Their best psychedelic track would be "2000 Light Years From Home". "Child Of The Moon" didn't make it on the album but was used as the B side to "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Great track.

When the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper it was the first "concept album". Satanic Majesties Request was the Stones counterpart to it. It is so unique and different for them and is still my favorite Stones album. The album cover even had a 3D hologram. In 1967!

The Stones' psychedelic period was tremendous, definitely need to hear 2000 Light Years From Home, it's utterly amazing! Other songs from this period: We Love You, Dandelion, The Lantern, Sing This All Together. Nicky Hopkins and Ian Stewart both played keyboards on most of The Stones' classic hits. Both are incredible musicians!

Nice reaction video, Shawn! Since 1969, the Rolling Stones have been called "the greatest rock and roll band in the world". Because they are. In an interview in 2009, Bob Dylan showed his appreciation for this incredible band: "The Rolling Stones are truly the greatest rock and roll band in the world and always will be. The last too. Everything that came after them, metal, rap, punk, new wave, pop-rock, you name it... you can trace it all back to the Rolling Stones. They were the first and the last and no one's ever done it better." Bob Dylan ___________________________ The period from 1966 to 1967 was the Stones pop rock era. Guitarist Keith Richards was the driving creative force during their first decade and he was especially influenced by the Beatles. The most essential Stones songs during their pop / psychedelic phase are: Paint it Black Mother's Little Helper Under My Thumb Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby? Ruby Tuesday Let's Spend the Night Together We Love You Dandelion 2000 Light Years from Home She's a Rainbow 🎹 Nicky Hopkins began his 13 year long relationship with the Stones during this period, and he contributed greatly to their songs. He was arguably the greatest session pianist in rock during the sixties and much of the seventies, and he made music with John, George, Ringo, the Who and the Steve Miller Band. As much as you love great piano playing, Shawn, some standout Nicky Hopkins performances on Stones songs from 1967 to 1980 are: We Love You She's a Rainbow Sympathy for the Devil Jigsaw Puzzle Salt of the Earth Monkey Man Loving Cup Rocks Off Rip This Joint Let it Loose Shine a Light Coming Down Again Angie I hope you'll dive deep into the Stones music, and they've had 3 distinctly different lineups. It would be wise to first explore the Brian Jones era from 1962 to 1969. Ater that, there's their amazing peak period from 1969 to 1974, when blues guitarist Mick Taylor replaced Jones. Then there's their punk, soul and funk music influenced era from 1975 to 1993 when guitarist Ron Wood replaced Taylor. There's so many great Stones songs for you to enjoy❗

Nicky Hopkins played the piano. He was a fantastic keyboardist who played with many of the biggest bands of the era, especially the Stones in their prime. My other favorite of his Jealous guy by John Lennon. If you haven't checked out Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Gimme Shelter, Sweet Virginia, or Moonlight Mile, I highly recommend them.

I remember buying this when the album first came out. I liked several of the song on it and this was one of them. However, I noticed the word were louder and clearer whenever I heard it on the radio. I was curious enough to buy a copy of the single, and sure enough, the words were louder and clearer. The mix was much better on the mono single than it was one the stereo LP album. I guessed it was from the same tape as the mixed master for the mono LP album, but I never bought a second LP to actually compare them. It was the early days of stereo and there were lot's of albums at the time that sounded better in the mono releases than the stereo. I remember many complained about the early stereo albums from the Beatles because they would have all the instruments on one side and the voices on the other. I didn't mind that too much, because it made it easier to pick out the guitar part when I was learning a song or the vocals if we were learning harmony parts. You could basically turn each on and off by turning on side or the other down! Anyway, I liked this album when it came out, though Stones fans were fairly divided on it. Some I think were afraid it might lead to them straying further from their blues and rock roots.

The Stones are by far my favorite band (my first album was Hot Rocks when I was 9) but this album does nothing for me. What comes next however is the best ever in rock history IMO. In addition to Their Satanic Majesties Request, their psychedelic album, they put out a pop album about the same time called Between the Buttons. Like here, the Brian Jones influence is at its strongest in that album. Some of their prettiest songs were recorded back then but the Stones include one or two truly beautiful songs on IMHO every album. Moonlight Mile and Winter and Waiting on a Friend come to mind as really beautiful and also from their most kickass years. Even though for pure loveliness it's hard to beat She's a Rainbow, those songs come close.
