Another thing that could make moon come off as more “comfortable” or loveable, is the impression that moon isn’t ACTUALLY evil, and that vanny had just “possessed” him. The idea that (when not possessed) moon actually comforts children into sleeping and hands out moondrop candies is way easier to see why people would find him a comfort character. This also gives you a reason to feel sympathetic for moon. “He doesn’t WANT to kill and chase down children, he was just forced to do it!”- and as you said, people like to route for the underdog.

Are they overrated? Yes. But does that matter? No. We're giving them the attention that the game doesn't They are huge comfort characters for people (me included) And we love em! Some people could say that Moon shouldn't be a comfort character because if him being 'evil', but it's most likely that it was just the virus that made him that way, so before the virus he was probably more calm, and comforting for his job. |Conclusion-They are overrated characters that deserve it, and we will always love them!^^|

As someone who's been a Foxy fan since the early years of FNaF and has gotten into the DCA fandom, I feel called out. Funnily enough, when I first watched Markiplier play SB, I didn't really care all that much about Sun and Moon. It wasn't until after watching NotRealName NotAtAll's Eclipse theory video that I began to get invested in whatever they got going on. It was like a switch flipped in my brain and I began to think of all the weird and interesting things about them. Looking back on their personalities, I can also see how I ended up liking them in the end. Sun's nervous energy as well as his want to have someone to interact with kind of reminds me of how I was as a kid. I didn't have many friends and wanted to get in on the fun during school recess. For Moon, I just think he's neat. In-game, he's villainous in a cartoonish (kind of gremlin-y) sort of way which I enjoy. Also, the description of the Moon plush in Ruin implies he was a good caretaker in the past (same goes for Sun). Then, there's the new addition: Eclipse. They're an absolute sweetheart! I really hope we get to see them again someday in a better situation. If I'm being honest, Sun and Eclipse have some of the most eerie designs in the series to me. They almost hit the uncanny valley. Not sure why, but Moon doesn't have the same effect as those two. However, if they were real and I saw any of the three as a little kid, I would have been terrified lol.

This hits kinda hard for me... I was a HUGE fan of Foxy out of the entire cast when FNAF started all the way up, though the Puppet was a second up their as well because both had such amazing features! Foxy and the puppet NEVER acted like the rest of the cast and their mechanics were different enough that it made things challenging and I loved that about it! They were also the most terrifying for me because they could just come out of nowhere even if you knew what the jest of it. They were my favorites up until FNAF 4 and sister location where I never really could bond with... I mean none of them really appealed to me like Foxy or the puppet did(Though Foxy was always on top for me) and while I liked the concepts of Funtime!Foxy and Ballora I just... They never really appealed to me like the other two did... I also HATED nightmare marionette(Its my most hated puppet of the FNAF games). Pizza simulator came out and I added Lefty to that mix until i found out it was literally the puppet in another animatronic so again, the puppet was among the favorites but, I HATED the Rockstar!Foxy... They made him just like the rest of the cast and for me? That took away some of the joy I had for him. so, in 2 games they ruined 2 very core characters for me in different games. When security breach came out I was not sure what to expect and will fully admitted i wasn't sure what to think of Sun and Moon upon meeting them through Markipliers game-play... Sun was just so overly cheerful and sweet that I was taken aback because nobody, not EVEN the puppet were this kind to you but then MOON comes out of left field and i was terrifies to hell and back of him... He was terrifying in the best way that the others couldn't emulate and because sun&moon were together it made me end up loving them more when the game was ended! It wasn't until after the game that I came to enjoy them more because like Foxy or the puppet they were different! They had thier own spot in the games, they were out of left field and brought NEW things to the table! Plus, the lore on them was mysterious and it made me want to know them more! So, yes they may be overate ... But they were still such a wonderful concept to bring into the game even if it was briefly plus, sun&moon made me want to get back into fandom stuff again because I loved them so much! Also, it was hinted that sun&moon were supposed to have a bigger role in the game but, it was not achieved due to certain RL events so, I think if we take that into consideration... they could have been even more terrifying as they were amazing! All, in all I love these 4 and while Sun&moon have replaced Foxy at the number 1# spot they all hold a specials place for me in this fandom.

I don't think it's about screentime so much as it is impact. Sun and Moon have just enough info given to create a general sense of what they're like, but little enough info to create a mystery a decent mystery toward... something happening. Also, Eclipse didn't get popular because of Ruin. Eclipse was already an immensely popular idea among DCA fans for a long time thanks to Balloon Boy's arcade game. Had he not gained so much traction in the fandom, there's a possibility he may not have had any appearance in Ruin. If we're going by screentime alone, that would make GR Bonnie easily the most overrated in the whole game, piggy backing off the success of his previous iterations. He doesn't even appear until Ruin, where you can't even do anything with him. It doesn't change the fact that his absence was felt and created a compelling mystery. These characters are ripe for interpretation and creative liberties without deviating too much from the canon. At least until new canon comes around that fans either reject and keep their fanon work or accept wholeheartedly and toss out their previous ideas (looking at you, Bonnie artists)
