My skin improved greatly when I started including plain Greek yogurt into my diet, regularly. I also started taking Dr Formulated Probiotics for mood. The combination of gut and mental health has undoubtedly supported healthier, less inflamed, skin for me! Although, it did take at least 6 months for me to really start to see sustainable change. To add: I would not recommend drinking Kombucha for a primary source of probiotics. These drinks tend to be high in sugar-- which for me, has caused inflammation in the past.

I recently started taking a fiber supplement on the advice of my doctor to improve digestion. One unexpected side effect has been that my skin is actually consistently clear for the first time in my adult life. Turns out fiber is considered a "prebiotic" (not probiotic) because it apparently nourishes and supports the "good bacteria" that may be already present in your gut. Fascinating. To be fair I'm still inclined to think that most supplements are pure unfiltered marketing....

@vetsai81992 жыл бұрын
I started taking probiotics because I suffered for more than two decades with ulcerative colitis-making it difficult to maintain my body weight as well as keeping me in a state of anemia. I also suffered from eczema during this time. The first clue I received that indicated an improvement in my health was a healing of the bleeding eczema behind my ears (which had been quite painful). It actually took a couple of weeks, taking probiotics with each meal, before the bleeding of my colon lessened-and never resumed!! One of the individual probiotics I always look for in a probiotic product is “rhamnosus” (as well as acidophilus and the better known varieties). Rhamnosus is good for the immune system, and is NOT included in most probiotic preparations, so you really have to read labels to make sure you are looking at a product that contains a wide variety of strains!

My skin greatly benefitted from SK-II Treatment Essence - more of a pre-biotic, as it is a ferment, but anyways: great results! Much less acne, the pimples are far less deep, take a much shorter time to surface, and in turn, now I have really nice skin, after 15 years of acne :) I think Missha also has some fermented toner that is cheaper (not actually cheap). Have also tried the SK-II Clear Lotion, and don't recommend it - the effect is not the same as with the essence.

I've had bad acne since puberty (I'm 35 now) and a few years ago one dermatologist suggested dairy as a cause. I try to lower my dairy intake to a minimum especially since the pandemic began, because wearing a mask makes my breakouts 10 times worse. Recently I went through a 4 week elimination diet to fix my intestinal flora and it was the first time in my adult life that I had clear skin without antibiotics. The diet called for probiotic supplements and probiotic rich foods like sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir and kombucha, which I ate keeping some days in between each. 2 days after having yogurt my face was covered in cysts. I added the kefir later because why not, and it got worse. Sauerkraut and kombucha didn't have a visible effect. I was hoping that this reset would help my acne, but sadly it didn't.

Thank you for covering this. I just quit taking Hum skin probiotic formula a couple of days ago because I think it was making me worse. Most probiotics are inflammatory for anyone with *histamine intolerance,* like I have, because so many strains produce histamine. I can only take "low histamine" probiotics, but I have no idea what, if anything, they're doing for me. I don't see any change in my skin or histamine condition for taking them. I know I have gut disbiosis; I took 2 Thorne gut tests in the last 1.5 years that say so, anyway. After fasting (IF and prolonged) and eating ridiculously clean for a year my test came back WORSE. I'm discouraged at best. Oh, and I thought any probiotic blend that said it was to reduce inflammation in the skin wouldn't produce histamine but I think I was wrong based on the result.

Ofc I don’t know if this term came from a marketing department etc but I decided to support the product just because I keep hearing dermatologist refer to acne as a disease nowadays, so I’m always like, if it’s a disease than why isn’t my immune system taking care of it? Lol. Anyways it also has niacinamide in it which I love… I hope companies and labs keep investing in pre/pro/postbiotics, it does seem promising.

Not sure if you'll see this, but quick question: Why do most dermatologists only talk about/offer ANTI biotics, rather than PRO biotics? I used to take some antibiotics, which DID help in the moment, but would only result in acne coming back worse after stopping them, not to mention causing other symptoms. Before I was scheduled to start Acutane, I saw on a forum that probiotics are a more favorable option. Which makes sense, I mean why erase our natural biology in the process of trying to erase bad bacteria, when we can enhance and support our natural biology and work with it to battle the bad bacteria?

I got itchy red on my hand, day 2 more itchy, day 3 start flare up on my face, my forehand,neck,arm and thighs and feel so hot n itchy. And I found 1 KZbin that said, if you flare up after taking probiotics, thats a detox, and you have to take more capsule. So day 4, I still taking only 1 capsule, n my flare up getting worst more than my first flare up. I couldn't sleep. My body itchy like crazy, my eyes are swollen. I thought it was ths sugar, so I switched to Yakult Light. Still got new painful cystic acne. Then I stopped taking Yakult and the pimples started to dry, less inflamed, and some of them even cleared up in like 3 days. I thought it was the milk. THEN, I ate kimchi. My skin is a mess again!

lol even with yakult light that is still plenty of sugar in it. That isn't healthy at all.

My nephew took part in a study of topical probiotics for his acne. He found it resolved his issues in about six months.

Hi, could you do a video about topical steroid withdrawal please? It’s a popular topic on TikTok at the moment and I feel like there’s a lot of misinformation circulating that needs to be debunked

Hi there and thanks I'm researching probiotic skincare and internal care after having MRSA seemingly contaminating our water supply here in Irving, Texas I'd do just about anything to prevent MRSA from ever holding every space in my body again, so it looks like live culture skin products may be a very good idea. Know anything about nitrosomas eutropha?

Hey doc! I promised you a great 🕯to show my appreciation for making a dedicated video on ichthyosis vulgaris when so many others I asked didn’t. I would love your honest opinion on the scent, as it’s one of my favorites but the company has so many great ones. If it’s not your jam I’ll send you some votives to sample so you can pick one that’s more your taste and I can get it to you. Thanks for all you do!!

Since I was young, pickled food always made me break out in eczema. A couple years ago, I ate a generous amount of pickled food because it tasted good, and developed fungal acne that hasn’t gone away since :(

Dang. I'm screwed. I just revived my eczema after eating danmuji (pickled radish) and kimchi too...... not to mention the painful cystic acne I got from Yakult...........

I eat some probiotic foods and they don't do anything wonderful per se, but they are easier to digest than highly processed foods or fast food. They tend to be a part of many traditional diets. Pickles are easier to eat because they are fermented, cucumbers are pretty hard.

Not an expert but what I have learned is there are 3 types. 1 the natural like in yogurt and foods. 2. then the over the counter types 3. Purposefully cultured from a known good healthy gut but those cost more.

Belgium pharmacy company YUN invented a probiotic for skin by inventing micro capsules where the little bacteria are in a winter sleep and when aplied on skin the micro capsules brake open. Can you do a review on that?

India has a custom of eating curd made by adding culture to milk at a warm temperature and left overnight or less depending on weather. I dont know if that qualifies or not as probiotic but curd helps big time with so many issues including but not limited to yeast infections. It is typically consumed in the day and strictly forbidden at night .

Hi Dr. Dray, My Urologist recommended I take a probiotic a couple months ago for I’m prone to getting chronic uti’s. The pharmacist at Walmart recommended a few different ones and I settled on a gummy kind/brand. Tastes good but I can’t tell if I feel any different but I’m going to continue taking them.
@matthewirwin11122 жыл бұрын
Maybe try using non-gummy brands. Anecdotally, i've heard they are not the best for absorption.
@ohio_nights2 жыл бұрын
Gummy vitamins nearly always contain sugar, which is exactly what you don’t want if you are UTI prone. I would consider another brand that is a normal capsule.

I just started making my own sauerkraut and fermented veggies. I’ve been consuming them daily for about a week, and I stopped breaking out. I just started my period also, so about a week prior is when I started eating my probiotic rich foods. I’m blown away actually. I breakout daily, always on my chin area. I’m going to continue eating it daily and see how my skin behaves after my cycle as well. Note, I have not been eating the cleanest outside of my sauerkraut. I’ve still consumed some candy (highly inflammatory for me usually), cheese, and some processed foods. I highly recommend you make your own fermented foods rather than buy a supplement . It’s easy and WAY cheaper! I’ll try and remember to provide an update on my comment, about 3 weeks later so I can say for sure this isn’t some coincidence.

I tend to think at this point that probiotics is a worthy investment if you have gut issues. I wonder if the acute pancreatitis issue is just an issue because the body can't regulate bacteria as well as it should? That seems like it is a very critical time for the body and I'm not entirely surprised it was a negative result.

I've had rosacea for years now. I used Mirvaso for a few years until I had to switch insurance and they unfortunately didn't cover Mirvaso. So my dermatologist prescribed me Brimonidine 0.2% eye drops. Been working great for my rosacea cheeks and so much CHEAPER! Do you ever prescribe that for your patients with rosacea? Are there any long term effects with using Brimonidine on the skin??
