The collision theory makes the most sense but the collective unconscious theory is very interesting. If you watch most of the videos people make for the backrooms they fall to the ground then "no clip" into the backrooms,but it could just be that person passing out or hitting their head when they fall,then their subconscious takes over making the backrooms real in their head.. As someone who used to be obsessed with lucid dreaming, the collective unconscious is a really interesting theory. If you're lucid in a dream, you can't think of your fears. That's because said fears will then come into being, quickly making them into nightmares. That might also be the case for normal dreams? Maybe a passing thought can manifest like that. In normal dreams, it becomes very easy to forget about how unrealistic a circumstance you're in is. I once dreamt of suddenly having an apartment with just my siblings in America. We are European, minors and don't even have the money required to go there and buy an apartment. And yet, when I noticed I've been in this apartment before, not only was it the 3rd time in a row I've dreamt it, I literally accepted it as reality and moved on. I could imagine somebody dreaming of the backrooms after hearing a vague concept of it and thinking they actually clipped through reality, especially with the stress-induced adrenaline of being just terrified. :0

I liked the virtual theory best. I personally like to think that within the backrooms universe, reality is a simulation. And the backrooms are sort of a glitched area that can be accessed with extreme precision, kinda like in those old gameboy pokemon games. All the halls and levels are sort of the equivalent of stringing binary. Except it's not 1's and 0's. Or perhaps it's some kind of test area? Like whoever controlled all of it wanted to try and mimic human spaces, but needed sufficient space. So perhaps that's why it's so big? And all the entities could be creations of whatever was controlling all of this. Kinda like the alien theory but a bit more grounded in my opinion.

the window theory made me think of my own theory, so basically in my theory there's one level that looks exactly like level 0 that actually *_is_* the first level ever made and has one singular window in it's center. The window gives direct vision to the frontrooms and works like a rubert's glass drop, if you open it, the rest of the backrooms ceases to exist, every person that didn't die there get a free way back into the real world, leaving only the less hamful entities in this level. Many go through this level without even realizing, be either first time or returning from other levels.

Personally I think that the collective unconscious theory is the most believable. The ways you No-clip are ways to hurt yourself and fall unconscious. Scp explained also made a video on SCP-184, which they titled "Backrooms Creator?" It could be that the SCP foundation was researching a way for containment, or an scp such as the Scarlet King made it, which ties into the eldritch theory

I have a theory the back rooms are based off of this thing where if the atoms in one thing (e.i your body perhaps) lines exactly up with something else’s atoms (anything) you go right through it! But my theory is that that thing happens to you, and once it does your body gets destroyed in the process due to you going right threw the object and causes you to end up in the back rooms because you broke the laws of Physics

Personally, I think the hole in reality theory and the collision theory sort of combined makes the most sense. The backrooms is a sort of in-between for the realities, so things from both worlds are in there. The backrooms has lots of human technology in it while mainly inhabiting entities. I think the entities and people are being sucked in to make the in-between of the realities bigger, and over time it became its own thing entirely known as the backrooms, while remaining connected to both and ever-growing. This would also explain why some things in the backrooms defy our laws of physics. Its because it not only has some of our laws of physics, it also has the other realities laws mixed in. But idk it could also be something else, we probably won't find out

I like to think the back rooms is alive and an entity in itself. It tries to mimic structures and environments we are familiar with like office hallways but it doesn’t fully understand us same as we don’t understand it so it comes off as both unfamiliar and familiar at once. I think the smaller entities within the back rooms in a way feed the backrooms by hunting for themselves and the entity gains more knowledge of our species. I’d guess and say it’s main goal is the consumption of our world.

Lemme make an in universe theory. Say what if the backrooms was the manifestation, in an exaggerated manner, of the people’s perception of modern society in a 1st world country. After all some see it as something too big to bear, others as a refuge, etc. Now when the picture of the backrooms came up, what if it materialized this exact perception of such a life, in dreams of course, into a concrete form that people could imagine easier. Therefore the backrooms became a universal idea, a meme (in the memetics theory, which says that the most basic unit in all of communication is the idea, in its own context, that being the meme. Maybe I misunderstood that, feel free to correct me). TL;DR the backrooms is an exaggerated manifestation of what people think living in a first world country looks like. With isolation and all.

Personally, my theory is that the backrooms is sort of a 'corrupted' videogame. Pretty much, an alternate/future reality where true virtual reality is commonplace, and the backrooms was a standard life-simulation videogame. It has offices, neighborhoods, highways, etc and was online. This would explain the many videogamey parts of the backrooms (noclipping and levels, obviously, but other things like certain edible items increasing 'health' or 'energy' like the energy bars that can make a person run longer like in level !), until it corrupted and the levels warped and glitched and the enemies and players did too.

Just throwing this out there,it is actually physically possible to “noclip” through objects, everything is made of atoms and these atoms can obviously go around each other so if you had someone slap their hands on a table over and over again for an infinite amount of time then eventually there would be a time when every molecule in their hand perfectly passes around the molecules in the table….it would probably take longer than it would take to reach the heat death of the universe multiple times over but it is physically possible

Atoms are incredibly small, but they take up a huge amount of space for their scale. Given how structured atoms are in solid objects, it would likely be impossible to push another atom in the gaps between them. The reason we don’t phase through objects is because electrons push against one another, and the force they exert to repel one another increases the harder they’re pushed together (up to a certain point).

My theory is that the backrooms existed throughout the entire timeline of Earth, and the Backrooms is just a reflection of the world we live in. So take houses with yellow wallpaper, the Backrooms is reflecting off of that. The average office, the Backrooms is reflecting off of that. A library, the Backrooms is reflecting off of that. Probably in ancient times, the backrooms just looked like you were inside a temple that feels like it has no end. And the entities, they are their Greek and Roman gods, except they are trying to kill their victims. That would be the Backrooms in ancient times. I like to think that in this fictional universe, earth itself is a simulation. Some entity, either the humans living in the simulation or those who created it, started working on a virtual utopia that was created with procedural generation. The project was at some point dropped, corrupted, or otherwise not completed in the intended form. This resulted in the new possibility to glitch into this alternate reality. Many of the levels seem to serve some sort of purpose for this new paradise. Food collection, games, pools, all the service tunnels keeping things in order, etc.

I belive the backrooms is a universe that is sentient and watches over every other universe, and anytime an entity or human no clips it is punished, like a anti cheat in a game. However, some entities are unable to no clip or is very difficult for them to noclip, so they are more rare. The backrooms also likes to torture you, so it makes you think you can survive by putting all this helpful stuff in it. Also, when you die in the backrooms you are sent back to the beginning, forever trapped in a loop. And, it is a 4th dimensional universe, and the 4th direction is level. This determines what level you are on, if you were confused. The backrooms has a few blind spots, however. These are the safe levels. Also, every entity you see has evolved to be a lot different than what they are in their universe, this is to adapt to the backrooms. Some find it better to hurt humans, others find it better to help us.

My theory is that the Backrooms are the byproduct of our reality. just as almost any process in nature creates waste (such as movement creates heat), when a godly entity created this reality the byproduct was the creation of the Backrooms, which explains why it looks and functions many times like a twisted version of our world and it also explains why this place is called "The Backrooms" (as if it's trash that is hidden in the back of our reality). I also believe that with levels changing and more levels being discovered, the Backrooms are expanding like the universe is, and much like a computer creating dump files when processing thing our reality keeps creating "dump" in order to keep itself functioning normally. Theory 001: A Quantum event occurred with the exact “coding” to generate the backrooms in a way in which it copies our memories and generate a new set of rooms and hallways, it is possible that perception/thought can affect “random” quantum events, but it is highly doubted amongst many, it’s just like our universe, it was generated by a random quantum fluctuation in space time, Theory 002: The government tried to open a gate to another dimension (Most likely in the 70’s - 90’s allowing for relatively infinite storage and residential needs, an extremely strong magnetic field effectively pulling the backrooms reality toward ours resulting in earthquakes and time distortion. When you no-clip through certian walls in a video game, you can reach out of bounds, this odd glitched place, that you weren't meant to see. #7 appears to be the theory that Kane Pixels uses, with influences from the "no-clipping" theory. One of their videos shows both objects and the cameraman getting pulled through the ground, into the backrooms. But the A-Sync Research organization discovered a way to create entrances into the backrooms from almost anywhere, using electro-magnets.

Theory: ASYNC wanted the backrooms to be a war shelter but when they were examining it to make sure it was safe, they encountered a person who claimed he had fallen through the floor. He said they need to get out of there when a clone of the person came out of no where. One researcher approached the clone but he didn’t survive obviously. (It’s a skin stealer) They ran away from the creature when they found a different coloured wall. They touched it and they got sent to level 1. They saw a smiler and the person they found got pulled into the shadows and the smiler kills them. They went to find the exit when they found a red door. They went through it and it led to level !. They ran for there life and ended up in level fun. There were only three people left now. They thought level fun looked safe until the saw a smiley face painted in blood. Then they heard a laugh and they realised a partygoer was behind them. Just then one of the researchers no clipped right out of the backrooms. He didn’t know what happened to the other people but he guessed they died to partygoer. He knew not to go back to that facility ever again.

Its the theory that a goverment agency found out that they could make the backrooms, and they thought they could use it for infinite space for people. They kept on making levels but eventually reached too far. You were meant to be able to choose your level and it was probably not as unorganized, the entities were probably meant to mean things. But it all went wrong with a malfunction and the entities took over.

I have a theory i’m calling The Corrupted VR Theory The backrooms was originally made by either an omnipotent being, future humans or even aliens as an eternal simulation for humanity or for themselves of humanity. This could explain why there seems to be levels like cities, office spaces & other places. At some point though, things started to get corrupted and warped. AI in this VR game started corrupting into the known entities and whatever beings made the VR eventually abandoned it. The backrooms was left to sit there corrupted and this led to it expanding into repeating patterns and warped spaces of what once was a “perfect simulation” of mankind. Maybe this corruption even got so bad that it could explain why people are able to no-clip into the backrooms from reality. Certain times the backrooms will corrupt so bad that holes in reality will be opened up and people fall through them and end up in this warped VR.

I’ve got a theory: Hogwarts is the backrooms. How does Harry get to 9/3 quarters? Noclipping. How do Newt and Theseus get there? Using a port key. The TriWizard contestants are assumed to get there via ‘normal’ wizard travelling but I think they actually ‘phased’ into the backrooms or something like that. There are entities and a lot more things backrooms-ish.

Another theory:Backrooms might have been created by SCP-187(The Builder/The Architect), this anomaly expands the enclosed space it is in to infinity, with weird changes, but it needs time to do so. The spaces created by this anomaly get progressivly wierder, like ,for example, rooms in form of a sphere. This would explain the fact that a lot of backrooms levels are not infinite by implying that the anomaly was removed/replaced into another space.

My theory: God is a game developer... Short end of that explanation is that God is a developer and was programming a game with a bunch of different genres but he was a beginner programmer and wasn't that skilled. He eventually made the frontrooms many eons later. He had a bunch of different ideas of for "reality" that he wanted to try, but eventually just settled on making the SIMS (which is us but obviously more complex). In the end he simply just forgot to delete the backrooms which became an unfinished collaborate of different games that were supposed to be interconnected. Or.... God was the computer itself and just like the movie the matrix it was trying to create a reality that was stable and made sense with sentient life. However, it had to revise several times because the reality came out as either too unstable or dangerous for sentient life that often became corrupted or were killed by corrupted. Eventually it made our reality from the assets it created over time from the backrooms, but left out all the extra things that it never bothered to delete. Essentially that would also mean that everything that exists in the frontrooms likely already existed in the backrooms as assets. And when humans create something they create something they perceive as their or human creation but is actually just an asset acquired from the backrooms. Of course all the corrupted entities probably couldn't be deleted after God finished so he just put a wall to separate the corrupted from the finished reality. However the wall he put up had some holes from coding errors. At that point God was probably done with his project meaning these simply went undetected and weren't fixed or it could be that they are so small that God couldnt detect them and they werent fixed simply because of that.

Honestly, The most likely is a Vibration alternative Reality. Many scientists theorize there are other realities on top of this one, except they are on a different vibrational level. Which would explain the magnetic disruption oh Kane videos. Because of the way we are made, we can't even see all of the colors there are. There are millions of colors that we can't see, they exist on other vibrational levels. Since life is a simulation on its own, the back rooms are just dev rooms that are hidden in the program. Like Skyrim and fallout dev rooms where they test stuff.

The origin i accept is that it was a glitch in our world, a simulation glitch. In development sometimes you extra things that were used for cutscenes or testing out things. These are very weird looking as they aren't ment to be seen by the normal player. So i like to think that in the backrooms world it is a simulation. And the creators of said simulation created the backrooms away from the front rooms. It was ment to be used for testing "Entities" as in humans and such to put in the front rooms. They kept the backrooms after successfully finishing the front rooms. Now the backrooms is far away in a place where you can only access through no clipping. The backrooms have very unreal things that are basically prototypes of things. Such as hounds, they might've been prototypes of Dogs and they act like one in Level 11. And facelings, they seem to be a prototype of humans and they also act like one in Level 11. But smileys could've been a joke or a mistake while making faces. We can't really know what they were ment for. sorry for the essay.

my theory is that, the backrooms is just that, the backrooms of reality, where everything ever imagined is put in. the backrooms is an amalgamation of all of those thoughts, skin stealers were made up from some random guy in a dream, the backrooms is the behind the scenes of reality, that’s why there are constantly new levels being made, new entities being fabricated, and new colonies forming. the backrooms is real, but through our imagination. we percieved it as being, and now it is. noclipping was imagined, and so is the backrooms itself. us humans in the universe where the backrooms is real, have the power to make anything we imagine come into being, aliens found out about this, took a human hostage and made them imagine the backrooms’s existence, hence why that can’t happen anymore.

My theory which is related to the series the Backroom by Kane Pixels: ++What is the backrooms? The Backroom is a limited amount of manifested space that exists within another dimension, why it is limited while it seems to be infinite I will explain later. Base on the series The Backrooms by Kane Pixels, which is now very well taken by the community behind this story. The Backrooms incidents started occurring in 1989, when scientists researched and found out the existence of another dimension, this group of scientists is from the company A-sync. They successfully accessed this another dimension and using computer technology ,they systematically generated a limited space in this dimension to be able to access this space physically, by human, from our particular dimension. The purpose of this research is to find a limitless or at least useable space within another dimension to save billions of dollars in storage , logistics and residential needs (from video The Third Test) This generated space is simply coded into : yellow , greenish wall paper, with overhead fluorescent light. The corridors within this pace are also systematically generated to be long and have pillars in between. This space was generated to be limited, but due to existing in another dimension, with different laws of nature, this space when manifested into physical within our dimension, act as a connecting space, which means it shares both characteristics of 2 dimensions. So when human get into it, it appears to be limitless physically, but actually informatically limited (from video First Contact). When the portal opened, scientists had it mapped , they discovered that it generated itself unlimitedly from the point of the portal. ++Why people started glitching into the backrooms? Originally, the dimension that the backrooms exist within can't manifests itself physically within our dimension, therefore, it's impossible for objects, living beings from our dimension to come in contact with this dimension. But since 1989 ,after scientists from A-sync opened a physical space within this dimension, coming in contact with it became possible. And it happened that this dimension also connected to our worlds, our dimension in someway, outside of A-sync labs, so people, objects, information from our realm started leaking into this physical space. It's like you dig a hole into the ground, and now things running on the ground like human, animals, objects start falling into it. ++ Why this dimension is connected to our dimension? This is unknown, but logically , scientists from A-sync were able to tap into this dimension, therefore, our dimension must be connected with it. ++ Why that it was generated systematically, but thing that is out of order started appearing, like weird spaces, and monsters? Since information from our world also started leaking into this dimension, it also started manifesting itself into existence within the physical space. This all happened in a way that no one can understand, simply out of our imagination.
