Bismillah, notes taken as khutbah heard: 1. Biggest surah is Al Baqarah, right after Al Fatihah - it contains comprehensive summary of Islam. 2. We are children of Ibrahim as - most prophets are from his lineage. 3. Allah chose Bani Israel a special status - and gave them many prophets. It’s the blessings Allah gave them, they’re greatly honoured and therefore this nation have bigger responsibility than everyone else (to promote peace, mercy, model family life). And of course in Baqarah Allah highlighted Bani Israel failed in many ways. 4. Allah doesnt destroy nations when they dont live up to the responsibility expected - example Bani Israel escape from the Pharoah, they asked for ‘slave-food’ and obviously missing some aspects when they were under oppression. Stuck where they are, in a rot. 5. Principles - we are currently being tested as a society - what does it mean being an ummah? We need to do more, do more positive things together, absolutely essential to foster relationship with one another, to start being a real ummah, with collective efforts. But it starts with individuals making real steps to contribute towards being a society. No use complaining about the ummah being divided if we dont have play a part at all.

The feeling of being an ummah, that needs to connect with each other and apply the best of Islam, and the best of what learned from the west, is what i had inside me all the time, but I was not able to apply it every day. The sense of ummah is important and needed to be teached a lot more and practiced
