Tap o’ Noth Permaculture - a Food Forest Farm

Күн бұрын

It's been a wee while since we last uploaded a FARMVLOG, thank you for your patience. We've got a lot to tell you.
We start off leading the goats up to the North Field to graze, catching up on all things goat and farm kid related - everyone is growing so quickly. We announce the launch of our new business - TAP:RETREAT - a beautiful shepherds hut and wood fired hot tub that we now have available to rent through airbnb (link below). Then James takes a wonder through areas of new forest garden plantings before heading to the goat shed via an area of silvopasture, explaining the change in design from wood fuel production to apple orchard silvopasture. We look at how long it takes the goats to rotationally graze through the system and the fencing we use. We Finish by looking at the improvements we have made to the goat shed area, mostly the paddock around the shed where we have made new more robust fencing using timber backs/slabs and how we protect trees from goat damage.
About Tap o' Noth Farm:
Hi, we're James and Rosa! Welcome to Tap o' Noth Farm, a quarter acre Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) market garden and 8 acre permaculture designed forest garden farm/homestead in Aberdeenshire, NE Scotland. We practice home scale to small farm scale agroforestry and regenerative agriculture methods to produce organic fruit and vegetables, raise dairy goats for all our raw milk needs, Shetland sheep and geese to graze our silvopasture and coppice systems and laying hens, moved around in a Chickshaw, for an abundance of eggs.
Our videos aren't 'how to's' - more videos to give a glimpse into our lifestyle and hopefully inspire you to bring aspects of what you see into your own life.
TAP:RETREAT
Come and stay on the farm in our traditional shepherds hut, complete with pizza oven and wood fired outdoor bath set amongst fields, trees and beside a beautiful pond. you can book through AirBnB here - airbnb.com/h/t...

If you're looking for even more content from James and Rosa then you can become a patron of Tap Farm. It takes James between 5-10 hrs to edit our vlogs, let alone the time it takes to film and farm at the same time! Your support will aid us greatly in producing our FARMVLOGS, enabling us to take the time needed to craft a beautiful film and to help fund the licences needed for the vlog soundtrack. We will list your name at the end of each vlog episode so everyone knows how brilliant you are! We will also keep you updated on our farm work/life by posting exclusive video content that is not available on KZbin such as FARMVLOG outtakes, behind the scenes footage, hints & tips and more in depth videos discussing the many permaculture systems to be found on the farm PLUS the odd photo from Rosa and James.

I'd like to have a little cabin for people to rent. I'd could have farm produce for them to cook, but I wouldn't supply meals directly.

Fabulous update and glad you're all well. I couldn't help but imagine the girls gathering conkers from that Horsechestnut tree in future Vlogs 😂. x

So happy for you both James and Rosa that you now have a bonnie lassie . Good fun ahead! My favourite dessert is wild rasps -a taste all of their own but yes a fiddly pick and not so bonnie berries in the bowl. I never have very many saskatoons or haskap berries --the birds love 'em so much. Be prepared to protect the berries from birdies. Found a white coloured comfrey flower -looks so good amongst the purple colours. Hope your are getting a good sun/rain mix for the garden !!!

Again so lovely, inspiring, educational and nourishing! Tiny horns on the goat kids are simply adorable and wow oh wow your daughters eyes have a lot of magic in them!!! Had a real good laugh at "You look gorgeous today, don't worry" - the farm and all you look gorgeous, not just glowing but shining! Fencing in front of the goat bio is stunningly beautiful - and only few things makes a farmer's day like a good practical gate. Thank you folks! Lots of love

Goat shepards unite! I received my 5 doeling/kids and 2 wethers on May 27th. Love them! We're up on the mountain right now for a three day hike. The wethers (3 years old) carry pack-saddles. I hope your doe will get better and start putting on weight.

🐐✊You’re using the males as pack goats?! That’s awesome! We have always toyed with that idea.

great content as always. I can't help but wonder if it would be worth the cost and effort seeding a low growing rhizome barrier/ ground cover rather than always having to scythe the strips for fencing. I'm simply thinking for long term work load it may free up time in the future for the family.

Lovely to see another update from you all! So glad you’re all doing well and being gentle with yourself. There’s so much pressure these days just to carry on as normal so it’s really refreshing to see you taking a more healthy approach! From one Mama to another I just can’t help but notice how low Lillian is in the carrier. If Rosa had her up much higher, so she can easily kiss the top of her head, it would be much more comfortable for Rosa and free up her arms, and be safer for the little one too. I hope that is help. x

I noticed that too but I think that for much of the video Lillian was nursing. Otherwise ideally she should be higher up to easily kiss, but I think that's a stretchy carrier which makes that challenging. As much as I love the idea of wraps, in the end it was ring slings that worked best for me.
