Are Women's Boots Better? Puma Ultra 1.3 Men's Vs Women's Review

In the past most 'women's' football boots have been nothing more than the men's boot with a different colour slapped on it, occasionally it would be a new colour and a soleplate from a different boot, adidas have been known to use the sprint frame outsole on their women's predators.
Puma have taken women's fit boots to a new level with the release of the Puma Ultra 1.3 Women's. This is a genuine women's fit boot with a totally different last designed around the female foot. This isn't a marketing gimmick there is a genuine difference between the 2 boots that extends well beyond the heel colour.
The question is, is the women's fit boot actually better? This isn't a boot that should be dismissed by men just because of a label that states a gender. We should see this as an opportunity to really tailor the boots we buy to our feet. You might find, that even as a man, that the women's fit boot fits you better due to your foot shape, similarly you might find due to your foot shape as a woman the men's fit boot is better for you. In my view this is about forgetting the labels attached to the boots and taking the opportunity to buy boots in different fits to suit us.
It's not all down to the fit though, the women's ultra also sports a stud pattern with conical studs by using the tooling from the puma king platinum, this might also change the dynamic for you and it also adds an reasonably significant amount of weight. We will go through all of this in the video, but you never know the Puma Ultra 1.3 Women's fit might be the ideal boot for you.
Note for the review, the more I use the women's fit Ultra the clearer it became that I was not going to be able to stretch the heel area out enough and in the end for me the heel area is too tight and I also prefer the men's fit in this area.

I don’t know who needs to hear this all these months later, but I got the women’s fit in a half size down from what would be my normal women’s equivalent (normally size 10 in Nike or adidas, ordered a size 11 women’s) and they’re the best fitting boot I’ve ever had. They’re damn near painted on. I have a moderately high arch.

It's nice that a big brand actually made a proper women's boot with a different last rather just giving the boot different colourway and calling it a day. The bladed soleplate seems nice, but it was nice that Puma did their speed boots with conical studs for a time there. A good comparison video! I like how in-depth you went with the fit of both!

Conical studs don’t cling onto the surface as much as blades. Women are at a higher risk of ACL injuries and blades increase that risk even more

This is true, I believe I read it was something to do with hip shape, so that's a great shout.

@@BootWizard Women are more likely to tear their ACL because the have wider hips. Therefore the femur has to run from the groin to the knee in a wider angle if you look on the medial side of the knee. Thats why women tend to overextend on the inside of their knee - due to that the ACL as well as the medial ligament are at a higher risk to tear (there's also a connection to the menstruation cycle bc of the inbalanced hormones and less stability in ligaments).

Honestly I don't think the weight is a huge deal because they're both very light I just think it's a mistake from puma from a marketing point of view.

Not EXACTLY sure why the women's have that particular tooling but i have done some reading and research for my own sake because i have suffered a lot of injuries and apparently women tend to have more knee injuries than men and it's been said that it's perhaps because of the boots. Again i'm not EXACTLY sure but i remember reading it's got something to do with women's hips being different and that causes some kind of kinetic tension with the sharper studs that just aren't suitable for most women.

Conical studs allow for more rotation in the ground. Bladed/Chevron studs give more traction but less rotation meaning all that stress goes to your knees. That’s why real AG plates are conical and the material isn’t as hard as FG studs.

they have conical studs probably because they tend to weigh less and the narrower profile of the conical studs offers better penetration on firm ground than the larger surface area of the blades

I would tend to agree with you however in this instance the bladed studs actually have a lower surface area and penetrate better than the conical studs.

This was interesting 🤔 very interesting 🧐 I’m surprised they couldn’t keep the weight down on the conical stud pattern. I mean you can make the studs hollowed out to shave of weight on the boots. I would have loved a totally different color way like Nike use to rock the women color ways,, I mean I personally think the best color ways from Nike are a few of the women ones. Not necessarily I think there were more feminine colors no no,,! but to me a largely bit of more “Dazzling and daring & Bright colors that gave a… “smacking you around proper kind of feeling”,, leaving you with a rosy cheeks kind of blushing feel to you,,,, as well as them women color ways back around the time of 2009 to 2017.

The soleplate with the conical studs has come straight off the king platinum and they haven't altered it which is why it adds the extra weight, the material construction is different keeps it on the slightly heavier side. I agree about the colours as well, some of the best colourways have been women's ones.

They do! Puma call it an MG (multi ground). 😉 Ps. Not the Platinum soleplate, but they have smaller in length/multiple conical studs.

@@pulso7784 the multi ground from puma is a very different style of soleplate though. Like there's Soooooooo many studs. They're absolutely not a boot I would use on FG, great AG option though.

I’m out of context, but do you think the soleplates can play a role in giving constant hamstring injuries? Do you believe conical studs are more better for rougher natural grass?

I think that the stud patterns can always impact the level and timing of injuries

@@BootWizard Gotcha, I tend to get injured more often with bladed studs for some odd reason. Conical studs are more comfortable to use. But then again, I play on really rough un-level pitches.

It’s because women are lighter than men, therefore struggles more to penetrate the ground properly.

The bladed studs in the forefoot of the men's ultra actually have a smaller surface area than the conical ones and dig into the ground more. I like your idea It's solid logic and could apply to the heel studs but in this instance not the ones in the forefoot.
