Im glad you've confirmed my arguments with many audiophiles / class D amps are neither warm nor without distinguishable distortion. At $800.00, I would never consider this, and am a firm class A/B advocate. Leave class D amps where they belong - in subwoofers.

Ok, @4:33 this chart. We need to talk about this. I commend the effort to try a more scientific data centric approach. That said, this chart clearly shows that both amps perform nearly identical. There is a a slightly elevated treble and bass response with the Eversolo. But we are talking a fraction of a percent at a fairly high volume. Completely indiscernible to human hearing. I’m guessing the volume was slightly higher on the Eversolo during the tests. Due to room acoustics, the treble and bass have slightly more gain than the midrange frequencies. Given the info available here, I’m pretty certain both amps perform nearly identically with a ruler flat frequency response. Leaving the choice between the two down to budget and aesthetic preference. PS: @6:13 Is this Carl or Karl? It makes a difference! Carl owns all of Burt Bacharach’s recordings, not only on CD and Vinyl but reel to reel as well. While Karl often leaps in response to the ringing of a kind middle aged tourist’s biological alarm clock. All while listening to the hypnotic rhythms of Todd Terje. PSS: @9:26 Why didn’t you just say that in the beginning and why didn’t I just watch the entire video before commenting 🙄

@@richardbixler Thanks for watching, but I would encourage you to watch again and more closely because your critiques are not at all in line with what I said or showed. For example, the graph you referenced at 04:33 does NOT show bass. It is a nearfield measurement that is very clearly labeled and focuses solely on the treble region of the amps' performance, as shown in the X and Y axis. In this case, we're focusing on roughly 2kHz and above (20kHz) because this is where the F2 deviates from our control amp (and all amps in this test). Additionally, the differences in the treble response are as high as 1-2dB, which may or may not be audible, but it could result in a sensation of sharper or brighter highs to some, which is something I point out. Next, the room's acoustics, or differences in volume, etc, do not play a role here because both measurements were taken seconds apart, using the same gear, at the same volumes on the same speakers. In other words, I took into account the variables you fear are resulting in a there being a difference and eliminated them, something I note on the graph itself. I also say several times in this video that there isn't much difference in the sound of many of these amps, especially when listening at more moderate volumes and even more so in the near field, so you're not really catching me off guard or unprepared to respond.

I have bought two of these amps with the eversolo dmp a6. In the beginning I thought the highs were too harsh to my liking too. Strangely enough after a couple of weeks everything became smoother and all together very nice. I am not a believer of burning in anything and my speakers are horns! (vintage Technics SB 100s). I listen in the low 80’s. So I have to say: yes in the beginning I think your analasys of the eversolo F2 sound is correct and I had to equalise it to remove the harshness. But to my amazement they do smooth out with a couple of weeks and I no longer have to use the A6’s equalizer. I have absolutely no regrets that I traded my Musical Fidelty NuVista 300 for these amps.

I bought the amp because it was backed up by the engineering and service of three companies. At the price it is one of the least expensive mono capable amps with internal power supply. This will be much more serviceable than Fosi in the US. It is used to power towers to relieve the load on a denon 6000 series receiver. I think many of those Fosi videos were part of a coordinated rollout aided by Fosi themselves, so just keep that in mind. I can't speak to Fosi's performance (yet) as we have not hooked ours up yet, but from what I saw and/or read, not too many discussing their comparative sound quality apart from "Hey, look, they can play loud." Loudness was never what this was about. Distortion when playing back real-world content and living up to manufacturers' claims is a different story.

But what do these power figures mean? In the 1970s the reputable manufacturers would specify their power figures in watts RMS (root mean squared) at a specified distortion level. This made power output comparisons reasonably easy, although the less reputable makers would often sneak power figures in as IPP (instantaneous peak power) which could easily be three times the same output measured in RMS - and never mind the distortion. What exactly are they using as a measuring standard these days - and why do they not state it?

Good morning from central Texas! I absolutely love my Crown XLS 2502 amp. It drives my JBL's to volumes that hurt. I'm an old dude, with fried ears, so the little bit of noise/hiss coming from the speakers (when nothing is playing) is only barely noticeable when I'm within a foot or 2 of the speaker. I would think that any Class D amp, despite the apparent, or perceived, audiophile shortcomings, should be considered if one is wanting to build a home system on a budget. The Sonos Amp also has significant streaming features including native Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal and Qobuz, but a limit of 16bit 44.1khz. Even the Primare is not 100% silent from tweeter noise, at 20cm it is very audible. This amp costs no less than € 3200, here in the Netherlands, I'm curious whether the NAD c298 also has noise. € 2300,-
@bikeman79824 ай бұрын
I have the NAD M33. I believe the C298 has the same PuriFi modules, but tuned to a slightly lower power output. I hear zero noise with my ear right next to the tweeter or midrange. I'm noticing new details in familiar music, quite possibly due to the lower noise. This is the first amp I've owned that is completely silent. My speakers are reasonably efficient at 91dB.

I've been looking into Class D amps for a while for a suitable desktop amp and started this journey with a Fosi v3. Having very inefficient speakers at the time 83db the Fosi did a great job but werent perfect near field. The speakers were too hard to drive and once I turned the volume up there was alot of hiss. I then found the eversolo but do to the some unavourable measurements from ASR from the stark audio amp and the lack of overall reviews at the time, I decided against it. I ended up picking up a Pro-Ject Amp box DS2 and all I can say is wow. I'm using these with the same hard to drive speakers 83 db and it's a clean 100watts in 8ohm and 145 in 4ohm. I cannot turn my volume past 40% without it being too loud for desktop use. The other great thing I found out is this amp used hypex modules which usually measure fantastic. So if anyone else is in the same boat as me I think the Pro-ject is a good option. Oh another good one I saw was the Teac Ai303 which I was going to buy until I found a great deal on the pro-jects which had more power.
@KristiWright7 ай бұрын
@mavy28 I'm glad the Pro-Ject is working out for you. I really love their bookshelf speakers we reviewed. You should give them a try if you haven't already. I do have a couple of questions for you related to your thoughts on the Fosi and the Eversolo: (1) Did you give the Eversolo a listen? It sounds like maybe you didn't, ultimately writing it off after seeing "unfavorable" measurements on ASR? --which leads me to my next question-- (2) What led you to try the Fosi? Did ASR and their findings have any impact on your decision to try the Fosi amp? I'm bringing this up because it's evident that Fosi leverages ASR for its marketing and advertising. I'm interested in your perspective on this, especially considering your less-than-agreeable experience with the Fosi, in which ASR's measurements appear to have been more positive. Call me curious, but I like understanding how people's minds work and what leads them to their decisions.
@mavy287 ай бұрын
@@KristiWright Oh wow, I wasn't expecting such a thoughtful response to my ramble haha. Let me take the time to better articulate myself: 1.To clarify, I didn't have the opportunity to audition the Eversolo as it's not available in showrooms in Canada, and at the time, there were limited reviews. While I consider ASR measurements, I usually take them with a grain of salt and I think most people should. I also saw the amp in the background of your videos so I was waiting to hear your's and Andrew's opinion on the amp before I made my decision. Fortunately, I got a deal on the Pro-Ject I couldn't say no to. 2. Regarding the Fosi V3, I relied on favorable reviews from critics whose tastes align with mine. At $80 on sale, it was a steal! Although it didn't suit my system, I think it's a capable amp worth recommending to those on a budget. As for ASR it did not consider it as a factor in buying decision. I typically only look to ASR when there is no data from my typical reviewers. Thanks again for your response and recommendation! I'm excited to try the Speakerbox 5 S2, and now I just need to decide between green and yellow!" Cheers!

Through out my years in audio I've learned you don't need to spend $1000's on an amp to get good sound. We mostly listen any where from 1 watts to 15 watts.
@peterowings72337 ай бұрын
I wonder what happens to the sound when you use two of these in mono mode? I suspect a lot of these class D amps really don't live up to their claimed specs but may perform better as mono-blocks. But at that price point, you're probably better off going with a more traditional class A/B unit.

Had Eversolo A6 F2 setup since January with Focal’s vestias… Came from a relatively cheap smsl amp and, while giving a better sound, F2 has a few upsetting drawbacks 1) no volume control. That means relying on A6 which doesn’t even come with the remote 🥲 2) noisy rca. Unexpected since my previous cheaper amp didn’t have that issue. Xlr is completely fine though 3) physical input switch only. Something that also could be done remotely on a cheaper amp A bit too minimalistic for my taste, to be honest, but it does its job well enough, so no complains

When buying my current Power Amp the Store I bought it from suggested I try it in home with the option to return it, even though it wasn’t the one I was after. It turned out to be excellent with my Polk R700s, with a truly “warm” sound, quite unexpectedly. The Amp was the little reviewed Parasound ‘ZoneMaster Model 2350’, a Digital Amp. I recently bought an Audiolab 7000A and returned it as it was too forward and fatiguing by comparison. The Parasound has turned out to be a real find, consumes little Power by comparison, and doesn’t get hot, with a beautiful sound, a truly excellent Amp.

"like other class d budget amps the F2 has not solved the treble issue" -thanks for that Soon class A/B amps will be as rare as full class A. Conventional wisdom will be that class D has improved beyond the others. The graphs and data sheets will prove it to the people who don't listen

We have them but have not begun our evaluation yet. One thing is for sure, I'm definitely going to wait until the hype-train has come to a full and complete stop before deciding on whether or not to review them. I get enough crap from the TI fanboys already; I'd hate to see their reaction to me if we didn't fall into complete alignment with what they already just know to be true. Best to let things calm down before rushing to any judgment, good or bad. I have heard people say that they have heard hiss on those Crown amps that you were speaking of. Have you ever heard this? I was thinking about picking up a Crown but this scared me. Thoughts?
@andrewrobinsonreviews7 ай бұрын
Yes, Crown amps have a higher noise floor that with some speakers results in tweeter hiss. This is not a fault, it's something that is known and that would-be customers just need to be aware of. Not the end of the world, but maybe not the best amp for nearfield listening.
@averagedudesaudio7 ай бұрын

@@andrewrobinsonreviews I posit that reducing the noise floor helps even with far field listening. I'm noticing new details using my NAD M33. My previous amp had a just barely audible hiss at my listening position, but I think it might have been masking finer details. Of course, this may not be an issue for someone who prefers a less detailed and more 'organic' or 'warm' sound.

Well, $799.00 plus the need of a preamp. I don't think the average room needs 145 WPC and so for that combined price there are many options within integrated amps, like Denon, Cambridge, Yamaha, Marantz, with 50 to 80, or more, WPC, more than enough to drive most speakers in most average size rooms, even the larger ones. If I was in the market and in that price range, I would go that route, lots of very good options.
