Watching your powercreep videos made me glad to see she will most likely be relevant for a long time due to how she enables DoT teams. I have 300 pulls saved up, so hopefully I can get lucky and get Kafka BS and robin.

If your getting a dot team, your normally recommended to get kafka, black swan, kafka sig and then black swan e1, but that's for making them one of your premium main teams as they can get really strong consistency dps wise

I wouldn't say it overshadowed Hypercarry. Both were competitive till Acheron & FF. Arguably, hypercarry was better because DHIL/Jingliu comps were the best in the game. DOT supremacy was there after black Swan for like .1/.2 patches. Well, ofc break and FUA will get overshadowed if no support was out for them. FUA/break lacked 4 stars alternatives, dps's and support. Whereas DOT had guinafen, sanpo and luka etc they could use.

A Nihility sustain is super feasible to introduce without making it work for Acheron. It's something as simple as introducing an unremovable debuff that doesn't count towards Acheron ult (like Clara does). Imo, this debuff (either from ultimate or skill) should make it so enemies with it receive increased damage when taking damage on their turn, but also advances their turns whenever they're hit (by on turn attacks, or FUA). They could also have a talent that could apply a shield or heal based on the amount of DOT or damage that the enemy received. A healer like this wouldn't be good just for dots, but it could also be super beneficial to counter FUA units like Clara or Yunli. Mihoyo kills two birds with one stone.

Fun idea, they could be like fu xuan in the sense that they "sustain" in an unorthodox way. I think this new sustainer could be like reducing the damage that the enemies deal, kinda like an opposite fu xuan. But idk 🤷‍♂️

I agree when EOD said Harmony not really a must in DoT comps, by nature, DoT team should have at least 2 DoT applier, best 3 with sustainer. it is just the sustainer for DoT should have any synergy to these 3 DoT appliers, maybe converting all DoT debuff to percentage heal or shield that can proc DoT damage if enemy hit the chara or something like that....anyways, there still room for improvement for DoT team

On the topic of buffing vs. debuffing, I feel like it's worth pointing out that debuffing has a pretty distinct disadvantage: debuffs are only active until the enemy dies or changes phase, and most debuffers don't just apply their debuffs to every enemy that appears on the field automatically (Jiaoqiu is really strong because of this, this weakness is irrelevant to him but it's a big deal for other damage-amping debuffers). Also I don't really think Huohuo is meant to be DoT's sustain unit. I will only be confident that a character is intended to be strongest in the DoT niche if their kit has specific synergies with DoT comps and Huohuo doesn't have that yet, she's just the only sustain that can meaningfully buff DoT in an offensive way at E0S0 (as opposed to Fu Xuan and Aventurine who only have Crit buffs). Same for the 4th slot; Jiaoqiu might HAVE DoTs in his kit, but he has an Ultimate DMG specific buff (and nothing specific to DoT comps) so there's still room for a replacement to him. I literally am only building a DoT team because of Kafka, and I kinda assumed everyone was running DoT purely because they like Kafka or Black Swan. Does anyone actually run DoT for it's own sake?

Dot archetype is just not very well rounded at the moment. I find that robin helps my team clear faster than rm but she has no specific synergies with dot either. I'm looking forward for them to fill the archetype with the perfect synergies like ff break/premium fua

As a long-time DoT main (more of a Nihility main now overall), I'll admit, I started playing in 1.2 mainly because I like Kafka. However, looking back, starting out with DoT was a God-send. Since it was my first time playing a Hoyo game, the fact that I only needed to build ATK for DoT really made my early game life easy as I didn't have to worry about crit ratios. It wasn't until Topaz came out that I started building crit units and realized how resource intensive it is to farm even serviceable crit gear. I also agree that there's a lot of room for DoT-related characters to be released. I always thought DoT would have a lot of longevity because of this, but they shifted their focus into Weakness Break so DoT seems to be in the back burner for now.

Huo huo is good in dot because of her ult. It gives an increase of attack which buff your dot dmg by a bit more which can kill a boss by that little margin to say a cycle.

I honestly did want to start building dot as pure fiction has made me always regret skipping black swan. But after getting JQ for my acheron i don't have the urge anymore. I would still try to get black swan if I could afford it as she seems like she would be fun in divergent universe, but overall she would just be collecting dust as I have no plans to get kafka or huohuo. And compared to my current account state DOT wouldn't really change anything or bring anything new to the table as I'm already full auto playing all endgame content. And I would need to spend a lot of money this patch if I was gonna build DOT from scratch to match my accounts power (Im just a goldfish that buys monthly sub). Then again everyone has different circumstances. But I truly believe its easier to slowly invest in other meta dmg archetypes (FUA, BREAK) when they introduce an extremely strong main carry that can do well without having all their BIS supports and minimal investment like break teams. But I wouldn't miss out on black swan only because she has a lot to offer as a character and her future potential seems more bright compared to kafka.

One redeeming quality of DoT is its ability to completely bypass enemy's shield. It's not as impactful right now since there's only like 2 enemies that have shields (Traffic Robot & Argenti).

They could release an harmony oriented on DoT teams, that would have a field that could either give one of the following : - Ennemies in the field receive enhanced DoT dmg based on a trace (Robin like for FuA) or based on the number of DoT on the targets. - Applies instance of Bleed on all targets while the field is active, dmg based on charachter Break effect or EHR (this way the Bleed would deal more dmg if based on a pseudo "Bleed from) break". - Applies a field that could give a fixed chance of dots to Crit for ex: 25-50% Crit rate and 50-100% Crit dmg based on the charachter EHR. - When the field is active, detonate the DoTs on the target one extra time for like 50-75% of the initial DoTs dmg. Also traces similar to Kafka E2. There are plenty of ways to make an Harmony that is DoT oriented, and since its an Harmony, it would be easier to make it not working with Acheron so she stay strong, but not the only "by default" choice.

i have a couple of ideas for the dedicated dot harmony and sustain (either preservation or abundance) units for the sustains, obviously they have to apply some form of dot themselves intrinsically, maybe they have absolutely 0 on demand healing/shielding to compensate and then like you said similar to the sim uni blessing where dot procs give a heal or a shield. then they should probably have some form of either direct scaling with ehr like firefly or a conversion like black swan. for the dot harmony, i think the best way to do this is to simply let them make everyone on the team be mini kafka. so lets say their ult similar to ruan mei provides a field for 3 turns of their own turns. during this duration, dot dmg vulnerability on enemies is increased, and all attacks will proc x% of every dot inflicted on the enemy. then maybe idk what the skill could be, probably yet another robin/ruan mei team buff based on their own turns as seems to be very common in new double dps centric harmony these days, probably just regular atk% or maybe even speed buff, or perhaps to shake things up is actually an action advancer that makes the target unit's next action apply their dot and do a small detonation of all dots on the target, so you can slot them in lets say regular dot team with kafka and bs and you have choice to either advance black swan and make her capable of detonating her dots or advance kafka and have multiple instances of the dots on the target detonating simultaneously.

i think crit DOT will be the DoT version of Superbreak, however they would need to add crit stats differently, for example for each dot the enemy has increases char crit rate by 7% for example, or DoT just have a set chance to do double damage when proc'ed. i do think more DoT chars like Kafka need to be added where you proc DoT damage upon attacking making DoT comps more front loading after a wind up.

Based on my experiences, the fastest one that can help BSwan's stacking is Sampo. I usually swapped raun mei with sampo if the enemies are weak to wind. The lesser the enemy the faster sampo can ramp up BSwan's stacks.

I think we need a new DPS or a DoT focused support. Right now on average it takes around 8-9 cycles with the best DoT comp. We just need more raw damage. (Also I don't want to give up Kafka, she's my favorite character)

1:20 solid advice here. This what i did when I was new to the game. Jingliu and QQ were my only dps and I had to choose between Black Swan or Kafka. Went with Black Swan, and she's been clearing every MOC and PF with either Sampo or Guinaifen depending on enemy weakness. Looking forward to getting Kafka to complete the nihility trio.

A harmony unit that has a 3 turn lasting skill that gives all dots a fixed crit dmg and crit rate stat and an ultimate that pushes the opponents forward. give it the same energy requirements like tingyun and mei so you get a garanteed 3 turn ultimate with energy lightcone. Another idea is to copy Robins idea reverse. As long as the harmony unit is in the ultimate state she increases the speed of opponents and while in the state she gives crit values to dot chars.

A cool game mode idea I think they could at least try as an event mode is a mode where their is a boss with “infinite” health or near unkillable health and the battle against the boss lasts for a certain amount of cycles or action value. Then you get rewards for reaching certain damage thresholds such as 10% of the boss’ health, 20%, etc.

Snowbreak: Containment Zone has some modes where the main focus is just doing the most damage. The enemies will not die and keep fighting while you try to dish out as much damage as possible on a set time. These scores are then measured by a kind of a pool that have all the players that participated in the mode. You are then given a % that will rank you at "top xx%" of the players that participated. These are often just extra resources as you will get maximum rewards (the equivalent of jades) just by making said enemies health reach 1. So the only incentive to do this is bragging rights and sometimes a timed cosmetic that will show in your profile you are top 1 to 5% of the playerbase.

Fast enemy will only resulting in you will never be able to hit high Arcana stack on said enemy and having to spam BS's E more often to refresh DEF down due to them being very fast. I think DoT really need a dedicate support that can skyrocket the damage and/or fix some major painpoints. There are multiple ideas I can think of that would be really appreciated and fun to see in DoT: 1. Massive RES/DEF down based on how many type of DoT currently on enemies. so much so that DoT can compete with other archetype despite being back-loaded. 2. Critable DoT with fixed rate (Think C2 Nahida) since currently DoT state do not support building natural crit at all. 2.1 or some sort of effect that make DoT trigger repeatedly (maybe chance based or something). 3. Mini Kafka that can detonate X% of DoT. Anyway. Regardless of what this hyporthetical unit can do, what all really matters is that premium DoT should be on the same level playing field as other meta comps.

As a DoT main there is 2 way to improve DoT: One is improve their dot dmg by releasing another BS( who can be also support while doing big dmg) which is e2 jiaoqiu is literally skyrocket dot team in the 3rd slot. Second,how frequent dot can explode which basically a robin who can add dot or debuffs while boosting your team action which will increase the dmg output,extra kafka proc,more arcana stacks ( i pull robin just to 0 cycle 2m hp sam back in the day)

Tbh for Jiaoqiu they should have added for his ult “target reserve increased DOT dmg. In that way he would be still good with teams that use ults to do dmg, but also make him a really good option for DOT and maybe replacing Ruan Mei and Robin, because right now he fells like second option for DOT.

I think it would be cool to have some kind of dedicated support for DoT that on ultimate, detonated all DoT on enemies with a fixed crit percentage (kind of like how robins damage works in her ult)… that way it wouldn’t be too OP as the crit on DoT’s is fixed to a single characters ult which also means you would need to time it correctly to get big numbers! But doing it this way also means that there would be no need to build crit stats on your other characters like black swan

Imo dot feels very expensive if you didn’t get/pull kafka on her release. Hypercarry: You can make do with any dps + tingyun/pela ngl. Not to mention you can also lose to Bronya, which helps a lot in hypercarry. Break: Everyone have harmony mc and gallagher are available as free unit twice now. The former enable the whole archetype. FuA: Free Ratio helps Topaz stock on her rerun (maybe?). As alternative, Hunt March also act as a budget puzzle piece for FuA unit. Dot: Currently doesn’t have that “freemium/lower star rarity” unit as alternative of Kafka and you can’t lose 50/50 to “Kafkaesque unit”. Not to mention if you don’t have Kafka, chances are you already invest in different team which make picking *a* piece of DoT team feels more expensive/less appealing compared to upgrade your well built team.

As someone who wanted to build the premium DOT team and Kafka (I didn't get her on debut banner, was taking a break on her 1st rerun) I'm really happy that she finally get another re-run. However, it sucks that both Kafka and Black Swan had their reruns at the same time as Feixiao, so for me I'm getting Kafka first then rest of my pulls are for Feixiao. Like mentioned on the video this is her 2nd re-run and Black Swan's 1st, I'm betting on the chance that Black Swan will get her 2nd re-run in the future before Kafka's 3rd re-run.

The comment about dot-doing crits was pretty intresting. I know Nahida in Genshin Impact has something like that where one of her constellations allows Bloom, which is Genshins closest thing to DOT i think with a 20% CR and 100 CD split.

It could be interesting if a character can transfer all DoT and debuffs on the field to a single enemy and advances them forward. Then, upon death, the debuffs and DoT gets spread randomly amongst the enemies. Possibly, this can be procc’d on Ult. Basically, a redistribution-type character. There could also be a character that inflicts a status effect on the enemy that, when enemies take damage due to DoT, they take more DoT damage based off the character’s stats and heals the ally who inflicted the initial DoT. Basically, a vampiric healing-over-time character. I think there’s a lot of interesting mechanics still untouched by Hoyo. DoT still has a lot of potential.

as for crit DoT they can easily make a Nihility or Harmony that can make DoT with a fixed crit (similar to Robin damage proc from her ult ) for example , 100% and 125% cdmg fixed and will not be inluenced by crit rolls, but the downside is that now DoT is fixed with running Kafka and that DoT Support. so hoyo needs to do something regarding team slot balancing etc etc

8:28 Damage per turn reminds me a lot of Sdorica by Rayark which is almost a death game now, but that game got a quite endgame with a complicated score calculation per stage. There are few endgame stages that do not race against time only but you need to take action to do damage as much as possible per turn and keep that rotation sustainable with limited turn. You don't really need to kill that enemy because they would spawn with tons of ridiculous HP anyway. Additionally, some modes also give different play styles like 'Survival' that need you to keep HP as high-full as much regardless of turns you've used until enemy defeat and they will calculate score from the total HP that you've got.

Next DOT support is going to accelerate enemy turns without allowing them to play and could even refresh all DOT while putting one on the enemies. That's what the devs could do. I remember in Diablo 3 the witch doctor could transfer DOT from enemies to enemies. I would be cool to see such mechanics in star rail (transferring to another wave of enemies not just the adjacent ones). Reducing the ramp up time would be very beneficial to DOT teams.

I’m not sure if there’s a debuff that scales off total enemy health but that’s an easy way to equalize the damage with other play styles. For example in a game called Epic Seven a debuff called poison does 5% enemy max hp per stack. In an endgame mode called abyss where enemies have tons of hp and normal damage isn’t enough hp scaling damage prevails.

Previous wave was break focused, then it moved into FUA. DOT revamp might be coming up real soon. It seems like a pattern, Black Swan ramped up the DOT, then they dropped Acheron into the mix as that final solution of what the nihility characters are meant to do. Then HMC came to give us a warm-up to Super Break. Shortly after, they dropped Boothill and Firefly as the super break finishers. Since 2.3, FUA came into the picture, I'm thinking probably up to 2.6 are meant for FUA. DOT will get its time to shine again when its rotation into the limelight is due. The only question would probably be, will the old DOT characters still be relevant by then? I want to go for Kafka in 2.5, although there's the flashy new Feixiao. Already have Acheron e1 and Black Swan e0, so thinking of completing up DOT with Kafka's unique front load ability. But thinking about this very cyclic pattern, I'm also half-hearted about Kafka.

I've personally been running acheron, kafka, blackswan and fuxuan for most things in the game. It just shreds everything and has 3 of my favorite characters in the team. Its kind of trolling but it works fine and its honestly the most auto brain dead team I have on my account. So thankfully for me I already have all of the rerun charcaters including robin so I'm most likely going for Fei xiao now, if I some how still have jades I might go for topaz cause I like her and she seems to be a must in FUA teams I also recently pulled jade cause mommy issues so theres that as well.

On the topic of a DOT buffer, they could just make a harmony unit that can front load DOT with an extra amount of %. That way they won't have to release 2-3 more Kafkas and can be more creative on the upcoming DOT kits. I'd like to see how they can play off an imaginary unit to DOT since imaginary has the least compatibility towards the DOT play style in a whole

i mean theres no specialized dot harmony, from what i see the future of dot is triggers like kafka, i can see a harmony/nihility that every time a dot is added the other dots are triggered for some amount (less), lay out is similar to ruan mei (sp positive, skill uptime 3 turns, autos add a dot, ultimate buffs something else), it will be a combination of stacking triggerers and debuffers (preservation that gains scaling based on each debuff added to the enemy to a limit, or if you are lazy each dot added you have an effect change to add your own dot) and the triggerers dont count down the dots on the enemy, only normal triggers do the other dot archetype could be more advancing the enemy to use normal triggers instead of forced triggers, but they havent done anything in that area still (waiting for advance enemy preservation still)

I have a question! And maybe others will "profit" from the discussion of this topic, as well! My Main Account is not well equipped when it comes to Follow-Up Attack characters. I have Ratio, Blade, Jade, and characters such as Bronya, Ruan Mei and no Topaz or Robin. But I'm still wavering, whether I should go for Fei Xiao, or for Black Swan's E1. I have her AND her signature, and I also have Kafka at E1 and my Ruan Mei is at E1. And I have Huo Huo, too. - This being said, my account is well equipped when it comes to Debuff and DoT characters. Same thing goes for Acheron and Jiaquiu, I have those characters, too. Long story short: If you had to choose, which is the way to go? Further explore and enhance the already strong and existing characters? Or open up a new line of development and go horizontal / into the broader scheme of things, instead of investing upwards? The latter seems sensible because I already have A LOT of characters that are progressing down that line, but I see the trend towards weakness-break and FuA. And it MIGHT be possible that the many synergies that I already have, could counter the lack of a strong Weakness Break / FuA character such as Fei Xiao. But I don't know, whether Black Swan and Blade will be enough. (This being said: E6 Sampo is sitting on a bench, but I doubt I want to use him...)

I would consider Black Swans E1 over Kafkas LC. At least that's what I did.

“Maybe” there might be enemies in the future that can move really fast due to power creep, which can trigger dot more occasionally, there definitely a lot of potential.

2 stack Arcana does 0 dmg, especially with fast enemies resetting it every other team turn, it's a huge nerf not buff

I love DOT but also have been working on follow-up, curious as to what you all think. Should I go for Kafka's LC or for Robin's unit? I have E2 Kafka, E1S1 Blackswan, E0 Jiaoqiu, etc. For follow-up I have E0S1 Topaz, E0 Adventurine, Ratio, etc. Overall I want Kafka's LC, Robin, and Feixiao eventually and not looking to spend.

I think dot still require another key character to be able to shire. Like character that can freeze enemy indefinitely or slow enemy turn for ever since even though the turn running regularly. Dot might not finish future enemy that slightly beefier than the current enemy.

The problem with DoT is that not only is it backloaded but it has no other beneficial side effects so all it has is DMG, and DMG is just a number that can be powercrept which for DoT has already happened. One way DoT can have more value is if all DoT conditions come with a DEF down as well, so the enemy takes more DMG as a compensation for the DoT's shortcomings. The irony of the situation is that this DEF down actually already exists, but is not built into the standard DoT mechanic. Instead Hoyo chose to build it as part of character's kit, like Firekiss or Ashen Roast probably as a way to increase the selling point of specific characters. And you can see how this turns out for characters like Sampo who can only deal raw DMG with no real DEF down utility like his direct competitor Black Swan.

for dot we'll just have to wait. a sustain &/ harmony that can give dot is all we need and the dot don't have to be comparable to BS even and it'd be fine if its comparable to kafkas own dot. if they come and double the current dot damage that kafka can blow up then it'd be perfect.

Glad to see DoT get a comeback. Feels like they haven't seen much love in quite awhile, which is sad as a DoT main. I really think a Nihility healer would've been amazing. I get that it would've made Acheron even more OP, but at the very least don't advertise a character as a healer and then not have healing in his kit. That's what disappointed me about Jiaoqiu tbh. I don't pull for guys but I was ready to make an exception if that happened.

Id be willing to get into DoT playstyle if they introduced a Kafka alternative. I'm not a fan of her aesthetic wise and don't really want to pull her when jades are so tight. Hypercarry and FuA have a lot of alternatives, but DoT as a archetype is carried by Kafka or its pretty cope meta wise.

In harder content like SU or DU v6 enemies move so fast you might not be able to refresh the dot in time, which I think it's the other extreme of the DOT weakness

8:25 just have a large HP or sheilded boss that does a large amount of Damage. The challenge is surviving long enough to kill it before it kills you.

DOT is waiting for a specialized new character. Acheron was behind Firefly and Yunli until Jiaoqiu, they keep raising the bar every few versions. If your team is not getting stronger, it's getting left behind. The bright side about waiting is the bar will keep going higher, a 3.3 dot character has to be stronger than a 2.6 one.

I just dont want to pull for huohuo, I really want something else that got DOT in part of their kit that could boost speed and attack as well, then my dot team will be complete. Righ now, I play kafka/bs/rm and fu xuan or galagher, I want either a debuffer with high dot capacity or a healer/shielder with dot detonation.

I have a question I’m not a new player but I still have hard time investing on who should I go for I do like break teams a lot so I want to upgrade for Lingsha I have Ruan Mei e0 Gallagher E6 so he’s fine as is. But I really want an euradtion character as well. I’m not sure what to do I want Rappa since I lack euradition units. But I also want to compete my break team. I’m having a hard time beating pure fiction and it’s the one game end game mode I genuinely like to play second to only Apocalyptic shadow that’s my new favorite one .i don’t really care for MOC Swarm or Golden gears. I love Divergent universe tho for the already level up and use of characters.
