We asked Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist - Dr Sohom Das, just how accurate the portrayal of mental illness is, in the world of cinema. He provides his professional analysis of Joaquin Phoenix's role in Joker, Barry Keoghan's psychotic character in Saltburn, along with James McAvoy in Split. He also shares his thoughts on if or not billionaire CEO's actually have psychopathic tendencies.
Check out Dr Das's own KZbin Channel: / @apsychforsoreminds

I read many psychologists stated Chigur in No Country For Old Men was a great example of a psychopath

Clinically confirmed ASPD and NPD here. Some movies get it right more than others. A Clockwork Orange is an excellent example of ASPD for those who want a realistic enough reference in cinema. I'm often told by people that I'm the nicest guy they ever met and that I'm super interesting. I get on great with anyone but I simply cant keep friends as my brain immediately goes "this person is useless now, what's the point" and just ditch them. I aim to be as pro-social as possible. It's nice to see people discussing psychopathy without attaching stigma for a change. Well done lads👍

Maybe invite two of your favourite most interesting guests so far and invite them both on at the same time to see how they converse. Could be a cool collab dynamic

Would love to see him questioned on some of the controversies around him.. The pick up artist account connections.. Don't think he'll ever allow those questions be asked in an interview though

Hi, person with a psychopathic disorder here! I just wanted to share my experience because I thought some might be interested. I was a bit more of a stereotypical psychopath when I was young, but as an adult I’ve matured and learned to be a productive member of society. I showed all the warning signs when I was a child. I was reserved, had no interest in other people, and hurt/abused animals. (I only abused animals as a child, and I would never do or condone such behaviours today) I also remember my mother literally begging me to just try to make a friend, and when she asked me if there was anyone at all I liked or was interested in I simply said “no”. I tend to get along with other people, appearing friendly and helpful, but there’s not much beneath that. I don’t have any friends. I love people. I love watching them be happy and interact with eachother… from a distance. It’s a painfully lonely existence. But I have a burning hatred of other people that’s hard to describe. I hate their smell, their body fluids, their body heat, their sounds, their hair, their voices. It’s instinctive. But I wish only good things for the people around me, I want them all to be happy, safe, and warm.

this comment is absolutely fascinating, and I can definitely see how lonely that would be. do you care that you're lonely and wish you weren't like this? I can't understand the cognitive dissonance between knowing you hate people instinctively and also wishing them well, do you understand it yourself? do you find yourself getting upset that you don't want to connect? wishing you all the luck in the world my friend! (not that you care, aha).

How I would describe it, is that it's all about control and power, it is the loss of that control can leads to violence. It's why CEO's are more likely than than the general population to be psychopath's but are not voilent, because they have power.

It's not used anymore in anyway in clinical practice. It's a colloquial term that's stayed the test of time to just refer to "made psychopathy". So it's largely just gets in the way lmao But all psychopathy is thought to be a combo.
