Nice video! I think my favorite blade shape is the reverse tanto/sheepsfoot so the vosteed telarasis and the bestech slasher. The vosteed thornton also hits that button for me! And last but not least the vanguard sheepdog is a monster! And i will say it everytime you show it but that Grampus is my favorite!! Im going to have to break down and buy that sucker lol!

I show it a lot for a reason! I saved it towards the end for a reason. It's such a good overall knife! I'm really glad you liked the video!!

Great video Chris! All such good knives I love finding a budget knife that end up being amazing. One of the more descent good finds for me was a knafs lander. I bought one for my daughter and almost took it back lol. I could t stop playing with it. They are great little knives and I thinking paid 50 for it. Worth much more in my opinion.

You got a Lander??? Are they made well??? I really want a Lander 2, but I know that you have to order decent scales for it if you want anything fancy. I want one, though. I also want a knafs fixie.

Spyderco Native 5!! I’m on my 4th version (well as soon as it ship). I was so shocked at how much I loved that knife when I initially got one. It’s just a perfect EDC, personal opinion of course. But at the true roots of “EDC” it doesn’t everything for my M-F chores, and most weekends. Certainly it’s not a hunting knife or chop wood knife….but everything else,,,perfect!

There is no doubt that the Native 5 is one of Spydercos' many awesome knives! That's cool, that you are on your 4th!

33:49 I probably have many more answers to this question, but I’ll just give one for now. A knife that really surprised me in a meaningful way is the Asher Spiro Wharnie, with CPM 20CV and blue carbon fiber. Before picking it up, I had purchased two other Asher Spiros, both with drop points, both in silver carbon fiber, but the first one was in Bohler M390, and the second one was in CPM S90V and had a new “backspacer” design made out of gray G10 that gave off a kind of “integral” look, instead of the typical barrel spacers that the first one has. Now I had originally bought this third Spiro just because it had these beautiful blue CF scales, and my original intention was to take the Wharncliffe blade that came on it, and swap it with one of the drop point blades, making my ideal knife. But once I got the blue wharnie Spiro in hand I realized quickly that this was something different! The fact that the blade was a wharnie allowed for the hole in the blade to stick up out of the scales much higher than on the drop points. This made reverse flicking and thumb flicking an absolute dream! It immediately became one of my favorite knives and I scrapped the plans for switching the blades out just for the blue CF scales like I had originally intended. The thought had never crossed my mind that I might actually prefer the wharnie’s action to that of the drop point’s. I still most definitely prefer the looks of the drop point Spiros but that wharnie Spiro really shocked me! And although the blade shape doesn’t really do it for me, especially in the closed position, compared with the drop point, in most use cases, and definitely during playtime, it is just way too good to justify Frankenstein’ing together the pieces I expected to like the most into something that I basically already have, but just in blue carbon fiber. So I’ve left them all in their original configurations and I’m really happy that I got the blue Spiro, even if it was for the wrong reasons. I’m glad that I’m enjoying it, but maybe one day I’ll have to go ahead and try getting another one just so I can make good on my plan of having a blue carbon fiber drop point!

That's an awesome story! Thank you for sharing! That blue is gorgeous!!! It's one of the prettiest CF I have seen. I want an Ashir Nomad in Drop point!!! They also make a really sweet fixie!!! You have excellent taste, friend. They really price their stuff well, too. It's not astronomical in price, so more people can own them. I love how something like a knife and the small details like how easy the hole can make flipping it can make you totally change your mind. It forces you to look at things differently and consider them in ways you haven't before. That's the pt of my 3 knife challenges. People sometimes don't realize that the goal of those is to make us consider knives we don't have, have never used, or possibly don't like.

I have been surprised with so many knives since I started seriously collecting. As I have gone deeper down this rabbit hole, the things that impressed have evolved. When I finally got a Hinderer XM-18, I was blown away at a different level. There was so much hype in my mind, and it surpassed my hopes and expectations. So comfortable in my hand that it feels like an extension of my body. The construction is so solid, but it is well balanced, so you don't feel the weight in a bad way. It is very expensive so I am glad that it did not disappoint.

Kudos on changing up the gaw! I know you were trying to be as fair as possible while also making it fun, interesting, entertaining, and different, but I think what you’re doing this go-‘round is better. So thank you for that! I’m not gonna lie, I would be stoked to win! I also love the idea of going to ANY knife related place to spend it at. Personally, my immediate thought was going to bladebinge, if I were so lucky! This might sound stupid, but I just thought of this.. maybe as an idea for a video, you could try your own hand at what would you get for $200(or any other budget you prefer, just thought $200 made the most sense in this context) at bladebinge or whatever place you want. I just thought bladebinge because if you know what you’re doing, you can really get the biggest bang for your buck, especially nowadays. I dunno, just thought it might be a fun video idea.. or might give the future winner some great ideas on how to spend their winnings. Thanks Chris! Take care!
@TheUnprofessionalDad22 күн бұрын
That is an excellent idea!!! Seriously!!! I'm always trying to find knives to order and try out. This way, I could make a video showing my thought process. It may even help others who are new to knife collecting to see how i would prioritize the knives and what I would want most if I only had $200 to spend. Thank you for that idea! I'm glad that everyone likes the new parameters of the contest. You're right, I was trying to be as fair as I could be, but I just didn't know what I was doing. I'm so new to all of this i was intimidated by the random generators and different tech options. This time around, it's gonna be so much better!!! I'm stoked for it!!!

I was surprised as to how much I like the Civivi mini praxis. You would want to go for the full size. Bit I find myself carrying that alot. Snappy flipper, drops shut liner lock. I'm going to look into the spyderco. I have seen videos of people de assisting the layup. Even saw a blade hq video of a kershaw employee saying it could be done. I bet the action on opening is lagging tho. May have to really follow through with the flipper. I'm glad you have a neurohaptic coming in. Those things look cool. The vault is seriously on my list. I love the look of that knife. Hope your day is great my friend and I will catch you on the next one.
@TheUnprofessionalDad22 күн бұрын
Hey! I have a full size Praxis and its got brass looking liners and a greenish g10. It's gorgeous! It was the first knife I gave to Katelin so she could have something. She saw it and flipped for it. I'm gonna be honest, that layup is the only assisted knife that I'd be fine with if it remained assisted. I'd switch most of them, but I'd be too afraid it would mess up the action, just like you said. It's such a good knife!! Check out the Vault, if you can. You will love it!!! Oh, I'm emailing you shortly. Finally got an answer on the civivi.

@TheUnprofessionalDad I went to Fin Feather Fur to see the knives that you're talking about. I bought a Buck 327. I couldn't pass it up for $19.99. I gave it to my Daughter and she likes it. That might influence somebody's decision with all the other information that you have. I respect to shout out. Those who know carry Spyderco. Respect. Lastly, I bought an Ozark trail with D2 steel. $10. I GOT 10 AND GAVE them away to friends. Don't worry about the laundry machine, get it done.

So I wanted to just list the knives that shocked me with how good they were. Oh, and I mentioned you in the video! Lol. Watch it again, and listen around the Spyderco section.

What disappointed you about the deka and how much did you pay for it?
@TheUnprofessionalDad22 күн бұрын
That's a great question. Let me say first that i love Hogue! They make excellent knives and are a great brand. Also, I've seen the Deka with aftermarket scales, and it was pretty dang cool. I paid $140-$150 for mine with Magnacut. I liked the blade shape and geometry a lot. Of course, I liked Magnacut. What I dislike about it is the handle. It feels cheap and thin. It reminds me of a larger Buck Bantum with the way it feels. I know that it's a good knife and won't break easily, but it feels like it will. Im a fan of thicker, sturdy knives, and I don't really care for the lightweight designs. I'm not saying it's a bad knife, by any means. I just didn't expect that thin lightweight plastic handle on a knife that basically costs $150.
@levelonup031422 күн бұрын
@@TheUnprofessionalDadyeah I think that’s a common consensus, if you get a Deka, be prepared to get some Original Goat scales, or something equivalent, for it. Kinda unfortunate to get a new knife and feel like you immediately need to swap scales just to get it to where it probably should have came like from factory. But in the opposite hand, it probably would no longer be a $150 knife from factory.. it would almost certainly cost more. But I guess this is a great example for doing a bunch of research before purchasing. I know there’s probably some buyers who didn’t, couldn’t, or flat don’t have time to research everything properly. There’s a lot of ways of looking at this.. too many angles to get into here, right now.
