Are These the BEST TRINI DOUBLES in Florida?

I’ve been away from Trinidad and Tobago for a while now, and I had a craving for some doubles! Come with me as I head to a Miami-area Trini restaurant with a friend so she can try doubles for the first time!
Doubles are a staple in Trinidad and Tobago. They consist of a fried, doughy flatbread called bara, which they top with chana (chickpeas), along with various chutneys and sauces like tamarind and chadon beni. Most doubles are vegetarian, but some variations add meat as well! My friend Diana has never tried them before, so I decided to bring her along!

Born and lived in Trinidad for 9 yrs and grew up in Broward. Tabanka is my absolute favorite Trini place in South Florida (in all of Florida actually). The ambiance and atmosphere makes me feel like I'm home. The service is great and the owners are so friendly. Oh David, it's always "curry goat" and dahlpourie. Love that you enjoy our culture.

For me Bake/N/Shark and Doubles are the best among Trini street foods.....And we all know David doubles are your all time fav and esp with your hot sauce I can only imagine the taste. Good Sunday morning David. I loved this video. Diana seemed to be a little dainty in eating, she needed to really dig in. She is very nice though, and willing to try. Glad she loved the food. The bara that you made was just the right size (small) for Melina and Siena 🤗. That was a no-bite bara. Very delicious food. My mouth is watering right now. Happy to see Nathan enjoying it too. Sorrel is a flower also known as hibiscus of a plant family. It's very good for high blood pressure, especially if you drink it as a tea. Homemade drinks and ice cream are the best. When you put alcohol in ice cream, it doesn't freeze as hard as the regular ice creams, so I was not surprised that her ice cream wasn't frozen like the coconut ice cream. In Trinidad we say "curry" first, (slang), but it should actually be "curried" whatever the dish is. I was happy to hear that she would go back. Very nice of her. Anyway, I have to go back to my Sunday cooking: callalloo, stewed chicken with red beans, rice, mashed plantain (like foofoo), broccoli salad and mac pie. So David, enjoy your Sunday and whatever you and your family are having for lunch/dinner, like you called it "linner" in the Ghana video. LoL, I remembered. Curry shrimp, curry goat, curry beef, curry chicken etc Here’s why: Curry is the spice that is used to marinate or infuse the curry spices and flavor into your protein of choice so eg curry goat is a dish in which the goat protein is infused with the flavor of the curry spices. Goat curry would suggest you’re infusing goat flavor into the curry which is silly 😝 In curry goat, curry is the adjective which describes or define what is being done to the noun (goat) Hope this helps 😅

David you keep asking if its curry first or after, this is like asking a pakistani if he's indian, so being trini it will always and forever be curry first. Glad you love our food bro. I was to tell you a while now i feel you eating doubles wrong, how i eat it is different in the sense that i use the first bara and mix up the channa and the sauces on the next, to me mixing it up allows the spread to be consistent so now you can use the same first bara and take up like you usually do and eat, in this way the second bara has channa and sauces incorporated together, what i always see you doing is taking the first bara and grabbing the channa and sauces from the second, the sauces are always on top the channa so when you grab some channa the chances is that most of the sauces will be in this first bara as well, this means the second bara would only have channa and no sauces, hope you understand my way of eating it. I feel whoever show you how to eat it the first time didnt do you justice and i feel i know who it is. Try it one day and see if it makes any different to you.
