Ah yes, the magic word with putters - comfort. In my experience comfort, both physical and mental, is critical. I have never seen someone sink lots of putts, frequently, when they've been uncomfortable. My putter is 32", I'm 172cm tall and wrists are about 85cm from the floor and my Ping rep actually laughed when I tried the standard 35". So yes, Andrew, put me in the column in favour of shorter putters AND Happy New Year!!!

Hi Ken, I think 32" maybe the new 34"!! All the best Andrew.

I was fitted for a PING Anser 33 1/2" putter in 2019 and was surprised how well I can put it with it especially after using a 35 inch putter most of my life. I agree with you! A shorter putter is easier to manage and certainly allows one to increase the number of putts made in a round of golf. I will surely never go back to a longer putter.

I just went to a 33.5 inch putter as well. Do you mind me asking how tall you are? Just curious? Also found I putt WAY better with it

@@worldwide1873 I am 5' 9" with normal length arms. Initially the shorter putter seemed too short but I found the added short to mid range accuracy was so beneficial I stuck with it. BTW, I use the same reverse overlap grip I had used with the 35 putter.

Went from standard to 33 1/4 inch with a Ping Heppler Ketsch (adjustable shaft) and absolutely make more putts. Did my fitting using the Seemore fitting system and my long arms dictated a shorter putter. Much more fundamentally sound.

I'm 6"1"" and just cut down my putter from 35"" to 33 "" and that improved my putting significantly . The weight does feel different but it feels better

I'm also 6'1", and recently bought a used 33" putter. I've had the same results. I've always used 35's and gripped down, but this one seems more natural.

I use a Ping 34" putter. My putter is adjustable. I found if I practice a lot at 32" my back starts to hurt. So I have been setting it at 34". Thanks for another great video.

I went from 34 to 36 inch and it’s transformed my putting

I am about 5’9”. I use a 28 inch gives me better rocking of shoulders and definitely eyes over the ball. I also use a putter grip that I wrapped in tennis gauze type tape it seems to keep me from gripping putter too tightly for some reason

I have been having lots of back pain from using a 34” putter I only realised this the other day . I’m not exactly the tallest golfer around either at 6ft ……Today I have gone the other direction and got my pro to add a 2” extension to hopefully help with the pain from leaning over the club a bit. I guess no matter what the theory is there will always be exceptions as you say . Be nice to get the 2.3 putt average down either way .

Happy new year, Andrew. I agree with you that a person's need for a putter will always be different. The human body has the ability to adjust but as the body changes over time, the sizing that is optimal may change. Adjustable putters remain a good idea. I try not to get into the science of putters and golf clubs because I play recreational golf but I am happy to experiment with any putter that takes my fancy from eBay.

Sad I know, but I own 8 putters. 33,34 and 35 inch. During lockdown last year did a lot of in house putting. Came to the conclusion that for me 35 was the best length.

Happy New Year Andrew. Totally agree shorter putter works best. Currently using Never Compromise Gamber blade 34 inches, had since 2009 and unlikely to change it.

First "proper" putter was a Ping Darby at 35"...putted OK with it until I tried a 34"...big difference. Tried 33" but felt wrong so used a 34" for the last 20 years. Average about 31/33 putts and have done for some years now.

I see way too many players using a putter that's too long and then resorting to what I would call a Leo Diegel (look him up) putting stroke. I'm exaggerating a bit but point is the arms need to hang. My local golf store in Canada has a ton of 35" putters on their rack that nobody is buying. Good topic.

I just went to a shorter putter and found my eyes went over the ball better and body reacts better. I just took it out for its first round (only have had 2 days to hit some putts inside with it) and was lethal from everywhere on the green. If I didn’t make it it’s because my dumbass miss read the putt. Need to pay more attention to some of the angles and slopes etc.. when walking up to the green 😆. Love it!! I do get a little sore in the back if I sit there practicing a while so need to focus on if my posture could improve. But love the shorty will be gaming it all year no doubt.

Cutting the shafts doesn't change anything about the putter..rubish...you will adjust to it ..Do you think they put on different putter heads according to the length of the shaft??? Of course not...

working as a caddy the last couple of summers i see many terrible putter set-ups. older guys especially seem to have long putters that are toe up and 4/6" outside their eyeline. They cant hit a 2ft straight putt.

Very true, putting is the easiest thing to get better at. Most golfers seem to ignore it.

How was 35 inch standard putter determined..it was not for science reason, it was because it fitted better into a cart bag...
