, it's one step removed from my relationship with them. Until they are, we can all agree that true love is the aim even if we have different perspectives on that and they may not yet know truth/love is the conscious, living Creator God who has a far better viewpoint than they can have even on their own selves.

@Grokford2 жыл бұрын
Well this is a mess, that draws almost everything from Christian folk tradition instead of the Bible. The fact that people are born with sin does not mean that every state in which we are born must be changed. Arguing that a Black woman must straighten her hair is enforcing an arbitrary standard. Equally so, saying that Queer people have to change their Queerness to meet some arbitrary standard is not justified or biblical. … Identity is a complicated phenomenon. The reason that Queer people are Queer people, as opposed to people who happen to be gay, trans, gender non-conforming, whatever, is not internal pressure; it’s external. Queer people share similar experiences to Non-Queer people. Crushes, first loves and loneliness are not unique to the Queer experience. But many of the hallmarks of Queer experience are things created for Queer people by the rest of society: fear, rejection, abandonment, violence, paranoia, shame, confusion. You can tell that these are arbitrary measures by the counter examples. The Queer experience is changing, instead of people realizing their sexuality in late life people are realizing in their twenties, or earlier. There are even people who never have to come out because they’ve never been scared or aware of the prejudice against them. But even though the world is changing the threat that surrounds Queer people continually reinforces the needs for a strong community. I once had some men try to kill me with their car just because I was on a busy street Near a gay club. So this self-righteous jostling about “why are you turning it into an identity” is ignorant at best and cruel at worse. Queer people aren’t perfect but if all else fails they can usually count on one another. … I do appreciate that there is a good counter argument presented by the host but agreeing with it and then ignoring it is not an adequate response. You can not psychologize people’s experiences, reducing their lives to convenient psychological tricks is not a valid form of argumentation. Obsessing over sex is not the preoccupation of Queer people, it is primarily an outside concern. If you want to argue for the validity of a Queer romantic relationship as separate from sexual relationships you can do that, but the distinction is arbitrary. … God may treat us as individuals but the Church certainly doesn’t much of the time. This is especially true of Queer people. As I’ve said already, we’re talking about fear, violence, rejection and hatred. So I find this idea that Queer people are the ones turning their relationships with the church into a group conversation to be trite if not completely dishonest.

truth If you are wondering about the question of whether your sexuality is a sin or not, I welcome you to consider the following thoughts for clarification. This is the true choice. Peace

@victorolivero89592 жыл бұрын
@@tonistaak actually yes, and if you are talking about a "gay gene", that doesn't exist, just as a "straight gene" also doesn't exist. Sexuality is determined by millions of sexual genes working at the same time, this is why sexuality is a spectrum and bisexuals exist. There are straight people, bisexual people with preferences to the opposite gender, bisexuals without preferences, bisexuals with preferences to the same gender, and gay people. You can look up the studies online. And this is without talking about the observed homosexuality in nature (animal kingdom), which is fairly common too. I assume that you would agree animals can't "turn gay" they are born like that.
@tonistaak2 жыл бұрын
@@victorolivero8959 we can't talk about animals because that's appeal to nature. It's not necessary that what happens in nature has to happen in humans or vice versa. @victorolivero89592 жыл бұрын
@@tonistaak you are right about the appeal to nature, but at the same time, if we see a repited behaviour in animals that also accours in humans is normal to make te correlation considering we are also animals, even more if other animals from the same genetic history also have homosexual individuals, such as apes. And I think you are missunderstanding the purpose of these studies you talk about. They are not looking for genetic similarities so they can lable homosexuality "natural, or genetic" if they found the so called "gay gene" homosexuality could be compared to down syndrome or other genetic disabilities or anomalies. This is not the case. If you are trying to say that homosexuality needs to be genetically consistent throughout individuals so it can be genetic, you are largely mistaken. The best example I can give you is straight people. There's no genetic consistency in your sexuality, you can't tell someone's sexuality by looking at their genome, whether they are straight or not, and being gay works the same way. Sexuality is very complex, so much that it can manifest differently in every individual. Two straight people could have no genetic correlation sexually, and they are both still straight. There's also the argument that sexuality could be epigenetic. But in any case, is not logical to expect genetic consistency in homosexual people to conclude is innate, when not even straight people have that. Would you say being straight is a choice then?
@tonistaak2 жыл бұрын

This is seen in hundreds of species all over the world and animal kingdom, such as dolphins and penguins. If god is out there, this is his reason, think of the MILLIONS of abandoned children in the world, God knows they need a family, and we can give that, and are actually more likely too as we can’t biologically have children as an alternative. Everything God would do is for a reason, including homosexuality. If you condemn us, you condemn the work and choice of God.
