I just read a report that says Bath in Somerset has seen a huge rise in shoplifting. Bath is a very posh place and my niece who lives a few miles away and works in Bath told me last year that she has seen a big increase in Romanian beggars and big issue sellers. I served in greater Manchester police for 30 years. My last 18 years as a detective. I always approached any investigation with the ABCC theory. Never Assume don’t Believe anything at face value and always Confirm and Corroborate every piece of evidence no matter how small before reaching an informed decision. The incident has echoes of the Halloween event in Edinburgh where a cleanly severed head was found by revellers and the police it was the result of being run over by a bus. But nobody seems to know which bus, who owns it, who was driving it or how a public transport vehicle, which would be subject to mandatory safety regulations to protect the public, had the ability to sever a head accidentally without any known witnesses.

Have you seen the state of some of the police officers these days? We regularly get them in where I work and it’s a standing joke between us how some are so overweight they couldn’t run to the end of their own street never mind give chase to a criminal. Then we have those who are vertically challenged and would have been laughed out of the place for applying years ago. I’m talking about the males as well who are no taller than me at five foot four. You know there’s something wrong when me as a middle age woman looks at the misfits knowing I can outrun the belly wobblers and can put up a fight against the Ronnie Corbett brigade. It’s no wonder they run away when it all kicked off in Harehills during the summer as they’re physically and mentally not up to the job. I’ve often joked about the misfit force to my 20yr old explaining this is what happens when everyone has to be included and receive a medal as to not hurt their feelings. I have also shown how the police previously looked before having to be at least six foot and he said it made sense as they’re less likely to be attacked or targeted when they’re fitter stronger and taller than all those lovelies who are so fond of doing so now.

Our local TV reporting here in the US has deteriorated to the point that their webpage is poorly made, flaky, usually freezes up, and written reports of "somebody did something" are all but useless. They tell you a stabbing was reported, approximate location, and a promise to tell you more as soon as the authorities bother to say at their leisure. And of course no descriptions beyond bipedal humanoid.
