Was I the only one who thought that Marceline’s song at first wasn’t about her DISTASTE for Bubblegum, but about her past relationship with bubblegum? “I’m gonna bury you in the ground, I’m gonna bury you with my sound, I’m gonna drink the red from your pretty pink face” The way the words are sung are with a POSITIVE and LOVING tone, and Marceline even shyly smiles when singing it We’ve come to know throughout the series that “burying each other in the ground” is something said with love and affection between the two. Also Bubblegum doesn’t say “that’s mean” she says “that’s distasteful” as in “these are feelings that shouldn’t be expressed” To which Marceline says “or do you just not like ME” It isn’t a hate song. It’s a love song.

The finale shows that they kiss. But was this kiss one of lustful love or comradery? We see a close friendship between the two characters but no lustful intentions behind this friendship. They kissed in the finale because they almost lost one another, not out of lust. To say that they are lesbian from a single kiss and small bits of evidence is a weak argument, even if Pendleton said that they dated in the past. The same arguments can be made that they just had a close relationship. There is no need for PB and Marceline to be gay, it only seems as if they are trying to appeal to a certain demographic. I do not believe they are gay, for all the points made in this video can also apply to a close friendship. If the show does not explicitly say they are lesbian, then it cannot be reasonably argued that they are gay, for there is not enough evidence supporting that they are gay compared to if they are just close friends. They may have had closing feelings in the past, but those feelings could have hardened into a form of respect and companionship for one another. P.S. After checking Wikipedia, Olivia Olson said that they used to date on a panel, but later tweeted that what she says on panels may not always be true. She later deleted that tweet, so it is uncertain to know if they are truly in a lustful relationship or a relationship of endearment.
