I love Compass, but it hits so much harder for me during the fight. Considering everything that happens during/after the final phase of the fight, the lyrics coming in with “I wanted blood, I wanted black and white, your evils predefined” while she makes that final decision just completely blows me away. God I loved this canto.

Ga1ahad and scientific witchery is truly a great song, and also part of a story line of multiple songs over multiple albums. Songs like DK, Excalibur and Sl0t also tell of their tale or tales directly related to it. Iirc there were 7 songs in total that relate to the saga of ga1ahad

The Executioner and Her Way of Life ( *spoilers ahead* ) is an upper-mid story with some of the best fantasy ideas I've seen in Japanese writing. It is technically an isekai (transported to another world), but think about how that would normally go - an OP protagonist gets transported, they massively change the world around them with their great powers. Now introduce many such people, coming to a world regularly. Not a very peaceful time, is it? So they kill them, and kill them fast. Half of the first episode is told from the perspective of a typical jp mc, gets summoned, thrown out because his power level is null, gets the girl, she tells him his power is to nullify reality, he gets excited, wants to take revenge, and then the real protagonist (the girl) stabs him. It's actually a yuri story, with the Executioner trying to kill an isekaied girl that is immortal due to time powers and loves our protagonist. In time, she realizes that maybe stabbing people is not an answer to everything and that this target looks kinda cute. Besides that, the story introduces a great magic system, with both arcane-punk and church aesthetics, a deeper metaphysical understanding of it and its relation to the isekai powers, as well as a whole set of massive cataclysmic events, that happened because some people were not stabbed fast enough. The protagonist herself went through a lesser version of such an event, Blanching - all of her memories and personality got turned to white before she got saved. As you can assume, the saving involved a lot of stabbing people from our world. As in any Mili song you can notice many references to the events I described from the story. Some can even try to decipher the secret language. Something I an quite sure of is for example "flare-esta", which probably means "disciple of Flare" or "Flare's successor". Considering how much effort Cassie Wei puts into her lyrics I refuse to believe that section doesn't have a direct translation.

@@georgieegames for a bit of context for paper bouquets, not really spoilers since this is the premise of the show, the executioner started to care about the target she has to kill as the target was actually somewhat immortal due to their ability.

I really like how the music usually always has the more literal story telling aspect, but also you can listen to it without the context and still gets the themes or ideas of the song. I love compass though I do kinda wish it had the heartbeat as an actual sound in the song. If you do another Mili video I’d like to see your reaction to Skin-Deep Comedy (even though I have no idea what it was made for, I just really like this song) or Gunners in the Rain.

"Compass" is so good, immediately fell in love with it as soon as I heard the song. But my favorite has to be "Birthday Kid"
@ubium6184 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I had interpreted the 'when it snapped, my compass was swallowed by the sea' as referring to Ish's relationship with Queequeg and the effects that her loss had on Ish, especially since all of Ish's post-boat plans revolved around Queequeg. There's even a series of lines during the dungeon where Ish and Queequeg overtly refer to the relationship between them as a rope that had snapped, which is where my brain immediately jumped to. I also really like your interpretation that the line about cursing the relationship is referring to Ahab - I originally thought it was angst about ish/quee, but this reading makes a lot more sense. Been bopping to Galahad lately too, but never thought about the story behind it before. Thank you for these kinds of videos!
@Birthday888 Жыл бұрын
I would argue that the compass in that line is moreso referring to Ahab, rather than Queequeg. Queequeg was her rope, her lifeline, the thing she could rely on time and time again to stop her from falling overboard and saving her life. But the ship's "compass" was always Ahab, because she was the one determining their course and the thing that the rest of the crew followed without question. I would say the line is more about how Ishmael losing Queequeg finally made her realize how far gone Ahab was. Which is why the line immediately following is about Ishmael cursing the relationship between her and Ahab.

My favourite Mili song is "Mortal with You" which is the anime ending for Vermillion In Gold The anime is fanservice heavy, but the story is actually really good. And the full length song used in the ending is based on the ongoing thoughts and emotions of the main female character of the series, Vermeil. Her feelings, wants, hopes, regrets. Whilst also intertwining with the actual progression of the story itself. All within a song It's honestly beautiful. Also, tbf, a lot of the music from that anime is great. Some of the songs from the OST (by Ken Ito) are some of my favourite OST songs fullstop: - 大いなる優しさ (My favourite OST song) - 気鬱 - プラチナスクエア - 悪魔の誘い
@dazenith451711 ай бұрын
Yes. Mortal with You is so beautiful and amazingly, heartbreakingly so, tells the story of Vermeil's life through the lyrics. It's rather sad how little recognition it has compared to many other Mili's songs.
