Tessie, you know that I, too, have lived in a quarter of a million dollar home, had brand new cars..got my Doctorate, my husband passed away. I fell up a step and had no health insurance I was changing companies. Let me tell you in the blink of an eye you CAN lose everything. I paralyzed my left leg..knee down but I CAN WALK WITH LEG BRACE AND CANE. I Am living in an apartment at age 63 or 2. I forget!!!lol But by the grace of God I can drive! You don't need a left leg to drive! Lol IM in pain a lot because its nerve damage! Think ear ache..tooth ache..from knee down especially the foot. That's nerve pain but IM working on it daily and believe I will be healed. All I have is Disability and widow benefits. I write articles for extra money. IWOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO LIVE IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL MOBILE HOME ON THAT BEAUTIFUL LAND. Recently I qualified for HUD and believe that there is a place for me with maybe a half an acre. I am trying to spring clean right now. IM very blessed because my apt is like a little house glued to one on each side. I have a big front yard but its a hill. I have enough to start a Victory Garden. No back yard. Last year I grew tons of things on my patio Besides all that I would give everything I do own to have my husband back. Being rich or poor isn't about what you own. Its the quality of your life. Please don't ever think that something like this couldn't happen to you. Anything could happen. You could be sued and lose everything. God can only bless you more when you're grateful for what you've got!🏫🏫🙏🌞🌞❤❤🌻🌸🌿🇺🇸😘

Tessie being rich doesn't mean about money only. You can be rich with faith and love of family and friends. I see you rich in common sense and the love of a good husband. I am rich and happy after a horrible times of a divorce and the widow and fighting Cancer. I'm live in a 1930s two bedrooms and one bath home. Its paid for and it's all mine. I'm rich in peace of mind which is priceless. You and your husband is doing the smart thing because medical insurance doesn't pay for everything. 💕💕💕

I believe everyone, especially women who are stay at home wives and mothers as I was, should know certain things. They should know how to drive, how to bank, how to do the business end of life. I learned this lesson in the first few years of my marriage fifty years ago this year. I already knew those things because I’d been to college and had a checking account and paid bills. But it was driven home to me when the elderly lady next door came screaming for our help. Her husband had keeled over with a heart attack and died. She knew how to do NOTHING other than taking care of her husband and home. She knew nothing about banking or paying bills or anything about handling finances. Life was extremely difficult for her. She not only was grieving but having to learn how to do everything for herself. I knew I never wanted to be that helpless.

It is also true that boys should be raised to fend for themselves in the kitchen and do laundry. They too can be a position where they need to look after themselves. My husband lived on microwave food, McDonalds and kettle chips for years before we were together. He was an overweight and unhealthy 57 year old. Now he's almost 80, back in homesteading, making a living and forced by this bossy wife🤪 to cook a meal every so often! I'm nearly 20 years younger, but have major health issues that may mean he will end up alone again and, if nothing else, I want to be sure he can survive without me if necessary.

That's an awful way to learn a lesson. Thankfully I did most of that. Like Tess I never filed bankruptcy. Each MRI was $15,000. I paid everything but lost everything. Now I feel like I have gained so much in wisdom and knowledge.

Money cant buy happiness. I lost my husband in Nov 2020, Watching you over the years made us realize we wanted to live a simple life. We paid our home , cars, credit cards (and cut them up). all off. We planted a garden, canned, dehydrated, made our on laundry detergent, cleaning, soap all of that stuff. We started a savings then my husband passed I went from a 3 income home down to 1 income. I miss my husband dearly 45 years married I was 15 when we married my life changed but I can make it on my one income because I know how to live simple and how to live on a budget thanks to Tessie. I only have my monthly utilities I use oil lamps most of the time I love them. I hang my laundry it is so very peaceful. I choose the simple life. I'm 64 . God Bless and thank you Tessie

I am where you are Tessie...all of my personal property is paid for and it’s expensive enough paying property taxes, insurance and food. I am happy living this way, very content and for me I feel I am in the Lords will.

My wife and I lived in a 12by 60 used mobile home that was made in 1970s That was our home for 7 years When it was snowing and blowing frost would build up on the inside walls in the hallway It’s all we could afford at the time The Lord has blessed us greatly since then

being poor is being without joy and love.. my 1790 farmhouse has issues, we recycle, I have canned for 45 years, I work fulltime, we burm wood, we drive older vehicles that we paid cash for I am rich, I'm happy, my kids learned a work ethic, and all have good jobs... we were brought up to pay cash or do without... life is an adventure, be you live whatever life you want

I knew we had a lot in common but I didn't realize just how incredibly paralleled our lives are!! I wasn't raised Amish but was raised in an Amish rich town and my adopted mom was friendly with several families, I have many fond memories of going to their homes on Saturdays to buy fresh baked breads, jams, and other goodies and while my mom visited with the mo. There I got to run around and play with the Amish children. I always was fascinated with their lifestyle and wanted to join them for years!! Stay strong Tessie you have a beautiful soul, and while those with money might not be able to imagine being content without it, I feel that we are the truly blessed and rich ones!! I raised 2 children on my own and drew off of my disability because I was diagnosed with N immune deficiency and an autoimmune disorder and both are tearing my body apart, but I manage my half acre homestead complete with chickens and gardens, and our mobile home is in desperate need of some work too. Tessie, I totally get it. My people on my dad’s side were great savers. They lived extremely humbly. No one would have ever known they had savings. My mother was very into spending and buying and it was with credit cards. She never understood my daddy’s family. In her mind why would you live so humbly if you had money for something more? Yet these people were so happy and they never had to worry if an emergency happened. I ended up spending like crazy on credit cards for years like my mom. Finally, I learned the hard way that there is no security in a life like that. I worried about money all the time. We lived paycheck to paycheck and often couldn’t make it to the next paycheck because of my spending. I finally learned. Now I wish I could go back and save all the money I wasted. But I am making good decisions now. Thank goodness I learned in time.

We are not poor we just dont have millions of dollar's. My main priority is to get me and her a small spot of our own. Even just like 2 achers. With a small house on it.. So you are way ahead of the game on that part.. I also feel like we might not have a lot of money but we are rich in love and have each other.. She is my life. Excellent video! Some of the young stay at home moms don’t have a clue as to what may happen to them. In my area, so many men leave their partners or wives even after many years of togetherness. Also, the average age to become a widow is 57/58. In my culture, it is expected that the girls get well educated so they won’t end up in poverty even if they are left alone. Adding frugality to good training/education is a true blessing.

"Living abundantly on less" is a good way to say it...poverty is not a word that comes to mind when I see someone living a simple life. A simple life is healthier and better in so many way that I wouldn't trade it for anything. I feel that being poor has so much more to do with the state of one's heart and levels of gratitude than it does with money. Since struggling as a single parent, I've never had much money but I have never felt poor. I wouldn't trade that for all the money in the world. Congratulations to you for gaining your financial status through your work with KZbin. That is very exciting!

Dave Ramsey's financial freedom classes teach that #1 live below your means #Become debt free #3 have savings so you can live stress free and meet ALL your needs. Taxes, utilities and be able to replace appliances and do home repairs. Interesting how we have wealthy folks who left big tech to live here in the Sierras debt free with lots of money in the bank, and many live in cabins, trailers etc. Yet no one ever asks why have they chosen to live 'poor'. It can be scary to decide to downsize, get rid on tv, and basically live a simpler lifestyle but it can be done, and people who choose to make that change, need encouragement not discouragement.

Tessie, it never fails to amaze me that there are people out there who feel that they're entitled to ask other people the most personal questions -- questions that are, when it comes right down to it, really rude. It makes me wonder who raised these people! God love you; even though you have no obligation to answer these privacy-invading queries, you do. And your answers really make a lot more sense than their questions do, that's for sure. In the Catholic church there has always been a tradition of what's called "voluntary poverty." This is practiced not only by people in convents and monasteries, but also by people living "in the world but not of it." Christ himself practiced voluntary poverty. "Foxes have their dens," but he had no home, no possessions. He told his disciples to carry NO money with them when they went out to preach to all nations. In 21st century America I think Christ and his disciples, if they re-appeared in the flesh, would be stigmatized as "eccentric homeless guys" and scorned. We are so conditioned to buy, buy, buy -- from "fast fashion" to buying new dishes for every season and holiday of the year, to having a car that's never more than two years old to having the newest iPhone. We have no idea how the rest of the world even actually exists -- walking miles to fetch water, having your "shoe closet" consist of one pair of flip-flops, going through pregnancies with zero pre-natal care, etc. Then on the other end of the spectrum, we have people who live in incredible wealth and are still miserable to the point of feeling suicidal, as the latest news about the royal family shows us. I'm really hoping that Americans can take some time in 2021 to remember this one sentence: "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into paradise."

It is easy to start buying, buying, buying when there is a little money to spend. Commerce is what our economy is based on. But there is a time when all you need is food, clothing and shelter. In these times those are expensive things. It is best to keep things simple and manageable to be able to take care of yourself.

Thank you, Tessie. It is true your life can change with the blink of an eye; the last eighteen years of my life has been living proof of that. But I think "rich" or "poor" can be a state of mind, not just your bank account balance. When I fell and smashed my hip to pieces in 2010, my mindset was "poor me, I will never walk normally again" (I have a slight limp to this day but it is no big deal). At the time, my uncle very bluntly told me that "You can walk without a cane, and don't be ungrateful - you have medical insurance to pay the bills." My neighbor down the street got aggravated at me and said "Franklin Delano Roosevelt ran the country from a wheelchair". That accident taught me a valuable lesson in looking at the glass as "half full" as opposed to "half empty". It is all about your perspective.

Your not over your head in debt or have no debt, your clean, you have food, your roof doesn't leak, you have savings and your warm. I don't think that's poor! Our 800 sq ft house is paid for. Now we just have to pay some small debts and we are free! Love your channel!

Thank you for sharing this! When I remarried and moved into my husband's home, I was frustrated that it needed so much work done. Then it hit me! This house will be paid for in full before we retire. We will be paying it off early. We are both in our mid 50's. So this means alot! We have spent only what we can afford to get work done. In the past 5 years our little home has transformed a vintage treasure. My home is rich in love, Jesus and laughter. We have a long way to go, but the journey has been gratifying. I lived as a money rich person in my previous marriage. What I have now is worth so much more!

I absolutely love you and your outlook on life. I am 54 and also live in an old mobile home on 10 acres. Before we bought this place we rented a 4000 sf McMansion in the suburbs. Some folks would think we took a step backwards. Our current home is 1200 sf. It has the issues that all older mobile homes have. BUT I now live a life of frugal abundance...gardens, chickens, honeybees, rabbits, etc., and PEACE! I would not trade our little house out here for the nicest house in town. I mean that. There is nothing like earth, and freedom, and room to live, grow, and be. I would not go back to cleaning 6 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, removing dust and cobwebs from 20 foot ceilings, listening to my neighbors fuss and argue and flush (literally), the postage stamp sized yards...etc. We are happy here, and secure. This means so much more than the bigger-is-better mentality so prevalent in our culture today. Thank you, Tessie, for speaking MY heart!!! 💕

Tessie you live a very blessed life. You own your home and you are living a sustainable life, what more could anyone ask for. We bought our land and building our own house. We have no mortgage and we started prepping. We own our second hand vehicles and no they are not fancy, but get us to where we need to go. I love shopping at the second hand stores and buy veggies from the open market. Using the same clothes from years ago and they are still good. God provided me and my family with all that I have and continues to provide for us. God is good all the time. Tessie, you are a strong and wise young lady! God Bless you and your family.

Tessie, you are "right on" with your thinking. Trust me, there is nothing better than knowing you are NOT in debt, you have a CUSHION to lean on and OWN your home. As we age it is called having PEACE OF MIND, no more rat race and ENJOYING the rest of our life. By the way, last night I heard someone on another channel say that if someone has a video on mute while having it play so as to give extra credit to the person, that they do not get the credit if the video was put on mute. I totally understand where you’re coming from. I don’t have land, but I do own my 1981 mobile home, free and clear. I live in a lovely mobile home park that is 55+, and I have a few neighbors who have become cherished friends. My 3 daughters and my 3 grandchildren are my heart, and in them I am the richest woman in the world! What I’m getting at is I am extremely grateful, more than words can say, for all that God has blessed me with. My motto is “be content with what you have.” If you are constantly wishing you had more this and better that, it’s hard to be happy and at peace with your life. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t or can’t strive for something better, but don’t let it take you over. Count your blessings and focus on what you DO have instead of what you DON’T have; being content is one of the secrets to a happy life!! You are very wise Tessie, and I am willing to bet that MANY MANY people would give anything to live where and how you do. God bless you and your husband; that you are still happily married after all these years is a tremendous blessing. You are a blessing to us all! Thank you for being so open about your life and for sharing your skills. I am 62 years old and I’ve never canned anything! But because of your helpful videos, I am determined to give it a go this year!! 😏

I had the beautiful 1800’s farmhouse and even though it was paid in cash the taxes in New Hampshire at 13,000 a year and the heating bill just broke us. We ended up moving to Virginia and paid for our house again and it’s so much cheaper and I don’t have to worry now that I can’t live here by myself. I love my double wide and my one acre it’s perfect for me. It was a foreclosure but it’s my home and I love it so much.

Tessie I admire your ability to live your life in a way that makes you happy and are secure in it... My mom grew up in the great depression and the war rations of WWII. She was so frugal she could make Abe Lincoln yell... all kidding aside, I think so many people believe they have to have things to be happy. The reality is finding peace within yourself to be able to be happy and grateful for what you have.
