Are The New Half Cabs Better?

My first thoughts on the new release of the Vans Skate Half Cab. Are they better? I go over fit and feel, differences and how they skate on the first day.

Since there's no real reviews yet I just wanna add a little bit with my experience: The flick was a little slippery at first but once you flick all the finish off it's absolutely perfect. This took around 3 good sessions but now the shoe has a perfect flick and good protection while still providing boardfeel. (UPDATE: 4/19/21): The shoe is still going solid and i'm just now starting to get to suede with my toes on my flicking foot! I do skate a lot i tend to use a lot more foot with my kick/fakie flips than my nollie/switch flips(even though i do more nollie flips lmao) hope this helps anyone else in the future! Go Skate!!!

@@BoyBoy-co6tm oh yes my bad i should've clarified. the "Skate Half Cab" is the updated model. i never skated the pro versions of this shoe though because i made sure to stay away from vans before because of the tongue issue

@@gimmegamma4849 Honestly, people aren't going to like this, but the real difference between the Pros and the Skate Classics is pretty much less than 10% to 5% improvement. Yes the tongue straps are nice, but that hardly was the biggest issue these shoes have. (Also, actually, quite a bunch of older Vans shoes do have tongue straps already, it just wasn't a 'standard' feature necessarily. Same goes for PopCush insole (which isn't as protective as UltraCush HD, which to me is a downgrade), wafflecup outsole and duracap toe cap (which by the way, barely changed at all, especially in terms of durability and again, already was featured on older Vans Pro shoes). It's 95% marketing, 5% actual improvements. And they tend to be slightly more expensive now.

i’ve had a similar issue with the flick being a little slippery, but other than that i agree that it’s such a great shoe!

After discovering Ben's channel, and now yours, I made the choice to go out and get a pair of skate shoes last week and these are what I ended up with. My first pair of half-cabs was back in 1993 and they were tight for my wide feet. These new ones are made wider so they fit me much better than the originals. Skating for the first time in over 10 years is a blessing ... but my knees are damn sore, lol! Thanks for the inspiration to get myself back on a board though!

They still make the original models too. It's called a Half Cab 92. They are drastically different from one another. The main difference is the 92s are cut way lower. Ive got them both, and I like the newer version a ton more!🤙

Just some advice. Half Cabs are REALLY stiff, tight and uncomfortable at first. I HATED them when I got them. I walked around in them a few days and skated a few sessions and now I love them. They take a while to break in, don't give up on them.

Actually these inside foam padding around the ankle started to break behind the Achille’s heel few days after just wearing and now it feels like it doesn’t squeeze the ankle as it should anymore… kinda pissed off by this. I tried to write to vans about it but never replied.

I fixed the tight issue by loosing up the laces a bit and they felt hella comfortable and work the same while skating

Way better then the crap they were selling in the 90's, back then a pair of Etnies was way better for your feet, Vans look cool though and have that Vans rubber. The new Vans Half Cabs have the great rubber but they are super comfortable and offer a lot of protection, you can land Primo in these and still have enough support in the sole to protect you, the sides, the tongue just have so much protection. I quit skating low tops long ago, i just wear the new Half Cabs really loose but they fit like a glove, if you were to roll your ankle the pading on the side will hit the ground and also protect your ankle from geting sliced by your board. I used to skate in straight up basketball shoes in the early 2000's, the shock and protection beat any skate shoe at the time. These new Half Cabs are next level. If you like low tops and board feel tbese ain't for you but if your like me you'll love them.

You found some solid spots. And the boardslide pop outs were nice. I am interested if they changed the shoe. When I first started skating three years ago (3 years of Saturdays) they felt floppy. The Adidas Tyshawn has become my go to shoe. But I did just pick up the Kalis Mids to try. Awesome skating Sir. Stay Rad.

Thanks dude! They definitely feel a lot more solid than the previous floppy half cabs. Even jumping down stuff (1 set of stairs 😂) they feel sturdy.

The newest version is a sturdy, baddass sk8 shoe!!!🤙

Got the slip-ons 2 weeks ago. They are still stiff and feel weird. The canvas is thicker. Shoe is slightly wider. The rubber sole is thicker. The back half of the sole has some rigid plate in there(very stiff back sole section). 2 days ago, I bought the pro slip-ons to compare. The pros feel so comfortable as soon as you slip your foot in there. The pros are a completely different shoe. Way way more cozy and can feel broken in immediately. The new classics are built like a tank. No doubt the new classics will last longer, but if you want board feel and straight out the box comfort. The pros win.

I've always wanted a pair of half cabs. Im skating the new Rowan Pro's at the moment. I shop clearance so half cabs are difficult to get on clearance. Usually clearance runs out of my size fast. Might have to pay full price for some half cabs the new ones seem to last longer.

I test to size up my vans and the cab is the most heavy i try in vans store and i plan to buy converse 70s high and 2nd vans sk8 hi and half cab also nike sb dunk white gum pro and sb pro gt black

Nice video, Adiano. Do these new Skate Half-cabs fit narrower than last year's the Half-cab Pros. I hope so, because I had the Pros but they were wide and slipped around on my narrow high arched feet. I had to lace them super tight so they looked weird haha.

I haven’t worn an ankle brace in a few years, not sure which one it was. I just know it had 3 straps and laces. I started doing ankle exercises and haven’t had issues since.

I'm still skating them 1 month later and they still have plenty of life in them. I will be doing a full review and wear test very soon. Stay tuned :)
