Are You a Christian?

The most pressing question of our time is, “Are you a Christian?” In this sermon, Dr. Baucham addresses this question which most people answer with a resounding yes, and he follows it with the question that causes many to stumble, “Why?”
Dr. Baucham lays out the most common answers to the question “why” by describing the most common answers people give. Generally, their answers arise from something they’ve done or are doing based on either tradition or some theology they’ve heard. Finally, Dr. Baucham sets the record straight regarding the Doctrine of Salvation, giving us a solid answer from the scripture to the question “Why?”

Salvation is of The Lord. Bottom line, we tell fellow Christians by their fruits, not by their profession. There will always be fruit because The Spirit does not give gifts only to some, but to all of those whom God through Christ has saved. By denying God’s own Word, people who have a horizontal understanding of salvation do much harm to Christ’s name. In an effort to self-promote their own holiness, they show us who they really are. Listen to this sermon and if you can deny it, fear for your self-reliance and repent. Believe God’s Word because through it Christ is revealed and it is only through Christ and only through leaning entirely on Him for your salvation that you are saved. Not by your works or your doctrine. “For from him and through him, and to him are all things. To God alone be the glory forever! Amen”. Rom 11:36

Do you know where I can find the rest of this series on the doctrine of salvation? He says there are 10 parts to the covenant of redemption based on John 17: 1. Starts in eternity past with the Godhead, not with man needing a "superhero". 2. Rooted and grounded in the love of God within the Godhead. 3. Every person whom the Father has given to the Son will be saved in time. 4. It's about the glory of God. Is that right? The main points got a little lost on me, sometimes I need to hear "okay, this is point number __" 😆

Unfortunately, the sermons are not labeled well, so I must listen to them to see where they belong. As I listen, however, I hear so much that I feel I must share now! Right around 32:02. So we can go out and start sinning again? If I see someone that profess to be saved... but see them out there doing what ever they want. They are still saved. OR what about the backslider. I do not understand. I thought that if you get saved it's ok to STOP SINNING. On a side note. there's a street preacher that claims that he does not sin. What does anyone think about that?

Warning, long reply. Hi, thank you for your comment and question! I'll start where you ended. The Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. A thinking person might counter and say the street preacher means that after "being saved," he no longer sins. If that is the case, the street preacher is a better man than my apostolic hero, the Apostle Paul. In Romans 7:19, Paul writes, "For the good that I will to do, I do not do, but the evil I will not to do, that I practice." In this passage, Paul says he struggles with sin, and we know he authored most of the New Testament. The new, redeemed condition that Christians find themselves in doesn't kill the nature of the flesh at once; that nature, of course, is sinful. Our new nature, that of the redeemed child of God causes us to have a new relationship with our old nature. As long as we remain in the flesh, sin and the possibility to sin are present. However, because we've been redeemed, we no longer desire sin; we are uncomfortable with sin. We, like Paul, want to do good. This is also inferred in other passages, for instance, II Corinthians 3:18, where Paul writes, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." The "image" we are being transformed into is that of our Sinless Lord. Also, note that we "are being transformed." We did not live in much sin without practice; we will only become more and more like Christ with practice. The good news is that we have the Holy Spirit and the Word of God as our guide. So, if you see someone who professes to be saved, but see them out doing what they want, one of two things is true, they are a new, un-discipled convert, or they are not saved. That may sound harsh, but that's not my declaration; that's what the Word says. "You will know them by their fruit" means it's not what they say that makes them Christian; it's what they do. Hebrews 10: 26-27 clearly states, "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Willful sin makes you an enemy of God. This is sinful behavior for which there is no conviction; the person is literally not bothered by your sin. I think there are many problems in this area; one pronounced problem is that people are Biblically illiterate; they don't know God's Word. Therefore, they don't know God, the Father, the Son, or the Spirit. Many have been told they can live anyway and go to heaven; that, however, is not what the Word of God says. I hope this helps clear things up.

MY understanding is if you are saved, baptized and you fall away go back to what you know is sin you CAN loose you salvation, you should try to grown in the word and learn how Jesus wants you to live.

We all have different understandings; this is why discussing God's Word is necessary. I also learned this; however, that would mean if we act a certain way, we will be, or maybe saved, this idea doesn't align with scripture. 1 John 2: 19 say's, "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." Plenty are baptized and attend church, the outward acts are just acts for many people. A person who is saved will remain. You know them, those who are saved, by their fruit, Matthew 7:20.

We are not that powerful to even think we can lose our salvation. If so I would be a Christian some of the time and then not all of the time. I've learned Baptism is merely an out word expression of faith. Christ died once & for all sin. Nothing (including baptism) will save us or get us to heaven, but His blood.! Can't lose salvation. One cannot remain Biblicly sound and call themselves Christian. For the word, the only account in scripture truth reads this way. Acts 11: 25-26 - Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, 26.) and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people.The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. The only occasion in scripture this word Christian is recorded. Christian means ( Little Christs ! Three things we must notice and understand from this verse. 1.) They were called Christian..... They didn't call themselves Christian! 2.) The disciples were called Christian...... not new or recent converts or neophytes. But disciples! They looked, acted, demonstrated Christ so well that those looking at them recognized whom they belonged too. Christ Jesus! 3.) This term Christian was not meant to compliment them. They were labeled this in hatred! " kill them" would have shortly followed. After all they had just crucified Christ Himself just a few years before this occasion.

i gave up listening. as paul says in Romans 10vvs 9-10 if u confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that u believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. and from there - we go on living in repentance and obedience to Christ. i have never heard a preacher quote this scripture whether in a sermon or conversation.

Since the Bible is true, it would appear to a non-believer that we have a problem and that the Gospel is foolish, especially in light of what Satan offers those of this world. According to the scripture and my lived experience, the number of Christians is far less than being professed. True believers are of one mind, we believe every Word found in the Bible. Our Savior promised us salvation and every believer will be saved; it is not us who accomplishes that, it is Christ and He alone. There are many reasons to believe, none of which may be sufficient for you; they may all appear as foolishness in this "enlightened" world we live in. The greatest of those reasons is that all have sinned and fallen short and all are in need of a savior.

Your problem is, as I pointed out, not one of you can show that your version is the right one or if there is a right one. Every version of Christian, including your own, claims the bible is "true" but they can't agree on what they mean by that. So, yes, you seem to all be frauds and quite foolish. You are a creation of God. Only those that have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour are the children of God. God's word and this is Jesus Christ talking when He was preaching said. How will the people know unless one teaches them. A lost person doesn't know and sometimes even care if they are lost and will be separated from God for all eternity. Are you a christian? Nope, and never will be. Oh....I must be a nonbeliever or atheist then. Nope, I believe in God, I've been saved for many years. I have a very close relationship with him. If that's true, then why do I say I'm not a christian? Because christian points to religion, Jesus isn't religion. Also it was the world/sin that gave the disciples that name. I am what God says I am. Loved, forgiven, blessed, his, redeemed, chosen, a son and heir. I'm the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. I am the righteousness of God In me. Why aren't you? Are you a christian? If so, why? God says you are more. Why would you identify yourself by you denomination, or the name the enemy calls you? Christian doesn't mean Christ like. If it did, then why does Jesus tell the Christian's to depart from him in Matthew 7:21-23? Because they have no part in him. They are not his sheep.
