I'm fastest with 25mm Conti Grand Prix with TPU tubes on my Planet X RT-58 bike, have used Ultrasport/Grand Sport 28 and 32 on it before. Think their lighter weight on the climbs does it and superb grip from the BlackChili compound on corners, I'm not fast or powerful enough for aero to matter more. Was also comfortable on 200km sportive last year over Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor with the 25mm tyres.

I am running Pzero at the moment 26mm usually and going back to them that fck. I think Pirelli makes great tyres even of most of the cycling media inc Hambini & PT seem not to like them to much.. Good choice my friend👍💪🫡

Jan Heine tested tyres of different widths but the same built and he rode them in controlled circumstances. He found out that up to 28 mm wider tyres are definitely faster.

Like the honest tire reviews on the affordable tires. I have four road bikes and use Continental Gatorskins on one bike to prevent flats from Goatheads here in Central California. Goat heads are scourge, but the Gatorskins are thick and heavy and you can feel it when you ride. I ride Continental GP 5000’s, Schwalbe Pro One’s, and Panaracer Gravelking SS + on other three bikes. I can ride hard pack gravel also with Panaracer. They are all 25 width except for Panaracer which are 28 width. Like all the tires and do run Mr Tuffy tire liners on the three last tires and they seem to help prevent flats from goatheads. I usually try to buy the tires on sale so I tend to stick to the more expensive tires. However based on your reviews I may pick up a pair of your tested tires. Thank you very much you massive C Nut and happy riding! 🚴🏻‍♂️

Wider tiers are a mitigation measure for a far to stiff frame and wheels. The frame is too stuff because the disc brakes make it necessary. The wheels are too stuff because for some reason unknown to mankind you decided to waste money on composite materials. Did I mention that disc brakes requires to stiff wheels too? A real road bike and not a MTB with curled handlebars is fine on 700x23C. How do I know? Well I just returned from a ride where cobble stones where included in the mix.

Compliant frame makes it nowhere near to big tires at low pressure. But 30-32mm at low pressure tyres are needed only for cobblestone road, which normal people ride rarely if at all

On recent experience, Goodyear 4 seasons 700x25 are faster feeling than the equivalent Gatorskins. And the Pirelli 700x26 Cintuarto are the most lively for a general use tyre. As for this tubeless BS no thanks. Like riding a blancmange.

I don't care. I run 23-25mm clinchers still. Purely because these wider tyres ruin the looks of a road bike.

If you ride fast then yes, they are faster. More importantly, if you ride slow, they are not slower.

I still think that a wider tyre is more comfortable to AV speed over long distances will be higher as the thinner tyre you will have to stop riding due to comfort so the distance would never be completed or more breaks needed.. But conclusively the faster tyres are the thinnest on test 23mm in this case... So wider is not faster on the metric that is being used by 99% of the cycle industry as they fail to add the context of comfort into the mix for longer non stop riding..

@@THECONTROVERSIALCYCLIST I spent years on 25mm GP5000 riding the same local loops, early this year I tried 28mm GP5000 and over my 30 mile loop my average was instantly 0.5mph higher. Not a massive amount but with the extra comfort and confidence I'm getting in the corners it's a no-brainer for the typical English country lanes I ride around. There's a misconception that tyre brands are pushing this trend, they're not, riders are opting for these tyres and the brands are providing them.

@@kpizzle1985 I disagree that isn't being pushed when tubeless tyres with low Psi, and hookless rims has exposed how dangerous things can get, and I don't remember anyone asking for hookless, it was designed, marketed and then sold..Like I said in the video the more comfortable or confident you are in a tyre you can be faster, but the fact is that with a better ride or more reckless rider on the tyres the speed of the thinner tyre is faster, fact... I explain exactly your stand point in the video, so I am really confused why you are saying you are 0.5mph faster on 28mm than your 25mm, but you clarify that you are because you are more comfortable & confident.. Please stop taking away the facts that a person who cares less about tyre comfort and is willing to push a set of 23mm tyres, no fks given even with the same power as you will be faster... I take the point you are because of this and that's what I said in the video.. I would buy the 28mm, but the speed data proves clearly that the 23mm are the fastest👌

@@THECONTROVERSIALCYCLIST You’ve misunderstood what I’ve said. The hour record is set on a velodrome, comfort is not a factor. It’s purely about the fastest tyre, even on a velodrome a 25mm tyre is faster than a 23mm. For road racing, pro riders still aren’t (relatively) bothered about comfort, they want the fastest tyre possible, the fastest riders are using 28mm tyres. I know Remco is on 26mm, but he’s Remco and his tyres probably measure a lot more on those wide Rovals. Gaudu is about the only WT pro sticking with 25mm tyres (on the road) with narrow wheels and he’s fallen off a cliff in recent years. I wouldn’t say I’ve ‘swallowed up the BS’, I put off the change for years as didn’t think it would make any difference, I reluctantly gave it a go and it made a big difference so I’m sticking with it. If I weren’t faster I’d happily go back to 25mm. I wont add weight to my bike for no reason. I’m no physician but I would expect the higher speed, volume/number of tyres and surface travelled on to have an impact. Ultimately, you cant really equate record setting cars and motorbikes to bicycles riding around English country lanes. I’m more inclined to side with the hacks that did multiple runs, with multiple riders, with measured power rather than your hack results where you didn’t even do this on the same day or even use the same tyres. All you’ve proved is that a Bontrager is faster than a Prime, with the greatest of respect and sincerity, your results are pretty meaningless. Tyre brands don’t care what width tyres you run, they don't even market wider tyres,. You have to buy their tyres regardless, it doesn't matter to them what size you buy.

@@kpizzle1985 THANKS FOR THE REPLY, BUT TOU HAVE PRODUCED NO REF OR EVIDENCE THAT 28MM TYRES WERE USED IN THE HOUR RECORD, AND SEEMS THAT YOU ARE NOW STATING 25MM WERE USED, NO REFERNCE TO 28MMs ANYMORE🤔. NOW LETS DEAL WITH TYRES AND BRANDS DONT CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT TO SELL YOU AS THEY DONT FEED THE PUBLIC AND MARKET THE NEXT BIG THING, SO THEY CAN MAKE PROFITS AS THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVE. 🤣🤣 EXPLAIN THE BLACKET SHIFT TO 29ERS THEN 27.5 WHEN WERE ALL ON 26 INCH MTBS AND THE BRANDS JUST DECIDED TO STOP SELLING THEM SO THEY COULD GIVE YOU MORE CHOICE AND BETTER PERFORMANCE, (THAT WAS THE MARKETING), WHEN THE TRUTH WAS YOU WERE BEING FORCED TO CHANGE... BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES THIS IS HAPPENING AT A GOVERNMENT LEVEL WITH ELECTRIC CARS, WHEN THERE ARE NO REAL ENVIROMENTAL GAINS MAY BE ACUAL DISADVANTAGES OVER WHAT WE HAVE AS THE CARS WILL NOT LAST MORE THAN 10 YEARS🤣🤣🤣 IT IS CALLED GLOBALISATION AT YOU HAVE BEEN A PART OF IT FOR 20 YEARS MY FRIEND, BUT YOU STILL DONT REALISE.. ALSO THE BRANDS DONT PRODUCE MASSIVE QUANTITIES OF ONE THING, ALL DONE IN CHINA AND THEN HAVE TO SELL IT TO YOU?? OF COURSE THEY DO.. THIS IS NOT A COTTAGE INDUSTRY WHERE THEY RING UP THE FACTORY AND SAY 28 MM TYRES ARE SELLIBG REALLY WELL CAN WE HAVE A FEW MORE TO MEET DEMANDS🤣🤣 THEY COULD BE BUYING FOR UPTO 5 YEARS OR ON A PROJETCT SET CONTRACT FOR 5 YEARS FOR CERTAIN AMOUNT SET AT A CERTAIN PRICE.. HONEST YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS INDUSTRY & CORPS WORK. YOU ARE MAKING OUT THAT CONTINENTAL TYRES ARE A FACTORY IN GERMAN THAT DOES EVERYTHING IN HOUSE AND HAS CONTROL FROM BEING TO END OF EVERY PRODUCT😅😅 THIS DIED OUT YEARS AGO...
