My understanding is that the idea of "chose people" means Allah chose them to convey his message of righteousness to the rest of humanity but the Israelites did the opposite. However, the Jews today have this idea that God chose them because they are a special and superiour race and the others are worthless people and they call them Gentiles. As for prophet Mohammed pbbuh, Allah chose the Arabs to do take the same responsibility. I hope I am not wrong.

The question that should be asked is: Chosen to do what exactly? Jews were chosen to uphold God's religion. Jews failed to do that, disappointed Allah (swt) and were hence punished by Allah (swt). There is a recent video of Nouman Ali Khan regarding this.

The very term chosen is up for Interpretation but this is never taken up in discussions. In the bit of reading I have done of the Tora I propose that the Jews are chosen in order to hylight the general failings of mankind in general.

Two much importance is given to Qibla and Night's Journey which is NOT supported by the scripture. Night's journey was a vision (Quran 17:60). Qibla change was a test (Quran 2:143). Moses and Aaron asked their people to use their own houses as Qibla (Quran 10:87). Becca (old name of Mecca) was the first Masjid (Quran 3:96). To pray together, it is necessary to pray in the same direction. That's all there is to it (Quran 2:177)

Thanks for another informative presentation. This is the best forum for learning about religion and the truth about scriptures. Israelis, although chosen, were only favored as long as they honored their part of the covenant. They did not. Now, like Sarah, who did not patiently wait for Allah to fulfill His promise. Had this question been asked in the PAST TENSE, the answer would have been an unequivocal YES. In present tense though, we find the answer to the question in the Quran as referenced below. The way I understand it is they are or were the “chosen” people of God to be the first monotheists and endure the trials and tribulations that they did, but in this case “chosen” does not mean something like “better” or “special”
