I believe this 100 percent However my question would be that The afterlife is eternal but there is a future and temporary holding place how does that sync with eternity? seems like time would still exist in this eternal world somehow

Temporary holding place(currently its hell/hades) will be cast into the lake of fire on the day of Judgment throne of God. However, lake of fire is a final place that exist forever and ever/eternity according to Revelation 20 :10, 14_15, 21:8. The same applies to Paradise, its a holding place temporarily waiting for final Judgment, but these saints are already qualified (names were already written in the book of the Lamb's Life) to be with God forever and ever /eternity according to Revelation 21:1_27.. The thing that confuses me is, do the ppl in current hell have a chance to go to heaven during the final judgement or will they go to a place worse than where they are now? But the way you compared current hell to jail, it seems they will go to a worse place because prison is worse than a person in county jail waiting sentencing

Revelation 20:14 suggests that if you were in Hades you'll be thrown into the lake, Judgment Day seems to just be a formal sentencing for your sins that you didn't repent of while alive
