He's honestly right though. If you only have a budget of 1k, wait until you have 10-15% more cash and buy the 7900xt for 20-40% more performance. The so called winners of this 'out of touch' challenge, were the most out of touch. With the guess of their system cost being the worst at over 20% out. And spending $400 on the motherboard/CPU combo and only taking a 7700xt is a disgrace.
@PolarTrance
@PolarTrance Ай бұрын
@@williamlockwood9729 You are out of touch. That budget of 1k is fine and that extra often isn't as big of deal as it seems when you're shopping for parts. 20-40%... What? on the best day of your life with 7900xt you might get that 20% when comparing to the worst day of your life with a 7700xt, while your everyday normal experience is going to float around 5-15%. You get way more bang for you buck when you go with the lower tier GPUs, so with a tight budget that's what you do. Wait longer, might not be an option, saving up that much can already take a long time, you're out of touch. And since the GPU is very easy to upgrade, at worst you need a new power supply, which are not that expensive in general.
@williamlockwood9729
@williamlockwood9729 Ай бұрын
@@PolarTrance "RX 7900 XT outperforms RX 7700 XT by a substantial 30% based on our aggregate benchmark results." (you can find the same results everywhere, ranging from 20-40% on a per game basis.) On a budget of 1k not getting a 7800xt over a 7700xt is criminal.

The timer is good for forcing a snap decision. It needed to be implemented better though, because if you can't even get the list of options straight quickly enough then it's not a snap decision between what you are considering or available for what you have already chosen, and instead a random decision on whatever you can see and find quickly - which is less interesting random luck than forced quick decision.

I really like these kinds of challenges, BUT why do all of them (scrapyard wars, pc case out of cardboard, etc..) have such strict time requirements? Well during the pandemic and like 2020-2023ish it was really expensive to get most GPUs and other PC parts were just over priced and hard to get which screwed the used market also. Now you can literally build an amazing system for like $800-1200 or cheaper if you get used parts. Plus like so many gaming laptops regularly have like $650 discounts so if you don’t have a monitor or need mobility you can get a great gaming laptop for like $500-1000 when the sales are on.

0:40 All manufacturers of power banks should be legally obliged to state the battery capacity in watt hours. The specification in milliamp hours says nothing about the actual capacity, as it completely disregards the voltage. For example, Apple was criticized for its measly 1460 mAh power bank, but almost everyone ignored the fact that it has a voltage of 7.62 V instead of the usual 3.7 V. If you convert that, it has 11.1 Wh, which is equivalent to a 3000 mAh capacity for a 3.7V power bank

That has been my pet peeve for a long time. However, it did help me one time. For some student project, we had to move a self made vehicle from Europe to America. The army was so nice to do ship most of the vehicle, but refused the batteries. (i guess paperwork was a hassle for them, the mAh wasn't that high, but the voltage...) However, commercial flights don't care about voltage, so they were shipped with the students. Sure, each battery was the maximum personal budget of "capacity" per passenger, but nobody seemed to notice it was 8x the normal voltage....

I agree and the same with phones. That is why I think they do it because a phone will be saying 5000mah and then you see a power bank with 10000mah it will roughly charge your phone twice. Wh just makes more sense but everyone wouldn't need to implement it and that's likely why they haven't. Most people understand the wh aswell because our electricity and gas is delivered in kWh as well as using kw for car power in some countries. It's strange that in most cases we use wh for consumption but ah for capacity unless it's big big batteries then we tend to use wh again. The whole thing is a bit of a mess.

It was also possible to adjust the build such that you could have fitted a 7700XT instead (depending on when you spec'd the build, as prices vary). Like, that 750W PSU seems a bit too much, as a 550W-650W would have been sufficient instead (since the total wattage seems to be under 420W based on the listed specs). Similarly, SN850X seems also a bit to high-end, when SN580 could have worked.
@ghoulbby
@ghoulbby Ай бұрын
@@Sup_D sn850x and sn580 are way too closely priced to choose the 580. Occasionally you'll catch the 580 on sale while the 850x isn't, but that's rare. If it's a $20-30 different definitely go for the 850x.
@Sup_D
@Sup_D Ай бұрын
@@ghoulbby While that might be true in general, but if you are building a limited budget PC, then you have to cut-cost on other parts, to invest in more better parts. Yeah, the price difference between SN580 & SN850X is like $20, but by adjusting the price on other parts, if you can save upto $40-$50 more, then up can upgrade to 7700XT from 6750XT. Plus, NVMe SSD's are getting cheaper anyway, so investing on a lower budget one now, and later on adding a better one would be more beneficial, as you can easily use your older drive for storage or game drive later on (i mean, there is no way 1TB is going to be sufficient in current situation, you would eventually need more storage).
@beirch
@beirch Ай бұрын
@@ghoulbby Nah that makes no sense in a budget build. You can get a 580 2TB for $100. That's an extra 1TB for $20 vs the SN850X, and I guarantee you *no one* is noticing the performance difference with casual use and gaming. I would know cause I have a SN850X, SN770, Kingston A2000, and a Patriot P300, and I can't tell *any* difference between them when it comes to gaming or mid size (5-20GB) file transfer.

Instead of 45s to find something, it should have been like five minutes for PC parts, five minutes for peripherals? Or even make it more game show-like, each team has to answer a plethora of tech questions/get closest to the part's real price without ANY research, etc,. and that awards points that correlate to time you get to pick? That would probably be better for two teams. A wide collection of gaming, pop culture, technical, and "nerd" questions would keep it fun imo too and I imagine the cost would be cheaper (one camera operator and two stationary cameras, you get like 10m of content off of just that) Could riff off of classic shows like Family Feud, Jeopardy, Press Your Luck, etc,. too. Make it another series where we get different teams of like three people and a bracket which pushes specific builds ("best micro-atx case build", "best amd build", "single color build", "pre-2000s build", etc.) Plus I feel this could easily use sponsored content like AMD, Intel, whatever. I wonder if the sponsors would even be cool with an AMD vs INTEL final battle between the top two teams? Idk, but the 45s timer seemed too small imo.

$1000 is a great budget for a solid PC, as long as you have the keyboard/mouse and monitor and such, and from there you can just upgrade piece by piece to not make it such a big expense which makes a gaming PC very manageable on a budget, especially when consoles cost close to a $1000 now and you still need to pay all the extra fees and none of it will carry over to the next one.

I'd second this. My first build was £960 GBP with cheap peripherals. Upgraded bit by bit as my company grew, and it was a slow but steady way to build a great workstation. Did this during the GPU shortage too. Now that's over, the approach is even easier.
@Pyroteq

Even if you don't have the furniture and peripherals, you can easily find a "good enough" mouse, keyboard and monitor almost for free. Desks and chairs you can literally get for free. Sure, it won't be a low latency wireless mouse with a 10,000 DPI sensor or a mechanical RGB keyboard and a 1440P OLED monitor... But it'll get the job done until you can get something decent after saving for a bit.

I disagree. I think a $1000 PC budget isn't great for most people. If your budget is a strict $1000, your best option is to wait a little while and bring your budget up to $1200-1300. $1000 you can get a pretty good build, but you'll be cutting corners and making little compromises while still not having a great GPU. At $1200, you can cut corners and make little compromises but put in a nice beefy GPU.

@@Tyler-z8r I'd say a $1000 is fine if you shop around for good deals, maybe catch something on a sale. Also depends a bit on where you are, I think in the US that might get you a bit more than it does in the EU, but a $1000 is workable.
