If you use a normal air lock, make sure you take the lid off or remove the airlock before you use the spout. Otherwise you're probably gonna suck sanitizer and fruit flies into your brew lol.

It looks really interesting and a nice way to step up to a slightly larger capacity of brewing. Too bad the price for it in Canada is obscene.

The one I had broke after 3 uses and spilled 2.5 gallons of a sack mead all over the place. It cracked toward the bottom of the cone. It was a waste of $50 plus the cost of all that honey. I was not very pleased.

@cavalryscout8720 The plastic at the bottom cracked open. Not sure how. It was about a week into fermentation and poof, mess. Poor manufacturing would be my guess.

I've got 4 of these and I love them! Super handy for small batch high abv, or testing new recipes. I do struggle to get a good seal on the airlock hole but can be done. Also I've cut myself on the plastic when cleaning a few times. But 100% worth it for me. However, I paid the equivalent of 21USD for mine.

Also, I just use an autosiphon, the air that gets stuck in the tube when I use the spout puts me off... ... now to watch the video!

Thank you, you don't know how much this video helps me. I live in Canada and have been thinking about getting one of those BrewDemon fermenters. The cost of that same conical fermenter would be around $125 Canadian dollars for me.

hey Gary,, these in Australia are $189,, free delivery from Amazon.... they look great,,, but I am happy with doing Primary in a food grade white bucket,, made your cyser,, apple, cinnamon mead,,, yes very nice,, thanks for the recipe Bill,,,, for older guys who need to pee at night,,, make ginger mead,,, drink some,, and u will find peeing at night is a thing of the past!! ha ha I found this by accident,,, and ginger mead is awesome stuff !!

I bought one of those with my credit card points a few years ago. Like the conical part of it and how easy it is to clean up. Don't really use the air cap thingy. Mine came with an extract IPA recipe that was pretty good.

Good presentation - cool and cheap. I'm kinda kicking myself in the butt now, as I had a chance to pick one up a few years ago for like $10 from a fellow homebrewer. I have several 4L glass wine jugs for small batches, so at the time I just didn't see myself using it much. Oh well. Cheerz.

I think I'm just gonna craft my own with a plastic bucket and a 5" diameter piece of pvc. Just make a receptical for the lees to settle into. Doesn't need to be conical.

I've seen DIY fermentation use this with that red cap air lock. Others have called things like this or the Mr. Beer fermenters as gimicky but I have a 4 gallon a 6 and a half gallon plastic bucket fermenters. But my favorite is my 2 gallon Mr. Beer. I mainly only brew wines.

I used that for three gallons for a cranberry wine. I couldn't use the spout due to yeast build up, but it's nice.

I've done a few brews in mine. I noted that DIYFermenter's is clear plastic. Mine is like yours and frosted. When doing a dark brew, it is hard to see how high the lees is. Also, the built in air lock snaps all the way in, and doesn't ride up. Good video.

It can work! It just sometimes loses the nice floral side that you get with raw honey

Not the worst fermenter Ive ever owned. I liked being able to see whats going on inside the fermenter as opposed to a bucket. Also like the conical and being able to bottle straight from the spout, leaving trub behind

with an airlock how much taller is this than a standard 1g carboy with the same airlock? I ferment in a 65 degree freezer since I'm in Florida and I'm worried this wont fit

Would the yeast in the bottom still be viable to repitch after a mead in the 9-12% ABV range starting at ~1.084-1.108 SG?

I wouldn't worry too much about some "wasted" mead (i.e., the bit below the spout). After all, when racking, you try to avoid sediment and this usually involves leaving behind a small amount of mead in favor of fewer racking phases (i.e., 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.). Clearer mead with fewer rackings means less waste overall. My buddy and I brew a lot of mead. We started with a few plastic, 5-gallon, all-in-one style fermenters what had spigots on the bottom. I wish I had a picture. Anyway, they take care of at least 80% of the sediment, more if you don't have to move it and let the mead sit about 6-8 weeks (primary). I would get one of these. Anyone use the Catalyst brand that uses Mason jars? That looks good too.

I started out with this fermenter...there's nothing wrong with it, and a 2 gallon batch is excellent for those starting out as fermentations that go awry are less expensive than 5 gallon batches...there are many 2 gallon beer kits available commercially...it's a great way to "dip a toe" in the brewing world. After a time, you realize temperature control is KING and this system doesn't feature it. Nothing stops you from doing temp control if you wish...but you can make 5 gallon batches for less and both systems work in common dorm refrigerators...along with an inkbird ITC-308. Cheers!

Ugh, gross. Don't brew in plastic, people. All plastics leach chemicals over time. Glass is not that expensive, it will last a lot longer and is easier to sanitize properly.

Just giving my two cents on plastic conicals, cant watch the video right now Typically you are going up in size with a conical usually to atleast 5-10 gallon batch sizes and at these sizes for conicals, you are starting to get deeper into homebrew. And at this level I think plastic is avoided at all costs because it doesn't have the longevity factor.

Eventually the Plastic degrades and you will taste it more and more in your brews.
