Taking a huge risk going into next season relying on McCarthy as your starter. If Darnold plays really well the rest of the year and has a solid playoff game, even if it's a loss, another team might grab him.

That’s precisely why they drafted JJ top 10. If they didn’t wanna take a leap/risk at QB, they would’ve drafted Spencer Rattler in the 5th or 6th. The teams salary cap going forward is set up for a rookie QB contract while Darnold gets paid elsewhere after being rehabilitated here

I think we have to roll with mcarthy next season. Darnold is ok but Its him forcing it to JJ all the time thats costing the team. He is ignoring guys who are wide open to throw to JJ in doub]e coverage.

Darnold needs to start helping the officials when defenders commit personal fouls, especially above the shoulders. A forceful blow to the head caused him to fumble in the Colts game. But he immediately scrambled for the loose ball. Just lie on the turf, dude. No way the flag would be picked up if he hadn't acted like there had been no blow to the helmet. He did the same thing on the facemask tackle safety. You were tackled in the end zone; nothing is gained by springing to your feet.

You know what I don't get about the qb situation is that even if you get a good rookie qb eventually they ll get paid. Out of all the rookie qbs I only see on super star daniel from the skins. If you look at the other good team all there qbs make as much or more than cousins. Goff 50 million love 50 mill hurts 50 mill dak 60 mill cousins 50 mil baker 35 mil carr 40 mil Murray 40 mill Stafford 40 mill geno 30 mil danny jones 40 mill. Jackson 50 mil tua 50 mil mahones 50 mill allen 50 mill burrow 50 mill watson 50 mil herbert 40 mill I just don't see the rookie qb successes that often. I think darnold will get paid at least 30 mill on a couple year guarantee if the rookie qb contract worked wouldn't at least half the contending team have qbs on a rookie deal

Look at the QBs that have gone to the Superbowl each year for the past 15 years. It's either an elite QB getting paid top dollar or it is a QB on a rookie contract. Maybe that will help you understand. It's not half the teams pay big money to their QB and half the teams have a QB on a rookie deal.

Can you guys name a superbowl winning team with a qb on a rookie scale contract i can't think of one maybe Seattle with a young wilson. Chiefs maybe mahones 2nd year but my point is they all get paid. I honestly think cousins at a 40 mill deal 3rd year in koc system get to the superbowl I realize we got some good free agents but I didn't realize that we still have 28 million on the books with cousins this year so it could have worked a healthy cousins 3rd year in the koc offensive with jj I would have loved to see it happen hopefully mccarthy will be the answer hopefully we won't have to ponder that question very long and he's not a Christian ponder

It has been said that Cousins wanted more than a year, and the Vikings couldn't give him all of what he wanted. They tried. That was their goal.

Mahomes made two Super Bowls on his rookie deal but who's counting. How many times did Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have 12 or 13 win seasons on their rookie deals? Goff and Hurts were also in the Super Bowl on their rookie deals. This has been studied over and over.

I think the thing matt that gets me is i get paying for the top 5 qbs like mahomes jackson allen and i guess goffs numbers this year mil but 40 million and up for dak daniel Jones love Murray carr rodgers watson cousins ect baker and geno make over 30 million based off those numbers darnold will be getting 40 million

Darnold is better than Cousins, he has a bigger arm, quicker feet, 10 years younger. But JJ is the future.

There are a ton of unproven QB's who were supposed to be "the future" but never panned out. There is only a slim chance that McCarthy will be a really good QB in the NFL.

Darnold has played well so far having an average QB rating of 107, which is very good. His future will depend on his ability to maintain his level of play; his ability to cut down on his turnovers; how the team feels about JJ coming off the season ending injury and what he showed in preseason; and finally what Darnold will command on the open market. Currently Darnold is #21 is earnings per year at 10 million. If he continues to perform well, and he is willing to sign a longer term deal for between 20-30 million per year I think this would allow JJ more time to develop and still give the team room to acquire other free agents. At 30 million Sam would only jump to the #19 highest paid QB just behind Baker Mayfield at 33 million per year.

If Sam keeps this up and wins a playoff game he’ll likely command a $50 million dollar deal. He’s still only 27 and is 10-5 in his last 15 starts which includes his last season in Carolina. Not to mention it’s not a great QB draft which makes his value even higher.
