Are We Living in a Multiverse?

Are we living in a multiverse? If so, where are all the other universes? Scientists and philosophers have pondered these questions for centuries, as they contemplated the possibility of parallel universes. The multiverse theory is not often discussed by cosmologists, due to its speculative and untestable nature. However, there are a myriad of different interpretations depicting how a multiverse might manifest, some of which we may be detectable within our own universe. So buckle up, because in this video we will be leaving the galaxy entirely, as we take on the biggest question of them all- the question of whether our universe is the only one.

My own completely unscientific opinion is the level 2 black hole birthing universes theory makes the most sense. Like zooming in on a fractal image that goes on infinitely, each universe births an infinite number of other universes, and each of those birth an infinite number of universes, and on and on. Mathematically we have the unobserved white hole, and while they should be as common as black holes, maybe they are but we just can't see the other side of the Penrose diagram except for our own big bang. I know it seems too "neat" but something about it just makes perfect sense to me.

sometimes, it's the things that just "make sense" that actually explain things. I tend to see things outside the box as is thanks to Autism Operating System, and this theory has made sense to me since i first heard it a few years ago.

Today I learned my pet/totally unscientific theory of the origin of the universe has names - Cosmological natural selection/Fecund Universes. I remember learning science in school in the early 90s & they would talk about the potential of white holes. Like you say, it just makes logical sense, not in a reproductive/life way but in the way that - this compressed matter has to go somewhere. the Big Bang was an explosion of compressed matter... Two situations that need an answer that fit each other.

I personally like Lee Smolin’s take on the multiverse. The idea is really elegant to me. Black holes birth new universes, and the universes that are better at forming black holes (and stars, matter, life etc) are naturally selected for. It does explain why the constants of the universe are “just right” for the formation of life.

I’ve been scared of dying lately. And the idea that the universe is at least unimaginably large, perhaps even infinite kind of helps my fears. Because even after I die here there’s a chance I exist somewhere else right now, in the past, and/or in the future. So, I look forward to seeing you guys there/then.

interesting .. so are you implying that you will experience and continue to exist in life after death through these infinite other versions of you? or are you saying that the idea of there being infinite "you's" brings you satisfaction even if you won't be there to experience their lives?

@@iamjohnrobotThe practical application of these theories don't matter. Why do we seek knowledge in the first place? We are curious creatures capable of dreaming up wild and impossible things. How many people do you think must have dreamed of flying in human history? Something so casual these days that we take it for granted, and I'm not just talking about airplanes, but wingsuits, jets, spacecrafts... How many people in human history have looked up at the moon as this impossibly far object? A place where humans have physically gone. We have sent a device beyond the solar system, our tendrils lengthen. Why shouldn't we dream of impossible things and see if there's any way it holds water, because on the journey you may just find better ideas - through exploring the limitations of imagination. Science is the pursuit of knowledge, the foundational truths to our existence are so mysterious and unknowable that we have no choice BUT to dream up imaginative possibilities. Where is your sense of romance?

I haven't watched Multiverse yet but my man SEA always knocks Cosmos content straight out the park! His tour of Triangulum and Andromeda galaxies are priceless gifts to KZbin that have no parallel on the Channel by any Creator! That is what makes this channel so special he covers the Space topics that get the views and likes by casuals and hard core Space tubers , but he's also not afraid to take a risk and do a full length Triangulum galaxy video that might not be as attractive as a video on the largest Stars , Super Massive Black holes or Super Voids. I'm gonna shut up and watch this video now , but I just wanted to show some love first, I'm not rich but I try to leave a tip when I can cause his channel has help turn a Curiosity into an Obsession to learn as much as I possibly can about the Cosmos! Nah… it’s only one. But here’s the biggest question; WHAT does our universe, or multiverses (if one believes there are many) reside WITHIN? Everything is typically contained within something (earth is contained within the solar system, the solar system within the Milky Way, the Milky Way within galaxy clusters, galaxy clusters within dark matter, dark matter within the universe, etc)… but what is the universe contained within? It started somewhere but when it started what was that point of origin contained within? This is the one question that absolutely bothers me to no end and keeps me awake at night. I can deal with tornadoes, white shark attacks, bears breaking into my home for pop tarts left out on the kitchen table by my 8 year old nephew when they sleep over… but I can NOT deal with the fact we are all just floating along in a rapidly expanding universe that ends nowhere… where does space begin / end? If you think this through, it will keep you up too. 😅

30:10 what if the multiverse isn’t even ruled by *that*? Maybe ‘illogical’ concepts that seem contradictory to us are just incompatible with our local logical system. Maybe there are entire separate multiverses where 2 + 2 = 5 and that actually makes sense to the people living there.

SEA videos are so good I save them for the weekend. I think that if there is a creator then the most efficient theory is the correct one. The problem with a lot of the theories right now is they have gaping holes in their logic or some things that are required are physically impossible at least with what we know right now. I personally think it's likely that other universes exist but I would rather wait until some holes are patched to presume which one is correct. Amazing video seriously ❤️

As my understanding in physics and nuclear physics improved over the last half century, I've come to strongly suspect and believe multiverses are dimensional layers which intersect as the quanta universally manifesting in every parcel of space (sometimes referred to as vacuum or zero point energy shared through these quanta for as little as a plank time instant.) I admit I lack a PhD to justify my research as credentialed work, but I've given this thousands of hours of thought, research, and writings.

So.. In a Level 4 Multiverse, if someone tripped in the wire and pulled the plug, we would all disappear? Great video as always.

You basically taught me all there is to know about multiverses in a little over 30 minutes I WANT the Landscape Multiverse to be the ultimate truth but I have a hunch that cosmological natural selection is on to something. Life is so mysterious and may be the fractal of reality starting from the very top

27:18. One of the most interesting episodes of any of the Star Trek shows was an episode of Next. Gen called "Parallels" filmed over 30 years ago (way ahead of its time) and in that episode Lieutenant Commander Worf (the Klingon character) was bouncing around between different quantum states. The episode really blew my mind.

Hoo boy, it's fictional explaining time. In the past three years, I've been building up a fanfiction narrative that focused on the multiverse as a concept. On the surface, it looks like a crazy sci-fi space-opera amalgamation of most, if not all, of every single media genre in existence (from grimdark, to adventure, and so on, so forth), But, there are quite a lot of undertones in all of my stories regarding the multiverse as a concept. Despite everything I made is completely fictional, I had to make a basis for where my dream setting would work without too many plot holes. And then I found my way here, in this video. Honestly, I'm kinda a Level 2 and Level 3 Multiverse guy. Instead of making other people's brains explode, I decided to lean out the concept and interpret it into a 2-dimensional scenario in order to better suit the readers. From the 2-dimensional view of the physical universe, the Multiverse appears like a web connecting universes together. The strings connecting them is based on the order in which the universe is discovered (for reference, we'll use the fictional Halo universe as a starting point.), Thus, from the perspective of the physical universe, or in this case a 2D map, it looks like the multiverse is expanding from our reference starting point in a system of ever-expanding webs. There's more to my take. Within these universal bubbles are an infinite amount of timelines, completely based on the Level 3 multiverse concept. Concepts like creating a new timeline based on every decision and idea you make and etc. is all applied here. (emphasis on "idea" as you read below.) Example: Within the singular cluster of the universe where the events of a fictional show are based on an idea like an anime, there are loads of timelines, each created from every decision and idea. Which means, in a multiversal-based media, everything, from fanfiction to fanworks or parodies, are all canon to the original show. Why? The Multiverse, of course. But, here's the catch. From the perspective of a single universe, each dimension (in this case, referring to alternate dimensions where there are different laws of physics) are thought to be regulated to that particular dimension, but rather it is connected to ALL universes, since distance is basically useless in this concept. Popular examples such as the Warp from Warhammer 40k, and many interpretations of Heaven, Hell, or limbo. But then again, it's the multiverse, there are infinite outcomes and possibilities, and in my own writer's perspective, an infinite amount of storytelling, which can be made without progressing the main timeline too much. In the multiverse, nothing is defined based on what's real and what's fictional. Everything exists. I hope I explained it well. I'm not too good at essays sometimes. Due to my limited knowledge on the multiverse concept as a whole, There will be a lot of contradictions and misconceptions I messed up along the way. But again, it's just my take on the multiverse concept, and I am sure a lot of media shared this concept to a degree. I'm just expanding on the idea. This video helped me expand my knowledge on the topic so I thank SEA for their efforts in putting all of this together. What are your takes on the multiverse, If you were to write a story based on this concept, how will you interpret it?

I find it mind boggling not that an infinite number of universes means there will be ones unimaginably different from our own but that there will be ones that are exactly identical to ours but for a single subatomic particle that is a single planck length out compared to ours.

Humans are funny creatures. We turn any answer into another question and spend so much of our finite time on what we know we can't expect to discover. Still, we just can't help it. Thanks for the upload!😊
