This also felt to me like gettin to C a diff outcome to all this that we don't get to C in the game cus there's only so much u could do in the actual game. It feels like a more full manifestation of somethin genuinely diff but wholly unclear wut that'll be & I praise it for that since they've been able to keep things pretty similar even if it's not technically presented the exact same but that differences R notable enough to say somethin else is guna happen in some regard. I feel wit many works I love over a long period of time I can generally predict the course to the end to a point but here despite how much is the same It's hard to tell. I think that's a testament to how unique DrakenNeir & yoko taro R. They might do a random extra joke endin after the actual finale & do somethin along the lines of the Y endin u described. I'm not sayin it's super likely but I'm def not puttin it past them either lol

I really want to see something that resembles a hopeful ending, not necessarily just Ending E, but something that might allow for things to be different, though the fate of the characters remain mostly the same. It's entirely possible that multiple branches have already formed and maybe we could even see something like that. The thing that most concerns me is going to be a few weeks from now... where we get the final episode of Cour 2 in sub...and we get Episode 21 in dub...

Each episode has used a title from one of the endings, there are 26 of them, we just had episode 21 out of 24 confirmed for the show. Here are the following possible episode titles from the remaining endings. just y[O]u and me Meaningless [C]ode fa[T]al error time to rela[X] [E]nd of YoRHa I'm thinking Episode 22 is going to be about Devola and Popola helping 9S get into the tower, their backstory, and him finding himself in that room filled with a familiar face. All but certain the episode will be titled "just y[O]u and me" Episode 23 will show A2 facing against the Red Girls and possibly defeat them once and for all, with 9S and A2 either facing each other at the end, or about to. Titles I'm thinking are likely would be Meaningless [C]ode (if they go full route C) fa[T]al error (if it ends with the Red Girls defeat/9S and A2 about to face each other) Final Episode will either start at or just after 9S and A2's final confrontation, with the rest being the Epilogue/new ending Titles I'm thinking are likely time to rela[X] (for the "good" ending?) [E]nd of YoRHa (for the bad ending or if they go full Ending E from the game)

@@GodFireBreakdowns yw, also looks like I was right about the title of the next episode, though I'm concerned it might end with 9S entering the tower, which while that would give Devola and Popola more time for flashbacks and development, I'm concerned that it might come at the cost of a post ending epilogue. If the final shot of the anime is the same as the final shot of the game... I'm going to be rather disappointed, so much of the anime has been expanding on things in the game, animating what was previously just text or whatnot. Not having an animated adaptation of an epilogue to me would defeat a major reason to have an anime adaptation in the first place.

Since this is all about ending theories, I guess spoilers are fine, personally I see NieR Reincarnation as more of the result of our choices in Automata, despite it taking place in a separate branch, the ending it has is one that I rather liked. While The Automata Anime is also another branch and it's darker than the game, it's not as dark as Reincarnation's depiction of the events of Automata in 10H's story. But since we're not talking about Reincarnation here I'll avoid spoilers for that one, even though I think it's somewhat relevant. I think A2 teaching Pod 042 to say "Suck it" when faced with impossible odds is going to pay off in the finale, and the column of Pods we see in the intro leads me to believe they might indeed be able to fix up The Resistance and possibly even Pascal, but their programming is preventing them from doing so (they may be physically capable, but lack the authorization.) There are apparently thousands of them as well, I backed up my saves before deleting them because I believe that we don't live in a meaningless world, and that through faith, ingenuity and courage we can persevere against the seemingly impossible. We CAN Delete our saves, and Keep them too. I don't know how the anime's finale will go, All I know is this... The Ride Never ends.

@@GodFireBreakdowns (Edited for clarity and punctuation so it's not as rambling) Okay, Imagine if the Resistance was wiped out in episode 14 along with YoRHa, and if 2B and 9S never made it off the bunker as it collapsed around them. Leaving 10H the sole survivor. However from what I saw of Reincarnation it has the happiest ending of any DrakeNieR game, because the protagonist had no hate in her heart for her foe. She wins literally through the power of love and friendship and as hackneyed as that sounds it worked both narratively and as a fitting conclusion. As every game up until then had a protagonist consumed with hatred. Which is why each ending has been bittersweet at best. We even See YoRHa units and Machine Lifeforms come back to life and all the memory characters returning to their respective "worlds". These worlds I interpreted as a dreamscape as the Cage is revealed to be the Moon Server. So I believe that many of the memory characters are actually "gestalt" consciousnesses in the traditional meaning of the word (as well as what's left of Project Gestalt). like how 9S split himself apart and put himself back together, at the end of Episode 12/RouteA/B. I think they are made from Fragments of various human souls that were interred into the moon server, these fragments coalesced together to form a single whole. However that whole has a wide assortment of contradictory memories that the mind tries to make sense of, so that's why we see familiar themes but in very different ways throughout the memory characters in the game. So it's my theory that at the end they return so the cracks in their souls can be mended, and they can become whole people and can finally leave the cage, where YoRHa and the Machines will be waiting for them with open arms. I do not believe the Anime takes place after Reincarnation because I do not subscribe to the time loop theory, in Reincarnation it was said the recordings of human history loop around, not history itself. basically I saw the ending to Reincarnation and it reminded me of that one episode of Doctor Who, only with Yoko Taro saying "Everybody Lives! Just this once! everybody lives!"

@@GodFireBreakdowns The long of the short of how it's relevant to the Automata Anime, it seems that the darker it gets, the brighter the dawn will be, if Reincarnation's ending is any indication anyway.
