I believe 3-4 years of overseas studies/work will make a person more independent than 2.5 years in army training. Before went for overseas studies, my mom did everything for me. While overseas, I had to learn to cook my own meals, cut short my long pants, sew back missing shirt buttons, washing my own clothes etc. So, after marriage and set up a home, people like us are more likely to share in doing household work with our wives and help out in looking after our babies (including feeding the baby while wife was asleep, bathing baby, changing diapers etc particularly during the 1st few months after baby was born).

One of the reasons why Singaporean guys like to keep fit is because of the IPPT physical fitness test they have to take every year to ensure the upkeeping of fitness as National Servicemen. And as the youtuber has mentioned, failure in IPPT tests will result in remedial physical training sessions. There is actually another good reason to keep fit. That is, there are monetary incentives for doing well in IPPT tests: Gold $500 Silver $300 Pass With Incentive $200 I've seen some Singaporean guys who are working or residing outside of Singapore deliberately timed their yearly returns to Singapore to coincide with their IPPT tests so as to get the $500 award (they are pretty fit in the first place).

I do think it’s because of army! My brother became more mature and sensible. He used to be irresponsible and selfish before. But now he looks out for us and became more disciplined. I like singaporean guys because they are very filial and family oriented. Some may not like “mama’s boy” but I think it’s actually a good trait to respect your parents.

I once had a chat with a Singaporean guy friend and somehow I think, they (or maybe just my frd) treat the girls according to what they imagined. For example my friend told me he would want to buy the girls a drink when he was overseas however in Singapore, he won't have the thought as he feels that Singaporean girls have the mentality " I can buy the drink myself" . 说起IPPT的RT，我三十多年前reservist时，听过这样的事：一些有老婆的后备老兵会在IPPT时故意＂肥佬＂，然后被安排在另一段时间去几天RT，在RT开始前，他们会先再IPPT多一次，只要他们顺利过关，兵营就当场取消他們的RT。这些原本就可以及格的人过了关，出了兵营，马上换下军服，拿了预先藏好的护照，瞒着老婆直接往机场飞泰国去玩几天，不然就是去丹那美拉渡轮码头坐船去巴淡岛，再换船到公海的赌船杀个天昏地暗。而可怜的老婆们还以为这些正在享乐的家伙还在兵营里受苦呢。
