The 'half-arsed' manager! That's the phrase I think about but rarely say out loud. The 'half-arsed’ manager, in my opinion, prioritises their own development over that of their team (whether by selfish intention, or simple lack of valuable experience). When they do mention "team development", it is merely lip service. Half-arsed managers do not provide regular employee feedback and at best rely on ‘gut feel’ when considering the competency of their team members. Simply put, they stink at team development! They micromanage when it is not necessary - they have little experience when it comes to situational leadership.
The 'full-arsed' managers, on the other hand, are Legends; they prioritise the development of team members over their own development. They inspire and support with clear, unambiguous training roadmaps for those within their charge. They encourage team members to take responsibility and ownership, utilising situational leadership effectively to support their teams without pissing them off. The 'full-arsed' manager build highly motivated teams that are capable of and allowed to work freely!
