It was interesting to see the Tip Shops, it's a good idea. I've always thought it was such a shame and waste for good things to be thrown away

No, the shame is that there’s people out there who would rather dump it then give it to charity 🤯

Our tip shop is great, always amazed at what generous people give away to charity and how much other folks drive by and chuck it all in the skips….

It's great that some tips do this; hate seeing good stuff being thrown away every time I visit! Prompted me to look for local ones and have found a few not too far away. Would be good to include on Thrift Map!

I picked up a zebra printer for £3 at mine. Then a 2nd visit, two stereo units for £5 each. One sold for £40, the other for £35. I love my tip shops (I have access to 2). Oh, and an Ikea clock for £45 that cost £1

My local is the Harford one in Norwich, they are more expensive, they look most stuff up on E-bay and price high, they were trying to sell an old bell for £100 for the last few months and it's right next to the car boot so most of it is stuff people couldn't sell and then they put it up for probably 10x as much! didn't find anything last time, used to be ok

charity shops should have these prices would mean rotation of stock and store rooms not being so crammed.

100% I live in Nth London and near to my house there is a lot of charity shops and in some of them the prices are ridiculous and every time i go in them it's the same stock week after week after week. But there is one charity shop, a small charity, great prices on everything and a very fast turnaround resulting in different stock every time i go in there.. I have 15 year old twins and they and their mates are big time into charity shops and the stuff they come home with from this one shop is amazing .All clothes £1.50, books 25p, DVD's 4 for a pound. Amazing shop and amazing staff. I did speak with the manager and the shop raises funds for a cancer charity that has 4 beds. They really are amazing people doing amazing work and i do think the larger charities should take a leaf from their book.

That wood would have been very polluting toxic & possibly illegal to burn in a woodburner .perhaps read george monbiots article in the 6:11 guardian re this subject i think.

Wood burners are very polluting full stop! Just a matter of time before they are banned. We’ve got one (and a N&A style wood store), but hardly use it 😭 When we do use it I’m always coughing the following day 😬

@@jomortimer4248 IME LPG and oil tanks are more common, unless you are talking about traditional coal hearths. I was more thinking about woodburners being banned in central London in order to improve air quality. Even the ‘eco-friendly’ ones look like they aren’t going to meet standards.

I've even been to recycling centers as well....amazing what you pick up there!!! £140 for a bunch of computers...sold 2 of the monitors for over £200 each and only one of the computers for £380 - still have the other computers and one of the monitors sells for over £2000 on eBay! Insane, just paid the price for the metal in them ...about £140.

Funny I found this. I threw away some items at my local tip and now they're on ebay for significant sums (over £100). I know they won't sell for that and i don't really care if they do, i just hope they got into the sellers hands via legitimate means. I cannot see such a shop for my Council Cheshire East.

they got a few down this way.(south wales). i go to the main tip with tons of waste 3-4 times a week, on a weigh bridge and i usually call into the "tip shop, we call it something else. volunteers run it, and i have picked up loads of stuff in the past, for several years. its a pretty busy one, people drop stuff off regular so i find you just gotta be right place right time. .. ps.. seen a large luton at that tip you was at,, shouldn't be in there lol

Different councils have different rules. Where I live a Luton would be acceptable with a permit (cars don’t need one, tho’ bizarrely pedestrians and bicycles do 🙄) Some other counties ALL visits need a permit or pre-booked.
