Taphophile is an accurate description of me. I love the quiet, the peace, the history, the art, in some places the specimen trees. They are great places to take photographs. To walk, to unwind from the bustle of modern GO! GO! GO! Society. Alot of cemeteries have walking clubs that meet there to walk. Some have tours you can take. Some around Halloween have Ghost Tours. In Savannah and New Orleans those tours are year round. Visit a historic cemetery, trust me... the living are FAR more of a threat than the dead. OH! And before I forget... Any cemetery that has a civil war section will have groups that put flags on the graves for holidays. This includes national cemeteries. You can ask to help out placing flags to honor those who gave all for their country.

I'm a proud taphopile. My favorite cemeteries are Clinton Grove Cemetery in Mt. Clemens, MI and Mt. Olivet in Detroit. I have mentioned Clinton Grove before. It has veterans from the war of 1812 buried there. The Mt. Clemens historical society does an annual cemetery walk every October. I have done the cemetery walk many times, and would do it every year if I had the time. The guides have so much fascinating historical information to talk about and you will always meet fellow local history buffs too. I love that the walk is always in the fall because the cemetery has lots of huge maple trees that make the tour so visually stunning. It makes for a perfect autumn day. Mt. Olivet is great for looking at old private mausoleums and other unique personal memorials. The cemetery was built in 1888, so there are a lot of great 19th century style memorials. There are genetations of notable Detroit families buried there, and some of their private mausoleums are just incredible looking. My grandparents, great grandparents, and other relatives from my mom's side of the family are buried there, so I have been visiting the place since I was a little girl. I remember seeing a few of the mausoleums and asking my mom if they were tiny churches, lol. The cemetery attracted a lot of attention when a plane crashed into it in 1991. All three people aboard the plane died in the crash. I'm also fond St. Peter's cemetery in Mt. Clemens. It's an old, tiny Catholic cemetery with no real historical significance... but my mom is buried there.

Its in a bad part of town but once your in some of the outside noise calms down. It is peaceful. I got a folding chair I take and visit a bit with him. On the other side of the cemetary there is people born like in the mid 1860's and passed away in the 1930's or 40's. Its kinda neat.

I am only just starting my spiritual journey. I take our daughters to the different cemeteries in our area, and they love it. We talk about the people there, and my oldest makes little stories about who they might have been ❤️ They also love visiting my father, who passed Way too soon, 2 years ago. Being a history buff, I love visiting cemeteries. My absolute favourite is Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York. It is the largest in the US by number of internments (over three million), covers 365 acres and has some interesting people buried there; from the obscure to the renowned, numerous people resting within Calvary contributed to the making of New York. The one aspect I like about Calvary Cemetery is how well it is incorporated into the urban fabric of Queens. It is surrounded by freeways, but they do no detract from the beauty of the cemetery. It is easy to feel isolated while exploring it, but always be aware that you're still in America's largest city. The cemetery also boasts some of the most compelling views of Manhattan I have ever seen, so I highly recommend a visit if you able to.

I am a person who loves to see the old headstones from the 1700's and 1800's. I like to pay my respects to all the soldiers and sailors war markers and I especially love when I see them from the Civil War. I try to imagine what life was like for these people back then, I try to imagine what their funeral might have been like, the hearse, the horses that carried it,etc. I see so much suffering at the family plots which often house the remains of many of these people's children. I always am respectful. I feel like no one visits the centuries old graves anymore. I do this when I go back home to PA where my family is buried in two historic cemeteries. There is nothing like this where I live now. Am I crazy? My husband doesn't understand. Many times I bring my dad with me

I don’t think I’ve ever just walked in a cemetery, except for maybe Arlington National Cemetery, although I haven’t been there in years. I’ve wondered a lot of the same things, not just how they died, but how their life was. I am absolutely a taphophile. Have been my whole life, not that I knew it had a name. I got from my mom. When we were kids every vacation included time in a cemetery. One of our favorite games was to tell stories about how a family died, or how they lived. Depending on the dates on each stone. We learned a lot of history that way, time frames of wars, famine, and disease. I still like to take my kids to cemeteries. Soon it will be my grandchildren.

One day I went to this cemetery where I live.. ( Nisky Hill ) and I took a book, wine & cheese and sat by (Eugene Graces) grave that had a big concrete bench in a circle around this big monument that was in the middle. He was the founder of the Bethlehem Steel Company. Also his big house after he passed was turned into a nursing home that I worked at for 25 years. Anyway as I was sitting there enjoying the quiet and eating my cheese my cell phone rang. It was my husband and of course he ask me where I was. I was embrasesing to tell him in a way, I didn't want him to think I was weird or something. And he just said "That's a beautiful place just be careful driving home" Lol Very peaceful place indeed. From Bethlehem Pa.

Generally speaking, I avoided cemeteries until the Love of my Life died 18 years ago. Since then, I visit her grave at least once a month to pray and keep things clean and orderly. I get the impression they know when you've visited them. It's like leaving them spiritual mail. You can fly a camera drone around a cemetery and get a whole new perspective. As for deer and small game, in certain areas, these prey attract wolves and coyotes. Always be aware of your surrounds in a cemetery as you would in the woods.

The reason why i have taphophile is that one cemetery is full of history and the old infrastructure made my face smile, and it's quiet
