You could be the most qualified candidate, but with thousands of other applicants, the chances of your resume being noticed or securing an interview are slim. I have about 16 solid years of experience, and I customize my resume for most of the jobs I apply to. Despite this effort, for every 1,000 jobs I've applied to, I've only received one or two interviews. In total, I've had probably 6 or 8 interviews. This indicates that my resume is either not being seen or there are many other candidates with similar or higher qualifications. I am 3 hours away from a reasonable tech area. So, my only real choice was remote. I couldn't afford to relocate my family. But, what I found were people having multiple job offers, for hybrid roles primarily, near the big cities. So, location, location, location. Also, being involved in meetups regularly were helping people land jobs. This is also kind of a location thing. I had to drive over an hour one way to get to a quarterly 3 hour mid week gathering in a relatively small tech area. Most people work for one big company there with a few offshoots.

There are jobs that are advertised to sharply hire and then fire the staff to inflate the company’s price or show savings. There are fake jobs to reflect growth, to reassure investors who pour money. For example, you need 2 Senior developers, Architect and tester. I.e. 4 people are needed, and the company places 15 vacancies to make do with different combinations of expertise within the budget if candidates are not found.

Here in AUS its been a transferance from contracting to permanent roles which are nearly paying the same $190k a year is about median for a Senior Hybrid cloud engineer or Devops Engineer like myself and the contractor low end for a day rate is $900 a day so works out around $197k unless your finding a decent contract role at the $120 an hour or $1100 a day which are out there but no benifits of leave / sick days ect so its a trade off at the higher end your making $240k a year but work all year with no other benifits.... in australia its a weird time as it used to be make alot more as a contractor now tech companies and the big boys want to pay near the same scale and it keeps retention and those skills in house

Has anyone ever told you that you sound like a white Morgan Freeman? Love your videos - keep it up!

I haven't heard that one. I do get a lot of comments on sounding like Obama. And thanks for the kind words!
