I was already planning on getting the Western Digital Black SN850 (WITH) heatsink before it was even announced by Sony that it would be compatible! I'm so happy i was on point with that! And now, seeing that even Mark Cerny approves for this NVME, well i'm completely sure. I know there are even better ones when it comes to speed but i'm already happy with this one, a stable one! I think the FireCuda from Seagate is even faster? And i believe i've seen one that is even faster than the Seagate! I'm going to keep the lid on no matter what!

Coming from a launch PS4 Sony airlines 747, the cooling and engineering in the ps5 is impressive, I like how the M2 slot and disc drive are in their own cases and sealed so no dust can get in, I've played for hours and hours running demon souls and the system is dead silent, I'm interested in seeing if the "dust catchers" on the plastic they showed in the Official PS5 teardown helps to reduce dust build up long term, they said you can vacuum them out

GRAUGEAR Metal Heat Dissipation Cover? Thoughts?
@edwardferry8247

Thank you. At 13.46 you say that with the cover on temperatures rise in the drive housing but mistakenly say off about one minute later in relation to higher system temperature overall. Just thought it important to point out as some people might think it’s beneficial to have it on when in fact you meant to say off in relation to overall system temperature. Sony have the plate on because it’s a consumer product. If gamers want lower temperatures, they will, as you have leave the covers off and install a heatsink on the drive. The system will be fine if you leave it as it is, it’s clearly designed to withstand much higher temperatures over long periods. The PS4 pro you could fry an egg on at times. Thank you again for your good video.
@GearsAndTech
@GearsAndTech 3 жыл бұрын
I meant to say that if you have the cover off you will raise the ambient temp of the air entering the system which will raise the internal temp of the system itself. It could be a negligible amount. But, more heat leaving the m.2 slot, means more heat entering the cooling fan on the way to the rest of the system

@@GearsAndTechIt's a very nice argument, I appreciate the explanation given because, it's very logical if you leave the SSD cache open, the fan will suck and distribute hot air from the SSD.
@RyoSaeba0077
@RyoSaeba0077 Жыл бұрын
You mentioned that the air is being sucked out with the cover ON and that no air will get sucked in, hence no dust. This is physically impossible. There is a horizontal slot and 3 additional screw holes on the bay floor. This is where the air (and dust) will come in from. So instead of getting dust on the fins, you get duct on the underside of the SSD. Given that there's a lot less air moving around, it will result in less dust overall given the same time period. Just my 2 cents.
@GearsAndTech
@GearsAndTech Жыл бұрын
Those screw holes have the circuit board in the way. No air is going in there. On the new ps5 slim there are air slots available to get some flow through
@justinhalen2126
@justinhalen2126 3 жыл бұрын
It’s possible that a lower profile heatsink will allow more heat to be sucked out as there will be air gap at the top where the slits are. Also if your heatsink doesn’t allow the cover to fit. You can make a makeshift cover with heat resistant tape. Don’t use packaging or normal tape.
@GearsAndTech
@GearsAndTech 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Yes, and Yes! I didnt want to get into swapping out the heatsink because I wanted everything to remain equal for these tests except for the cover on, cover off, and cover blocked. Someone that wants to have the cover on 'could' .... swap the cooler for a shorter one - Not recommended. or Use something to build UP the cover space so they end up with that air gap on the top, and seal it in place with heat resistant tape. - More Recommended. Leaving it off is also perfectly OK, as I showed in the test. As long as you clean your system somewhat frequently. Thanks for stopping by!

I haven't seen what the other side of it looks like. If it goes all the way to the surface of the ssd then it seems like the entire point of the negative pressure suckling heat out isn't going to do anything. You also will now raise the intake temp to the rest of the system So you get all the negative side affects I mentioned about having the cover off. And I don't think you get any positives That ribbed part will still get covered in dust and hair and fur and loose the heat dissipation effects

@@GearsAndTech Gamers Nexus showed how hot some of the system ram runs on PS5. Some of it hovers around the 90C mark. Therefore it would make little sense to me to leave that bay cover off and introduce air to the system that’s 5-10 degrees hotter, as it’s flowing over a hot M2 drive. Potentially that could tip that ram over the edge. Your results only showed a 2-3 degree difference with the cover on so I’ll be making sure to get a heatsink that’ll allow for the cover to fit.
@GearsAndTech
@GearsAndTech 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're totally right in that thought process. I wish I had a way to accurately measure the incoming air temp, but there isn't any good way to do it.
