Ange is just the right manager to bring the youth through. But the biggest challenge they will have is with the half of supporters that have lost their patience for a project. The treatment of Johnson has been nothing short of disgraceful. Need to direct the frustration at the club not the players. The real measure now is whether the squad is better, stronger than last year. So much better already. They can do better but can they win, not quite yet. The key is the missing pieces up front which Ange still believes there is a plan in place. He has been backed so far, the club have every reason to back Ange. Good to keep the pressure up on the club, just not on Ange and the players. Get behind the boys, coys.

You are totally right. I can believe those fans who wanted Conte gone, and were all excited for a rebuild, but already -- ONE YEAR IN -- and they want to win now, no excuses, sign big names! We all want big names, but like Ange said: this isn't about stretching to win top 4 this year or maybe go deeper in the Carabao cup one year, it's about building for sustained success so we're challenging EVERY year.
@SoundofGugu4 ай бұрын
we are behind Ange, but how can he is still be picking deadwood like Emerson and showing signs of the backward focused team he collected. A team that still plays the ball back to its own keeper from the edge of the oppositions 18 yard box or a corner, has serious tactical and confidence issues, I see Ange struggling with that club philosophy so much so he had almost turned Maddison into the new PEH. And the fans are digging Timo and Johnson out because their cross completion rate is appalling.
@malber20004 ай бұрын
@@SoundofGugu Until Emerson is sold, he's one of the only CB's we have on tour. That's why he's getting selected. As for the Maddison comment, I have no idea what you're talking about. Maddison has been off it since his injury and that has nothing to do with Ange. He just can't seem to pick out the same kinds of passes and is still missing confidence in his own game.

I think people are wrong to focus on who they think the best in each position is. For one, it's subjective and as such not absolute, we all have arseholes, also it is something that can change depending on who you are playing. For mine a better focus would be on the number of players in the squad who have the quality to start a game. This is what gives you the ability to manage workloads and make tactical changes for individual games. Also most importantly it this that helps bring consistency of performance to the team as it determines the number of potential combinations available while minimising any drop in performance. Without this you won't challenge for titles and cup runs become more a matter of luck, or requires a focus on one competition over the others. By my reckoning we had 15 such players at the end of last season. Potential we have 4 more with Bergvall, Gray, Solomon and possibly Spence, without considering Academy prospects and new signings. So, say we sign 2 more viable starting options, that means Ange potentially has more than 20 players to consider when selecting his starting 11. That to me is starting to sound exciting. I think it's most telling that all the players being allowed to move on, while extremely good ones, are players who only provide service off the bench or when a large number of the starting players are missing. You can support some players like this in your squad, but the improvement of the squad comes from increasing the number who can start.

@@OhSoSpurs No mate, not buying it. There could have been 21's on the tour instead. If by your logic that is why, then it also matters none if he gives the young bloods a run out with the first team in matches that mean nothing except giving the players time to hang out with each other and get to know the squad. Emerson should be nowhere near the first team, period.

Deflecting to his national team achievements sums it up. Let's be honest, any Argentine that didn't win a few Copas and a World Cup in the Messi era should be ashamed. Try instead engaging with the situation as it is: your defensive record with him stinks. Too poor a box defender to succeed in Conte's deep block. Too slow to succeed in Ange's high line. Rash, clumsy, always a moment away from conceding a free kick, penalty, or getting sent off. Can't control his emotions at the first sign of difficulty. In a midblock team, probably a back 3, could be great. But at Spurs, he's contributed to 61 and 63 goals conceded in consecutive seasons. Even 40 in 21/22 is a lot under a manager like Conte. But a few good slide tackles, and you get all excited. Enjoy him! I certainly will.

Hey Paul. Can understand the scepticism from Spurs of old as transfer flipping was a form of financial growth for the club. However since the stadium opened there has been a shift. Spurs cling onto their best players. It’s hard to think of anyone we’ve cashed in on. Unless a player has demanded to leave we’ve sweated the contracts as long as possible and even resorted to releasing players for nothing if needed.
