Close championship battles with no chase or playoffs needed and the race and racing itself is still exciting. 2022 had 5 drivers separated by less than 100 points heading into the finale while NASCAR needs a March Madness bracket to have 4.

I'm genuinely surprised the playoff system has lasted as long as it has. It doesn't reward the best drivers at all, it's reminiscent of the plot of a Cars movie. Though I'm not sure how you would make a good playoff system for a racing sport beyond just "whoever has the most points wins."

It made more sense in Cars than this does, 3 cars tied so they added a big 400 mile race on a massive, fast speedway for the 3 drivers to settle the tie, this is just dumb.

The original format still works if NASCAR decides to just implement it and market their races for their uniqueness & novelty. That's what mattered to fans most anyway. Maybe tweak the points to where wins matter more but that system worked for decades. All NASCAR has to do is take their hands out of the pie & let racers race. But they won't and it's an actual travesty that a champion's going to be decided next week based solely on this farce of a format.

The reason they got away from total points and started a playoff system was sometimes the winner had the title with 2, 3 or even 4 races before the season was over. They have just got to get out of their own way where you can't cheat and protect drivers, pick a better series of tracts and not play games with the players with funky playoff tract selections. Seems every race a new situation and a new rule, cautions come out way too early sometimes and not fast enough on others. This race was horrible! I have about three drivers I like to keep up with and Bell is one of them and hated what happened, as he was almost innocent but NASCAR had to get Chevrolet in the playoffs I feel and Bell's incident fit the mold for exclusion! Blaney is another favorite and it was good to see him win, but no TV time for him with long wait of silence and interviews for the non-winners!

William Byron did nothing wrong. He should not be penalized for something not of his doing (it was the 1 and 3 that were in the wrong) Christopher Bell clearly wall rode, and can't be put in either. They don't need to put Larson in, they need to change to rules

Byron and Bell for the matter, likely did not know what was transpiring around them. Bell however rode the wall. Nascar will likely penalize the 3 and 1, and should also penalize the 23

I’ve got no problem with the playoff system. If you win you in the playoffs you advance. Just like every other sport. NASCAR didn’t want a driver to just earn enough points to win the championship. They ended that when Kenseth pointed his way to a championship with just one win for the season.

Wow! A 50 point penalty and $100000 fine to only the 1, 3, and 23 even though the entire manufacturers were in on the deals? Call that a slap on the wrist! That is the exact same thing as when two students cheat in school, and the kid who is giving answers gets in trouble, while the one receiving the answers does not. NASCAR needs to take action so that the same thing CANNOT happen next year. This won’t stop teams from manipulating races. The solution to all this is making this a final 3 for the championship, to REALLY show what will happen if teams start doing things like this. If Byron wins the championship, it is absolutely filthy and completely undeserved. I don’t even dislike Byron.

If nascar want the end of season playoff excitement the nfl brings you have to fully commit to “teams” rather then individual drivers. If your team gets knocked out at the end of the season your season ends and you don’t get the chance to manipulate the playoff teams. If you want it to be an “individual” sport then go back to the points system and randomise what track is raced each week so no one can pre plan there season.

So 10 teams of 4, those 4 drivers can communicate and one will be the “Captian” and they work together to get there team through the playoffs together. So end of season the team with the least points is done for the season. That happens week to week and the final race is the top 3 or 4 teams so still at 12-16 car race, no manufacturer or non playoff drivers manipulating who goes to the next round. I highly doubt it’ll ever happen so just go back to the points system, if some one dominated the first half of the season when all the races are randomised they deserve it. But let’s be honest, every year some one dominated the start of a season and had it in the bag half way through nascars viewers would plummet cause who cares. NASCAR don’t care they just want a reason there for you to watch every race of the season

Its not the playoffs thst are the problem its having teams. Generally teans try to work together but bec of racing and sell interest they don't usually workout very well. But when you umbrella team under manufacturers its broader blanket with more people involved. Getting rid of manufacturer incentives are the problem.
