Are the Seattle Sounders BEEFING with USMNT?!

The Sounders will be in the Club World Cup, which means their players won't be available for the Gold Cup. Missing this camp means there is no other extended opportunity for the players to prove themselves. Seattle didn't want to let a veteran miss an early pre-season game?! That's dumb on the part of the Sounders. Also, the players have a right to know their wanted. This is on the Sounders.

National team call ups should should have priority over preseason friendlies for club. I don’t see why this is even a debate, the Sounders did not do right by their player.

These are some absolutely wild takes. It is most definitely on the sounders they do not need him to play in some random pre season friendly against some no name teams in Spain. When the national team calls you go even if it’s camp cupcake. Also doubt he breaks into the 26 roster. Would have been cool to see him with national team.

I gotta be honest, I'm kind of on the side of US soccer in this situation. I really wish USMNT was more accommodating, but from their point of view why would they take a guy who could only play 1 out of 2 games? The whole situation was pretty mismanaged from their end, but I feel like if you're on the outside looking in it's not a great look for the Sounders. I don't really care that much about the USMNT personally, but I do think letting Ragen go to the camp would have been the right thing to do by the player.

This sounds a whole lot like something that agents should pre-bake into contracts. The Sounders shouldnt get to say "its a you problem" if he saw USMNT as high honors. WTF is his agent doing, and whose personal desires are they actually fulfilling?

This decision hurt Ragen, and hurt the Sounders. Ragen would get more growth in usmnt camp then in ssfc camp. I watched players for 20 years go to usmnt camp and come back much better players. They show far more growth than when they are at the club. You cannot run the usmnt and have to compromise with every club. Especially January camp.

It seems like USMNT needs to change their procedure policy. Like checking with club team first, and then notifying the player.

Seeing as we open up the season in mid February and open it up with 3 games in 7 days... I understand why Sounders were selfish in wanting him back for start of preseason especially with getting everyone on board with the new formation and tactics. Plenty of CB pairings that need reps. The USMNT not being flexible in this manner is silly, especially after the season Ragen had. I get the idea of the sounders taking it on the chin and letting Ragen go for his sake, but the fact USMNT didn't budge a bit is bad business if you ask me.

Nah sounders gotta let Jackson’s go for 14 days. It’s not about the teams they are playing, it’s about the opportunity to get looked at by pochettino. Jackson couldn’t catch a flight to Spain 4 days later?

I disagree. It’s only 4 days so why can’t the usmnt be like ok let’s get him in for 10 days to see if we like what he offers. I mean it’s only 4 days

@@curtischadd well it's only 4 days, but it's one out of two games. So really it's 50% of the camp from a game perspective.

​​@@curtischaddI think you guys are underestimating how competitive the national team is. The staff probably doesn't want to waste time on people who won't show up when so many other players are so eager to be noticed. The National team is a big reason a lot of these players are able to make bigger moves overseas. Pepi for instance was able to move to PSV because of his face as a national team player.
