As a 6 foot dude, I am amazed by F1 drivers all the time. Anyone who says its not a sport has not looked into it deep enough. I have driven an F1 car, Have a racing simulator at home, and drive a mustang GT. I can tell you right now, driving a car at high speeds takes a whole lot more muscle than throwing a ball down a field. The wheel wants to fight you the entire time. Most people have not been over 130 MPH. When you pass that point, it fees like you are floating. The car is responsive to your every move. You dont understand how it feels to floor a sports car (its not a good idea) So to those that say driving is not a sport, please try to take a lap with me at Irwindale Speedway. It will change your perspective really quick. Thanks Noel for your perspective as usual! Absolutely love the content and am planning on going to your show this year!

I work in motorsports (crew, not a driver). It's not easy, and its not golf or billiards. Reaction time is everything. On top of physical strain, mental strain cannot be overlooked. Motorsport is incredibly serious for many people, especially those who have sacrificed their savings and sanity. Mental strain on drivers plus the dangers and physical strain is a lot for an average joe to handle. It's easy to overlook it, but crews members in many series are athletes too. 3:02 Currently, the tallest active racecar drivers are Esteban Ocon and Alexander Rossi. Both are 6'1"(185.42cm). The tallest of all time was Buddy Baker, standing at 6'6"(198.12cm). Check your facts, noel.

Speaking about G tolerance. The stamina race car drivers have to withstand the g force on turns is mind blowing. If you really think there is nothing athletic behind that you probably never drove something motorized.

I'm european so I grew up with my dad watching f1 evry weekend that it was on. I thought this is not sport but that doesn't mean I wasn't aware of how dangerous it is, there's accidents all the time. The tweet comparing it to golf or bowling I think is quite spot on
@bonifacelukosi95802 жыл бұрын
bowling and golf doesn't require quick thinking, constant processing of information, applying your skill repeatedly for a long duration, the prediction of what other drivers will do and simply trusting your life with other drivers. The mental game in motorsport and especially f1 is a whole different game.

I can't help but say that in my experience my being 6ft has been considered "emasculating" to some... now I have my own short king though so no worries.

I guess my husband and I are uninformed classless hillbillies because we watch Formula One all the time. To think people see it as bowling blows my mind. Also, I'm 5'9" (F) and he's 5'8". Wouldn't think height matters in this context but maybe it does? Sharing to help you with your studies, lmao

@@js8qp2pwisos I think some things are arts and other things are sports. I'd say racing is an art. It requires more technique than physical prowess. I'd say a sport like boxing is also a bridge between sport and art as an intellegent boxer beats a hothead any day of the week.

I think Motorsport doesn’t require as much athleticism as something like football 🏈, that being said it definitely requires more skill. Also you still have to be fit and in shape to participate effectively in Motorsport

Height is subjective, a 6ft 6 guy is tiny to a 7 footer, and a 7 foot guy is a dwarf compared to Robert Wadlow. So yeah, F1 is mid.

You have to actually be insanely fit to drive at an extreme. I don’t really know much about nascar but for F1 and Indy Car, not only do your reflexes have to be really good but physically pushing the pedals and turning the wheel for 2-3 hours straight at that pace is super taxing. F1 cars don’t have power assisted brakes. If you’ve never driven a car without a brake booster, the pedal is much harder to depress. Now imagine you’re travelling 350km/h or like 215 miles/h and you have to stop with only your leg power, and do it every corner, every lap for 50-70 laps. You need to be athletic to race.
