"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." This is where feminism was fifty years ago, do we think the children of that generation are going to value and admire masculinity?

So refreshing to hear a wide ranging discussion like this.

When I was in college in the mid-to-late '80s, college girls were already degrading men. It was palpable, you experienced it every day.

I think they always have, only before social safety nets their sniping was exposed as they began to realise they needed men. Look at Jane Austin, I believe her appeal for women today (and women of the early 1800s) is that Austin's heroines escape the impositions of economic necessity without compromising their desire to be independent of men.

They were fed this stuff in their classes. I think you saw a this most often in certain schools and with certain majors.

@@barrydworak I attended one of the most liberal liberal arts colleges in the Northeast, and it was bad. I remember anytime women got wind of a small group of men getting together to do something guys do, all the women had the exact same reaction, revealing that it was programmed into them --- they would smirk, roll their eyes, and say in an infantilizing, demeaning tone, "That silly male bonding stuff." Then at some other time your girlfriend would tall you how women have a need to spend a Saturday night alone with their female friends to "bond".

@HomeAtLast501 self awareness is not a feminine trait, either.

Super conversation. I enjoyed Jenny's calmversation with Benjamin, also. Nice edit on the intro, I appreciate the shift but not abandon of the preeminence of the covid narrative. ❤

Wonderful discussion and always pleased to see the panel yield to the guest of the day. Ms. Leslie reminded me of something... . Masculinity is what asks a man to hold the door open for his date or the elevator door for others Masculinity is what prompts a man to walk on the street side of the sidewalk, so as to be in-between splashed water or items kicked up by cars Masculinity is what tells a man to step in-between his wife, daughter, sister or mother and a threat, regardless how formidable it may be Masculinity is what demands a man jump out of a small boat into a hail of 50mm machine gun fire and storm on to Normandy Beach . Men cannot bridge the gap to be the same emotionally equipped as females. We each have our strengths, but men are being told to do both, so failing at each 😭

My ex-wife had an undergrad in Psychology, and MSW, and a Masters and PhD in Clinical. She is a therapist. She tried to turn me into a young girl. She considered my masculinity to be toxic. And I would say that among Gen X men, I was more of an artist/intellectual/sensitive type --- I was not some Neanderthalean ex-athlete type. This pressure for me to adopt the emotional state of a young girl made our relationship unsustainable. I should add that everything was great during our 3 years of dating, and first 3 years of marriage. It was 6 months after she entered her PhD program that problems started.

Some old paradigm thinking here. It’s far more dynamic than the there’s only two outcomes etc.

I actually wanted to mention a substance some people have been using to reduce their need for alcohol and potentially quit it altogether. Learned about it in this podcast: www.reflector.show/p/how-to-listen-to-episode-1-the-sea I'm not a big fan of trying to address deep-seated issues with medications, but this podcast made me wonder if some addiction isn't more biological than psychological.

College students in certain states are required to take these courses no matter what your major is. So you can’t get away from it by choosing a pragmatic degree. They made it part of the requirements to graduate. So even if you try to actively avoid being indoctrinated, keep your head down and just do the work related to your major, they aren’t satisfied with that and force you to learn the new canon.

At times the perception of escalation in behavior of the target of the assessment of addiction is in fact a confirmation bias of the accuser reinforcing their belief in the addiction of their target. Unpopular opinion I would think…
