The fact that Houston is a 1/2 game out of 1st place at this point in the season is a testament to good coaching and solid team building by the GM . Just a couple years ago Houston was playing for Draft Picks now they are playing to become champs . This is outstanding considering how far they have come in such a short time period. The reason the Rockets finished .500 last year, was because they weren't healthy. Sengun missed a big chunk of games at the end of the season (played 63 games), and Tari Eason was battling injuries the whole season, finishing wins 22 games played. What would they have done with 2 of their best game changers healthy the whole season?

Key word: healthy… not knocking the Rockets but they have the 1st ranked defense by a wide margin with a below average offensive efficiency against 2-3 healthy teams so far. So either this team remains healthy and sustains this level when all the the stars come back, or the Rockets are going go back to reality and finish with whatever momentum they find in March. But they emphasized the importance of health this year. Probably the only team with their full lineup which is particularly impressive.

That speaks to how good they actually are when they execute and the level of competence the coaching is for this team. Someone who doesn’t max out your payroll. Or they might as well package Jalen for a star shooting guard.
