You should definitely check out Ruby Tuesday, perhaps the greatest psychedelic era song by the Stones, featuring beautiful, fluttering recorder riffs by Brian Jones. Also, a band called The Left Banke did some wonderful, baroque pop during this era. Check out Pretty Ballerina and Walk Away, Renee.

Ruby Tuesday, Backstreet Girl, Lady Jane... So many good songs by the Stones. And the whole album that She's A Rainbow is from (Their Satanic Majesties Request) has a definite hippy vibe. I think it was the Stones' answer to The Beatles' Sgt Pepper. Very trippy...

Three years ago my daughter chose “She’s a Rainbow” for her introduction song for her high school homecoming court entrance introduction!! Amber you react how I react after hearing this song a thousand times!! Your intuition is incredibly spot on!!! As 1970’s hippies how Amber is dancing is exactly how we we’re dancing in The 70’s!! Side note my 20yr old hippie daughter dances the same way as she drives off in her VW Beetle!!!

My father used to pick me up to hang out with him, or just spend time with him doing errands. I wasn't a fan of most of the music he had, so one CD I did enjoy was the Rolling Stones greatest hits, and She's a Rainbow was the first track on it. I get misty eyed every time I hear this song, thinking about what I wouldn't give to have another one of those rides again.

I hadn’t heard this song before and I wouldn’t have pegged it as a Rolling Stones song. The keyboard intrigued me. Playful and light, almost childish. But then it takes on a second theme. Perhaps it was two instruments instead of one.

"Dandelion" by the Rolling Stones has a similar vibe as this one. Both are great child-like songs from their psychedelic era of 1967. Their music of this period drifted far from their Chuck Berry/Chicago blues roots but this was a time of experimentation of music, culture and substances and both artist and audience were freaking out together as the 60's rolled on. Groovy man!

It's from 1967 so it is definitely hippie-psychedelic, right from one of the biggest years of the hippie era. Early Pink Floyd from the same time actually sounded really similar to this. Try their "See Emily Play" to hear it. There was no official video to this song (songs didn't typically come out with videos until the eighties), so this was probably put together much later by some fan. The people in it don't look like they're really from 1967 or even the sixties but like people from a much later decade dressed up to look like they're from the sixties, at least for a lot of the images anyway.

Members of The Beatles and The Stones were good friends, and John and Paul visited them during The Stones' first recording session. Mick was complaining that they didn't have a hit yet, so John and Paul said to give them a few minutes. 30 minutes later, the two Beatles returned with the lyrics, and general tune, to The Stones' first hit song. Mick and the boys were so stunned by what happened, it inspired them to start writing their own songs. And the rest is history! I love The Stones, but when comes to being influential in music and by sales alone, no musical artists beat The Beatles. They have sold over 1.5 billion records and hundreds of millions of albums. More than anyone, ever. Love them or hate them, The Beatles rule over all of music. The music industry doesn't even include them in album charts anymore, because they usually outsell everyone, every year, even these days. Heck, their greatest hits CD, 1, sold over 30 million copies, more than most artists sell their entire career.

@@MUE4731 and then there's the most blatant rip-off band, just a small quote for ya. John Bonham, for example, transformed the drum beat from Little Richard’s “Keep a Knockin'” into the motor behind “Rock & Roll.” For better and worse, beats aren’t protected by copyright, while melodies and lyrics are - which is why so many songwriters have sued the band. As with most aspects of their career, Led Zeppelin seemed to operate on the principle that it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

The Rolling Stones definitely get the award for longevity. One of the earliest modern rock bands, they were big in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. As for who is the best, it would have to be between the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, with a Hall of Fame full of honorable mentions. Virtually every band cites the Beatles and Led Zeppelin as influences, and a high percentage of the songs on their albums are hits.

I Love "She's A Rainbow" it fills this old hippy's heart. A tune I love to hear often. It was played, very loudly at a friend's funeral, she was a lovely hippy lady, & nearly always wore rainbow clothing. "Their Satanic Majesties Request" was the Stones answer to "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" & what a superb trippy albums it is..

Love this song, and if you're looking for great Rolling Stone ballads, check out "Ruby Tuesday" and "As Tears Go By". Others have suggested Left Banke's "Walk Away, Renee" (so great) and "Pretty Ballerina" (must hear, and definitely check out Alice Cooper's version of "Pretty Ballerina" as well.) If you're looking for something a little more from the Rolling Stones, maybe take a listen to "19th Nervous Breakdown" and "Mother's Little Helper". Might not be their best or most well known songs, but still pretty good

The Beatles were/ are the greatest group of all time, and there was not really much debate at the time. In the original worldwide video performance of "All You Need Is Love" by the Beatles in June 1967, The Rolling Stones, Mick and Keith, were sitting at their feet in the teevee studio like pilgrims at the feet of their almighty gods.

Saying the Stones were pilgrims at the feet of the Beatles gods is a bit like saying Messi had posters of Ronaldo on his wall and learned to play from him. Which band is best depends on your taste. Lots of arguments available to call Beatles the best band of all times. As it also is with Stones. And Zeppelin. And Queen. And Pink Floyd. And Metallica. The Stones copied the Beatles a bit sometimes. Sometimes not as good as Beatles themselves, sometimes better. But both bands def had their style and creative brilliance. Lots of great songs. Best band? The band that you/I/he/she finds the best. Beatles are insanely good at their best, not that good in every song. Same as Stones. None of them are "Definitely the best band ever" by any definition other than taste.

This is from their album "Their Satanic Majesties Request" which was supposed to be The Stones version of "Sgt. Pepper", but due to Mick Jagger and Brian Jones' drug trials it took awhile for the album to come out. It was originally titled "Her Satanic Majesty's Request" but the censors said it was disrespectful of the Queen. The only other song from this album that gets any play/reaction is "2000 Light-Years from Home". Other psychedelia from them is "Child of the Moon", "We Love You", and "Ruby Tuesday". All good songs.

You should react to a few songs from their masterpiece album, "Exile On Main St."! Songs like 'Rocks Off', 'All Down the Line', and 'Stop Breaking Down' are perfect songs to listen too. Fun fact: In 1972, the Stones were literally exiled from the UK for "tax exile" and got screwed over by record label ABKCO, thus fleeing to the country of France where they recorded half of the albums music in the city of Nellcôte, France. The album is very diverse in many genres of music from Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, some Psychedelia music and Gospel. Although it received mixed reviews at it's time, "Exile..." would be voted at 14th of the 500 Greatest Albums by Rolling Stone magazine! It's also my favorite album of theirs so I hope you check it out!
