This is very rare footage of the filming of are you being served with interviews from some of the cast and lots of behind the scenes footage. I hope you enjoy! sorry about the sound but the quality isn't excellent

I worked 26 yeras in an old-fashioned department store and I can vouch for just how accurate a description of life there Grace Brothers was. It was a world of its own. I could have moved elsewhere for more money but I loved the atmosphere. Now these businesses are almost all gone. Which is a shame.

Another Greg here, same. Seen each episode at least a dozen times and I know EXACTLY the punch-line and still I giggle. (Mrs. Slocombe to Miss Brahms as a large busted woman approaches the counter) "bring out the Kilimanjaro line Miss Brahms".

Such a treat! Thanks for sharing. My all-time favourite show. I never get tired of them, and often enjoy an episode if I'm feeling blue. John Inman and Mollie Sugden were two of the funniest people ever, and the rest of the cast was truly stellar.

Frank Thornton is the only one that sounds and looks completely different from his character, Captain Peacock. The rest of them all sound the same so it’s like they playing themselves. Thanks for this. Please load more!

Some may have remained in character for the interview. Wendy Richard normally didn't have that thick Cockney accent.

Quite a few comments here dwelling on the actors being dead. So they're dead, everyone dies. Focus instead on the fact that they left a super legacy of comedy with this delightful series; it's silly to boo-hoo about them not being with us anymore.

@eduardo_corrochio

@@dickiegreenleaf750 It is odd. I can understand if it's a comment about an actor or celebrity who very recently passed away; I posted a comment about Jessica Walter the day she died, under a clip from Arrested Development. But making a comment years after a cast member passed on ... I don't get it. Might be a generational thing. I'm 55. Oh, well.

You have to understand, you see these people on your TV and you assume they’re still alive. I do that because even shows from the 60’s I look at these people like they’re still with us. Death is still a concept us humans can’t grasp sometimes.
@eduardo_corrochio
@eduardo_corrochio 3 жыл бұрын
@@varrick1226 I'd never assume that actors on TV are still alive today if they look 50 years old on an episode from 1975. Their age would be 96 now. Sorry, I don't share that point of view; I don't watch Bewitched and look at Paul Lynde like he's still alive. No disrespect, just completely different mind-set here.

Meha Murmurs I think it's great you find it funny and the humour travels so well. Sometimes English humour isn't seen as funny in the States. And the fact you find it funny still means the writing and actors were really great.
@RandomPlayIist

@@Useaname yeah this show was aired in the States on PBS in the 80's which I saw as a child and then again about 20 years later where I rewatched it. PBS introduced Americans to a lot of British TV over the last forty years or so.

You said it. I remember when beloved cast members would appear live for the local PBS station's (WHYY Channel 12 Wilmington/Philadelphia) annual funding drives. That's how I became an admirer of Are You Being Served? and The Red Shoes (1948). Those were the days alright; would've been the late-'80s and very early-'90s.

This would have been the technical run through prior to the evening recording in front of a studio audience, most probably in Studio 8 at the BBC Television Centre. TC8 was a preferred studio for situation comedies at the BBC. The studio no longer exists as it was demolished in the redevelopment of TV Centre. Hi-de-hi, Open All Hours, Porridge, Morecambe and Wise, ‘Allo ‘Allo, and the Two Ronnies were some of the other programmes recorded in TC8.

And if you listen to this interview You will notice that the Real Life personalities, voices and mannerisms of the cast members are identical to the characters they Play in the series. This sounds foolish, one reason why I have never told anyone this, but when I was in the Navy in the 1980s and stationed in Bermuda I was too intimidated by the prospect of running into a stuffy/snobby Captain Peacock type floor walker to ever visit a large department store in Hamilton.
