What do people normally wear to royal Holloway? I really am confused

Honestly my main concern with Royal Holloway is the area. Is there easy shopping areas that are fun to shop in close? Is there a Waterstones nearby? Because I am so desperate to have one in my area. Also, I saw on the uni website that there’s a bus to Windsor, and I was wondering how hassle-free that bus is to and back from uni to Windsor?

Hey!! From campus the bus is very accessible to take you to Staines and or Windsor, the reliability of when they come is questionable 😭 but they should run ever 20/30 minutes. I have no idea about a Waterstones, but the only main shops in Egham are on the hight street and honestly there's not much a variety but stains does have more and is very close by

If you schedule it in you can definitely make time for it, but I am completely grateful for mine because it just allows me to express myself and have fun!

I want to go there but do you think it will be hard to have a social life if I don’t live in the accommodations?? Cause I want to have the uni experience without living there, will not living there prevent that?

Okay this pretty much depends on you really. Most of the people I know who stay at home kind of just come to uni for their lectures and seminars then dip back home. They might hang out with some friends but that's pretty much it. And in that case, they would miss out for sure. HOWEVER, if you're constantly engaging and being social, like joining sports and societies, staying to go socials (can be non alcoholic socials as well), even cooking at your friends accom, taking trips out, meeting up on weekends, is a good way to stay involved and still get that uni experience. It CAN definitely be done.

It honestly depends on what I have going on. If I have essays due or work to be done then maybe once a week, if I don't have much work to do then sometimes 2/3 times a week

But when I go out it's not always clubbing ,majority of the time yes😂, but it's also house motives, restaurants, bars that sorta thing

@@VenusAshu Ahhh nice okay I see. And for nights out in London they always sound great but obviously like how hard of expensive is it to get there? Cos there is the train from Egham straight to Waterloo right?

@@andrewlaing Yeah if you're taking train it's sticky because getting there is no problem, but when Waterloo closes your only other option is to Uber back (a good £70) or wait till 6/7 when it does open. Sometimes the uni will organise coaches to London clubs if it's a feature night and it takes you there and back, so I highly suggest doing that, though I don't know what will be happening for this year considering were in a pandemic 😭

I’m black British and I am feeling the exact same, literally watch about 30 videos from royal Holloway and haven’t seen one black male and very very few black females, worried I’ll stick out in the uni especially as it is in a predominantly white area and I am from the diverse west London

Yes of course! You don't have to apply for on campus accomodation if you don't want to, but if you're a first year the uni will prioritize you

Why is gowar more expensive the Williamson time and butler

No clue! People say it's because Gowar is supposed to be for 2nd, 3rd, and postgrads, but tbh I've seen first years there and it's practically around the same size as Williamson Tuke and Butler.

Hmmm I would have to say that Runnymede, whilst not the cheapest, is cheaper than other accoms and does have good social vibes. It's ensuite and the rooms are pretty good and I could be wrong but it's just a little cheaper than tuke and butler, however, unless you have the floor on the top, the kitchens are smaller.

Heyy! And yeah in all honesty I love my degree. Which makes me sound like some poster kid for it but for me it's really enlightening. Whilst the English side is reading heavy and typical essays and exams about typical English topics, the creative writing side explores more about myself as a writer. We look at other writers yes, but we apply their styles, techniques and even ideologies to our own writing which is really interesting. I would only recommend my course if you're truly passionate about writing and literature. Because if you aren't then it won't be for you. Hope this helpss

@@larablackburn9649 oooo it depends. I think because I'm juggling a lot more than just uni it feels like quite a lot of work. Especially in the first year when you have to read a book a week. Actually to be fair every year you have to read a book a week😭 but you get used to it and most times you don't even need to finish the books completely

Mary-Kate McAllister yes this is true. It was certainly the case when I got there in 2002. But the truth of the matter is that no one makes a big deal about your background, they were all great people no matter where they came from. You all become friends either way.

Yeah I agree. There are alot of upper class, private school kids. But the majority of us don't care about people's economic background. We care about having a good time and enjoying the 3 years we have here!😂

Oh 100% I started when I was 18 and didn't realise at the time but had slot of friends that were 20 or 21 in first year. There was one girl who was even 24. People don't really care how old you are and most of the time we cant tell the difference 😅

It's pretty good and works well across the campus. I think it's only crashed a few times during last year which is to be expected.

Unfortunately no. Black students make up only 8 percent (approximately) of the student population. Nevertheless, there is a strong community of black students and societies like ACS (Afro Caribbean Society) and WOCC (Women of Colour Collective) are a great way of meeting other black students.🙌🏿

There's a various amount of people there tbh. People always make fun of GE being the private schooled posh bit of the uni but I've met alot of people there who by no means live up to that stereotype. So it can depend on what kind of people you run with but a lot of the times you do find that typical southern posh lot there. BUT WE ALL STILL GET LIT THO!!

Definitely. There are a ton of international students that transfer from overseas and make up 1/4 of the student body and many of them are from countries like Korea, Malaysia, Japan etc. And that's disregarding those that are originally from South East Asian but live in the UK or Europe already (home students).
