We always took it that they were organic creatures with possible cybernetics enhancements if they choose. Grodus being the most extreme case, where he basically is more machine then organic at this point. The lower ranked X-Nauts are basically like the Metro Cops or the Synths of the Combine in way, being brainwash to do whatever Crump and Grodus wants. While their use of words like dude or bro could just be a result of lack of intelligence (a side effect of the brain washing), or could be a sorta Bay Transformers/Junkions situation where that what they learn when learning how to speak Earth's languages.

Crump actually didn't build Magnus von Grapple, it's stated in the tattle log that it was built by X-Naut scientists. The tattle for X-Naut PhDs also states that they build all the weapons and machines the other X-Nauts use.

I like to think that the X-Nauts have robotic voices that pull's from a word bank they use to mask there true voice, with the voice filter differing based on there ranking of the X-Naut, with Grodus & Crump being the only exceptions with there own unique filters.

I believe the X-Nauts are from Earth but they're just really advanced. They're basically inspired by evil organizations like the Red Ribbon in Dragon Ball

My headcanon is that the X-Nauts are people kidnapped from Rogueport and modified into becoming obedient meat puppets. It would tie back into Rogueport’s setting very nicely. Nobody would notice a string of disappearances in a town like that, and they even threaten Goombella at the start of the game with kidnapping her.
@Sharpteeth324 ай бұрын
Jesus, that's disturbing. But thematically appropriate, especially for Grodus.
@theking83475 ай бұрын
Grodus at least is a cyborg. His head/brain at least is robotic, so it being severed from his body doesn't kill him. Crump and the rest are fully organic.

I've thought of the X-nauts as kind of modernised futuristic cult, With them worshipping them worshipping the shadow queen, Also the moon is just kind of a breathable planet in mario, So lord crump could've survived with how fast he was launched from the moon back down to earth.

I love these guys. We need them to come back in a new game, it doesn't even need to be paper mario, I just want to see them again. Maybe a playable Xnaut in a sports game or something.

That is assuming Nintendo is willing to use Paper Mario characters outside of Paper Mario nowadays.
@nicjoy44075 ай бұрын
Absolutely impossible for it to happen, but I would be so hype. Only series I could semi-realistically see it making would be mario kart, but considering they don't even have paper mario (yet they have like 6 marios) I don't personally see it happening, especially since the game is 22 years old, but with the remake maybe they want to re-explore the IP
@mariobroultimate18085 ай бұрын
@@nicjoy4407 I wouldn't be too interested in a Paper Mario character as another Mario clone anyways. Any Paper Mario original characters added to the roster would probably be represented in the 3D style of normal Mario like with the Star Spirits in Mario Party 5.

Since Lord Crump has something resembling a voice now, I hope someone can mod him into Mario Kart or something. I wonder how good Wario’s animations would look with a fanmade Crump model over them.

You get to see Yuxes being lab grown in the X-naut base, but not X-nauts. That's a point towards them not being created like robots.

Grodus is probably a cyborg, he seems much smarter than TEC, the alleged best computer in the world, so it wouldn’t make any sense for its boss to also be a machine. The minions are probably lobotomised or extremely brainwashed

I think Grodus is an alien robot, but i think the X-Nauts are just random people that were employed by him. Peach being able to wear the X-Naut outfit and blend in shows that they dont all have to be the same species, and their dialogue is surprisingly casual. Like the one who calls Grodus "dude" or the one who questions the disguised Peach not being at her station confirming that they even have breaks from their shifts at the X-Naut fortress. I think them being random people who work as X-Nauts as a job fits with how the Koopa Troop is portrayed as a career option in a lot of games, with benefits very similar to those one could find at an actual job irl. The reason why there are so many X-Nauts is just because Rogueport is a very shady place so its not too hard to find people who are willing to do scummy stuff for a paycheck
@BlusterTheBenevolent4 ай бұрын
It is likely that Grodus was an especially aged member of the X-Naut species and used technology to prolong his lifespan. Perhaps previous generations of X-Nauts used magic, as he’s the only one who knows elemental and time-stopping spells. Although, if these X-Naut PHD dudes can learn how to build battle mechs and teleporters, I wonder how difficult it is to teach them anything resembling Grodus’ magic.

I think the trio (Grodus/Crump/TEC) are the only ones with autonomy (TEC was supposed to be brainwashed but broke through). I'm sure the soldiers have a reasonable level of autonomy, but brainwashing prevents certain actions or allows Grodus or Crump to command them to do anything. I would imagine many x-nauts unmasked look like the boundless NPC's/enemies you see across the world of TTYD, and would explain why their uniforms are necessary. I would also imagine any high rank x-nauts achieve their rank just like how you would in the real world. They join willingly because they're promised a better world (and a higher rank in this new world since the soldier will help create it), cliché as it is, but obviously Grodus has other plans hence his paranoia and the necessity of the brainwashing. The devs seem to have been inspired by the many times in the real world where armies have been formed and wars have been started in the name of "spreading peace" or "creating a better world-our way". Oh and I think that Peach's voice during the cutscene is a red herring. The telling issue is that Grodus is surprised a soldier would ask "why" to him. Dictators love to explain why.

This has never really mattered to me, they're just some guys. Like them saying "dude" and stuff gives off a goofy group feeling or something. Grodus is the only one really taking it seriously, and he somehow found members. Maybe the scientist also take it a bit serious, or all the higher ranks. But it is interesting to speculate what they really are. This game has a few inconsistencies. Like how did grodus slip past you into the thousand year door after you open it? Fake Frankly say he somehow got in before you open the door, but that has to be a lie. Maybe Groudus is so obsessed with computers he replaced his brain with one. Maybe he thinks computers are superior to organic brains. The x-nauts not escaping the exploding fortress, and the fortress and Tec still being ok afterwards? Video game logic, idk. You gotta be able to revisit that place somehow, if you haven't collected all the star pieces. Again, inconsistent game. (i love this game so much still) To me, the x-nauts will just be some goofy guys who formed a group to take over the world. Some are dumb, some are really smart.

The Mario series is inconsistent when it comes to needing to breathe in space. In Mario Land 2, Mario wears a space suit on the moon. In Mario Odyssey, space suits don’t mean jack shit for anyone
