After being a vegetarian for some 15 years, I began experiencing excruciating leg cramps at nights. Just one, then a few months later another episode. After a year or so of these intermittent attacks, it became a weekly occurrence, sometimes twice in one week. Got so bad that I couldn't walk for days afterwards. Then I did some research and found I was lacking magnesium. Taking a supplement has not cured the problem, but does keep it at bay. If I forget to take magnesium (on holidays or whatever) I suffer the effects of cramp. We should be able to have tests done by now to see what we need exactly, there is so little actual health care from the medical establishment. Vets out perform doctors by a long shot. P.S. I am still a vegetarian, now of some 40 years, and yes I make sure I supplement with the likes of B12, D3, especially magnesium. I must just have a very high demand for such or poor absorption for whatever reason.
@n3tl4g
@n3tl4g Жыл бұрын
I believe you but that is surprising since magnesium mainly comes from plants (nuts, seeds, beans, grains). So it's the carnivore people who are most likely to need to supplement magnesium.
@haraldtheyounger5504

@@n3tl4g Not as surprized as I was when I began using magnesium. I too couldn't believe that I'd be in short supply. The only form that works for me though is Ionic, I've tried all the different types; malate, citrate, etc. I also experimented with potassium, but that didn't stop the cramps, definitely a magnesium issue.
@Suzanne-vegan
@Suzanne-vegan 5 ай бұрын
Vegetarian. There are many factors to look at with leg cramping other than just magnesium. My first guess would be chronic dehydration before the magnesium issue. Personally at the moment I'm drinking a 33 oz before each meal 3x's a day. My body prefers a gallon a day. If you ever feel a dry thirsty mouth at all you need to up the water. Absorption: blessed herbs colon cleansing is great to do. You will absorb nutrients way better after this. Consider doing vegan: it's way better. I tried vegetarian its ok in comparison but is way better overall. There are vegan cheeses and plenty of milk replacements.
@haraldtheyounger5504
@haraldtheyounger5504 5 ай бұрын
@@Suzanne-vegan That not good advice, why would anyone drink that much before a meal? All you're doing is weakening the digestive acids. Do you ever see animals drink like crazy, nope, not ever. I do drink enough during the day, always have. The issue is definitely magnesium with me. As for all the fake vegan junk food, no thanks.

What about sunscreen and Vit D exposure? I've heard that since sunscreen doesn't 100% skip the sunrays that even with sunscreen you get adequate Vit D (plus supplementing for optimal levels is still good, but let's remove that from the equation). Also for aging and skin cancer, please tell us that it doesn't matter how dark your skin tone is, you should still apply sunscreen (if you can afford it, same with supplementing Vit D instead of sun).
@ddpwe5269
@ddpwe5269 Жыл бұрын
For those who are near the equator or work outside all day long in the sun during the summer, would be fine. Otherwise, everyone else should be supplementing. Especially, those who are further away from the equator or don't work outside in the sun all summer. We can accumulate and hold on to insane amounts of Vit D. So much so, that if you do work out in the sun all summer, even with sunblock, you'll have more than enough to last through fall/winter/spring, even if you were never to get anymore sun exposure. However, the vast majority do not work outside all day long, so always best just to supplement. If you do want to get enough Vit D, with sunblock, I believe it's just 2x the time you'd need without sunblock, so 30-40min instead of 15-25min. Considering it's so cheap, why not have proper levels? Same with B12 Yes, no matter the skin tone you have, you should be using sunblock. If you do have darker skin, it just means you end up taking more damage to your cells before you actually burn. Where someone with a lighter skin will burn quicker, giving more of a warning to us. Keep in mind, they'll always recommend sun exposure, as it provides much more to our bodies than just the Vit D.

So from what I read, taking large doses of vitamin D, could make you deficient in magnesium? Try telling that to someone suffering from a terminal disease or involved in decades old war torn conflict. Even if what many people are going through does eventually get better, it’s still bad advice. It doesn’t help us. We already know it will get better but it doesn’t help anyone in the present.

We have a problem in New Zealand over over-regulation. Our government has recently made it illegal to sell any supplements that supply more than the daily recommended dosage. This means that the maximum dosage of B12 we can buy is 50 mcg. I am 70 and In previous videos you have recommended 1000 mcg for people my age. I have been taking a 1000mcg table for the past five years but can no longer get them. Maybe I'll have to get them on Amazon. Hello, D3 recommendations have risen from around 1000 iu daily to 2000 in the last decade. It depends on your age, body mass, activity... But, on average, getting 2000 seems to be the sweet spot. Vitamin K2 and K1 are either absorbed by eating vegetables and other plants or absorbed in the collon after our microflora ferments plant matter, so it is very hard not getting enough of them both if you eat some plants

Doctor Gregor versus the carnivore MD in a debate.....
@gallectee6032
@gallectee6032 Жыл бұрын
Why? Low carb already shows increased CVD rates as predicted. Red meat and processed meats were also shown to be carcinogenic, and to increase CVD rates. Excluding everything and feeling better in the short term has nothing to do with carnivore, but with the personal issues of some foods or gut issues (that only some people have). Carnivore diet is going to produce negative long term results (particularly heart disease and cancer, and some will also develop insulin resistance over the long term and will no longer be able to consume carbohydrates without insulin shots. Because such a high fat diet kills beta cells).

@@gallectee6032 There are no experiments that prove meat causes any disease in humans. Also, there is no such thing as "insulin resistance".

Please stop walking while talking. Walking during your videos is a good example for watchers, but it makes your vocal delivery choppy and sometimes harder to understand.

How can a plant based diet POSSIBLY be healthy for a human being if B12 is missing? This does not make sense

I'm a vegan, for about 4 years and I don't take supplements. I eat shitake mushrooms everyday, just 2. I eat seaweed of some type almost everyday. My B12 is in the middle of the normal range. They also fortify alternative milks, I put a little in my organic coffee everyday.

@@judyundt9114 you probably don't have a stressful life and don't use up so many B vitamins. But you MUST take supplements because you WILL become deficient. It will creep up on you in subtle ways that you may miss. Better to just start getting the supplements in now. It can take up to ten years for levels to deplete in some people. B12 Deficiency is a nightmare for your health that you must avoid

There's no way I can go get something checked out like I'm going to the freaking 7-Eleven to pick up a Slim Jim when he makes it sound so easy. Dork....
