Hey Tyler, The DD Tarp 3x3 at 29:58 is the sort of thing used by every soldier in British Army, it's also known as a "Basha" it can be used to make a shelter, as a normal tarp and if it's taped in a certain way it can be used as an emergency stretcher great bit of kit.

I mean he's kinda right. It's one of the reasons why the internet was invented. To gain knowledge faster and quicker. It completely changed the way people found and learnt things. If people in the 19th century had the internet I think it's pretty obvious the would also prefer that over any book.
@sgl7007
@sgl7007 2 жыл бұрын
@@Thurston_Howell_III Yes and no. For something like "how to plant crops", sure googling is going to be much faster and easier than carrying a 700 page book around and reading it. But like the survival booklet just before the gardening book, what if you're out in the woods or in the middle of some disaster situation, or the power is out? maybe your phone is dead. Maybe the internet is out. youtube isn't always going to be available. I've got gigs of pdfs full of useful information, but Ive also got shelves full of dead tree just in case
@Thurston_Howell_III
@Thurston_Howell_III 2 жыл бұрын
@@sgl7007 I could be wrong but I don't think the purpose of these books is to wait to read them till the last second when a apocalypse just started or going camping in the middle of nowhere. You would research beforehand. But maybe if a apocalypse does happen or more likely a big disaster near you, then it would shine. But as of right now books are outdated, but if a apocalypse did happen, then it would be one of the only was to learn things. Computers would probably still exist and may have downloaded stuff that could be useful.
@sgl7007
@sgl7007 2 жыл бұрын
@@Thurston_Howell_III Well ideally you'd want to research something in advance, but memory retention fades over time for things you're not exposed to on a regular basis, so you'd probably want to reread something when its needed, and again the internets not always going to be available in an every situation. Of course books that come in battleboxes are going to be geared towards preppers, who by nature stash stuff away just in case. I'll agree that in the current, modern day, books aren't the most efficient or useful means of acquiring knowledge, but books are a great way to keep easily accessable information that you might need somewhere down the line. just in case

I have e-readers and tablets LOADED with survival books and reference books. One of them I have is Forest Mimm's Getting Started in Electronics by Radio Shack Press. I also own the physical version of that book. I prefer the physical since it's 100x quicker to flip through pages, process the information being flipped to see if you're getting close to the section you need. Than it is trying to discern tiny thumbnails with the page layout or imitating flipping pages on a Tablet/E-Reader.

As a combat medic that is some cheaply made pressure bandage. Pressure bandages are used to stop non arterial bleeding and keep wounds covered. I see the clear plastic making an absolute mess and if it’s decent wrap it will cut off circulation where you don’t want it to. Could use the clear plastic as a chest seal for a punctured lung I would say though. Israeli bandages/compression bandages are pretty cheap don’t use that atrocious thing.

The bandage is for chest and abdominal wounds... Helps to seal an open wound to the chest cavity which could involve a collapsed or punctured lung... The abundance of tape is to be able to wrap completely around the body

I have no idea how much one of these Battle Boxes goes for monetarily, however, I am guessing from what I observed from the contents of the eight boxes that COST FAR EXCEEDS CONTAINED VALUE! Thank you so very much Tyler for saving me the cost of a Battle Box subscription. Without a doubt I know one would be significantly better off (both money and quality wise) with merely a list of "tactical and survival" items to wit employing Tyler's "no books or reading" policy will result in acquiring said items being cheaper with preferred quality and only desired items.

Hunting knives like that one you got shouldn't be too sharp. The edge on a razor-sharp knife would roll or chip if you tried to use it on light brush, animal hide, or bone, all things you might encounter with a hunting knife.
@bradmiles1984
@bradmiles1984 2 жыл бұрын
In terms of hunting knives it depends in terms of skinning and things. There are knives that have swap out scalpel blades which are really good at cutting thru like deer hide. Generally you would pair it up with a hatchet for getting thru the bones like in the pelvis if quartering an animal.
