@imsentinelprime9279 its unrealistic in the sense that he has muscles on top of muscles to make it more aesthetic and pop more in the anime. Dude has like a 10 pack. You can train hard for years, eat properly and never reach that level. You also have to take into account ppls genetics are different, meaning some muscles might look different or bigger. Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger who is one of if not the greatest body builder ever. He's huge but nothing like goku. Aslo goku is natty💪 most guys that are really big are on the juice. Nonetheless, gokus body or any fictional character's body shouldn't be looked as a beauty standard. We should instead admire the lessons goku taught us, to train and never give up to be better stonger versions of ourselves...

Yeah, vast majority of games you see female gaming KZbinrs make their 30 minute essays about almost always involve some kind of "attraction" to it regarding to female characters. Either the playable character is hot or there's bunch of relationship stuff. Women just prefer feminine games over masculine games. Overwatch has massively bigger ratio of men/women compared to other shooters solely because they have sexy female characters that the women want to play as and dress up with skins.

@@JohnDoe-gt3jr The whole Capcom thing is specifically triggered by that one snafu of a prominent streamer using a nude Chun-Li mod or whatever. Regardless about how you feel about it, it's bad publicity, and hurts the image of the company, the franchise, and the character. It doesn't matter "what it's supposed to be like", no amount of explanation or apologies will change how the greater public will react. It'll show up in the headlines, mothers will clutch their pearls and pass out, and then a bunch of kids will be told by their misinformed parents that they aren't allowed to watch EVO this year, because it's FULL OF PORN. The truth doesn't matter. Perception matters. It's 100% why Nintendo shuts down fan games and emulation. It doesn't matter that "that game only crashed and gave a that one kid a seizure because it was a modded version running in an emulator". The press, and uninformed guardians/consumers aren't going to sit there and do their research and be, all, "Oh, it wasn't actually Nintendo's fault". They're going to see video games/a franchise, see something they don't like, and run away with it like a Buzzfeed writer. If their reputation (and, therefore, the investments of their shareholders) weren't on the line, I'm sure there are plenty of Capcom employees that would be down with mods. Things that harm a game's image, and sometimes the community, can and do come in the form of mods, and the games can be fun without mods... so the reasonable/intelligent thing for them to do is say "No mods", and then... let everybody play the games and have fun anyway. Which is not to say I don't love mods. Just saying, I understand where they're coming from. When you finally realize that Capcom, Bamco, Nintendo, etc.'s product/money maker isn't their games, but, instead, *their reputation*, then you'll understand why they do a lot of what they do.

There's also another thing to consider : they're characters in a fictional setting. They're created, not real people. They can be whatever the devs want them to be for the purpose of the game they're working on. For Stellar Blade, they wanted a sexy, fit young looking woman and that's what they designed. For Gears of War, they wanted ultra-macho built man tanks that moved about as deftly as an overweight bulldozer. For Mass Effect, they wanted blue skinned space babes. So they did. And that's okay because that is their vision of what their fictional setting is about. Another example in fantasy that comes up often : elves. In most settings, elves are smaller, graceful and dexterous. They're the peak of beauty and grace. Then you come across some games where elves are presented differently. In FFXIV, elves (aka Elezens) are tall, lanky with long necks and while they retain some kind of elven theme to them, they definitively do not fit the mold most people would think an elf to be. And yet, people don't complain about it (well, giraffe neck jokes aside) and they simply accept it as part of the fictional setting as it is. And heck, having beautiful female (and male) protagonist isn't something that is desired only by men : how many clips you can find of women having the hots for beautiful female characters? Plenty of them... I'd even say that they're often FAR more obvious about it than men are because gawd forbid a man shows he's actually finding a bunch of pixels sexy but a woman can basically drool on camera and no one bats an eye. Those that complain about it? They're the ones caught in the middle, they're the people who are insecure about themselves and feel that they shouldn't be the ones to change but should have everyone else conform to their personal standards. Those people are vocal because they're not willing to do something about themselves and would rather try to make everyone else feel guilty because they don't share their faults. I'm not at a healthy weight myself and I'll never claim to be a "big beautiful man" because I objectively know I am the sole person responsible for that problem but I'm not going out of my way to admonish characters like Leon Kennedy or Marcus Fenix for being buff and/or fit and campaigning them to be fat like I am. I want Leon Kennedy, Nathan Drake or any male protagonist to look good because that could be a goal I can set myself to try and reach if only to improve myself just a bit more. It doesn't make me angry, it gives me motivation. They're fictional characters, they're fantasy, they're heroes, villains and the side characters that we can to embody, fight or help. So if a dev wants to make an objectively fat character be the hero of their game, go ahead... but they'd better not start crying because *other devs* do not do the same; they chose to go that route and the others chose to take other routes. And trying to take existing, established character and changing them just to fit some kind of agenda is wrong and it should definitively be called out. Respect established character for who they are, what they represented back then and what they represent now, good AND bad.

Not matter how we want to look at the intentions behind the people making these discussions, they're all arguing "How should a body look". Sure, there's a different direction as one side wants sexy or "idealized" characters and the others want something more "real", but when the other side gets called out with the fact that the character is indeed based on a living human being, the reality falls into the same issue of people wanting THEIR beauty standards to become THE standards.

The "other side" isnt trying to set a standard (that only scans of models are allowed), but are trying to justify why an attractive character exists, and that the studio/fans arent sexist/never seen a woman/contribute to unrealistic standards. Leaving alone the fact that it seems to be a trend to take a model and then change them to negative reception (which intrinsically seems like a bit of an insult to the actors/actresses, but i digress). I have a theory as to why some women have a aversion to sexy women in games. Its involves aome evolutionary psychology, but i think it makes sense. Men like sexy women because they like women. Duh. But they dont mind sexy men because they see those men as something to aspire to and improve towards, and for the most part, men can improve their looks and attractiveness. You many not be able to reach the ideal, but you can get closer to it. Women on the other hand may have issues with sexy women because women dont really have any natural way to improve their looks beyond makeup. This makes them self conscious about their looks if they srent comfortable with them and a part of their brain comes to see the fictional characters as competition. Its at least part of the reason.

On the topic of Baldur's Gate 3's attractive ass companions... Astarion. Yes, we all know he's BG3's poster pretty boy, a token sexy vampire, but what I find fascinating is that his character design really is very important to his actual character. Him being sexy is integral to his story and influences how he sees himself and how he assumes others see him, and its actually really sad at many points. I dunno, I just really enjoy character designs that tell a story

One thing that keeps getting ignored in the Stellar Blade issue is that it appeals to women too. Of course it's geared more to men but me and my female friends find it attractive as well. We're Asian and she represents our standard of beauty. It's more appealing and reflective of our pop culture than how Western media portray us. Do I feel bad I don't look like that? No, because I'm an adult who can differentiate fantasy from reality. I have my own identity and style; a look that suits me more and that I'm comfortable with. Doesn't mean I can't celebrate another beautiful woman, fictional or otherwise. Thank you for being the voice of reason. I don't get why female characters have become the new political battlefield and I hate both extremes. There is space for everyone and I'm sure we'll all find a character to nut to. PS: I literally went "aww thank you" when you said we look good without makeup ❤

You are right. I have heard multiple times from girls how they like and enjoy attractive characters as well, and btw there are studies that suggest that as well, and i also think that more women who play games should voice their opinions it would make things more transparent. But i never heard anyone reminding people about this important and obvious fact, that it's a Korean game and Korean culture and it doesn't have to reflect any of the Western bs. I feel like there's an "Americans think there's no world outside US" meme somewhere in here. "Western bs" started to creep in into Japanese mainstream culture and it's not a pretty sight. I can only hope that Koreans and Chinese will gatekeep better, there's a lot of beauty in unique and distinct cultures (and btw that's how diversity they claim they value so much looks and works) and it would be a shame to loose it to a gray androgynous swamp that Western culture has largely become.
