I know the feeling, fed up with dogs and whiting. I used to use live bait rigs down there, like a reverse pennal with a size 2 hook tied below a 4/0. Iwould clip down half a worm and throw it out as far as possible and when it started tapping you knew you had your live bait ! But anything that would take a live bait these days are so few and far between I hardly bothered to go in recent years. Roll on the summer.

Don’t get discouraged Rhys you always do well for the plaice at Brighton, one thing for sure in the local Medway in summer it’s full of mullet, give them a go , use your wits and try and get a good one, my best is Severn pounds , not bad , beat that next year . We used to catch cod in the lower Thames at grain in the early eighties my best from there 13 pounds quite good for there .

Southern north sea is trashed and we don't know why but we would all like to know 1985 it crashed and has gone worse by the year from ten a session to not catching 10 in the last 15years and no one asks are esteemed government WHY

My friend those days have gone late sixties early seveties from where you are Dover dungeness up to chisel beach was unbelievable with large cod , anglers mail would tell you what's caught. I fished from Newhaven shore and boat if you were lucky bait used were black lug with said cocktail, now it's dog fish and Whitting good luck I'm eighty one now fill sorry for you guys !!! Bloody french trawlers

What always got to me about fishing Dungeness was the sirens from the power station, every so often they would sound off and you would wonder should you be standing there or would you be glowing on the way home!

I noticed you sounded a bit deflated there bud about same old fishing so why not spice things up i do all types of fishing depends on the seasons for example lure fishing and live baiting in the summer months using sabiki rigs catching hering and smelt and mackerel for live baits then stick one out and catch good size bass while waiting for a bite chucking a lure you keep moving around spots you only need 2 rods back pack and live bait bucket and youll be surprised how successful this is and in winter months pike fishing dead baits and lure fishing and a sneaky trip abroad here and there for more exotic fishing so ... dont be stuck behind your beach casters same old same old mix it up!!! Theres a huge spectrum to fishing huge wild carp on old rivers ( guildford) massive pike (Hampton court thames) massive river barbel hampshire avon sea trout Christchurch even Irish salmon portland sherry just to name a few good luck get that new van out there and mix it up buddy!!!!

There are very few cod anywhere anymore hence the reason the supermarkets and chippy's are selling pollack etc in its place, it's been completely OVERFISHED for years, then it will be other fish eradicated until nothing will be left in the see, all down to GREED.
