One of the things that most impresses about John Inman - apart from being a hugely skilled performer - is that he was so effortlessly and naturally charming in everything he did, whether it was Are You Being Served?, Grace and Favour, Odd Man Out, or any other show. You just enjoyed his presence, and that enjoyment never faded.

I loved John Inman. He was an amazing actor and such a lovely man. I joined John's fan club when I was 13 and I met John twice at the conventions and also went to the BBC to watch a recording on my birthday 16 and they called my name to say that it was my birthday and John came up to me and wished me a happy birthday and gave me a kiss on the cheek. It is very apparent from this programme that John Inman was a charming and humble man. It also strikes you that his fellow stars of screen and stage got their fame through sheer hard work and talent. Roy Castle, Danny LaRue, Molly Sugden, David Nixon not only was it worth spending a few bob to go and see them on stage or cabaret, they hold a gravitas that is not matched by any so called star of today.

I really wish they did a Christmas special on Grace and Favour, like they did on the first show. They did what I felt were like Halloween episodes. Also there was no reason to stop (at that time) Are You Being Served? It was still very popular, with high ratings buttt they wanted to put on another show and of course picked Are You Being Served to be removed 😐. Molley always felt they should have called Grace and Favour...Are You Being Served Again, like they did here in America. She felt people in England didn't realize what they were watching, hence the reason why they kept saying on the show..are you free and mentioning the store every once in a while. Oh I miss them and Open all Hours, Keeping up Appearances, early Last of the Summer Wine and so many more but I'm rambling. Thanks again for sharing this.

1976 was a great year for John Inman and the Are You Being Served team as a whole. Their show was a huge ratings hot on the BBC with the 1976 series achieving very high ratings. Their 1976 Christmas Special would air two days after this episode, and got big viewers. Their stage show was a super success, outdoing the Dad's Army stage show which was touring at the same time. 1976 was truly a great year for AYBS and possibly they reached a peak, especially all the original cast were still with the show.

It’s so strange to me, I grew up watching “Are You Being Served?” In the late 90’s to early 00’s with my late grandparents and to think of how virtually all these people no longer physically exist on this planet. As of writing this, only two supporting actresses from “Are you being served” are still alive. I say “physically exist” because in many ways, it’s as if actors like John Inman have cracked the code to immortality. He still exists every bit as much as he did when I was a child, if not more so as I find more wonderfully camp AF footage of him now as an adult. He’s still having a very real impact on my life even though he’s been gone for years. When I was younger, Cinema from 50 years ago felt so much older and more detached from the current world because of course it was all in black-and-white with archaic audio. Now, it feels very strange to think that “Are You Being Served” was filmed almost 50 years in the past. Thank you John, for all the neat stuff you did and are currently making me think about.

John Inman, what a consummate entertainer, what a talent. You can gauge a person by the adulation of their peers, friends and family, not that forced , “I’m on telly, I must be nice”, or if at a funeral of someone who was a nasty old sod, people feel obliged to be polite so will remark; “They we’re such a decent soul, nary a nasty word did they utter”, when in truth they’d have much rathered watch a particularly long very monotone question time in the House of Lords. But none of that is so when the msn in question, and someone who people will happily go out of their way to see and support, the one and only, Mr John Inman, Vale to Thee!

George Plagianos Thank you Brother... we’ve got to stick together... I’m a bit ashamed of myself for letting her comment get to me that bad, but enough is enough, in these times we live in, society rules are still so hippo critical, we are “suppose”to be in a world that should be able to get along and accept everyone for who they are, yet we live in a Fake Plastic reality of what ‘Beautiful Perfection ‘ is suppose to be but the truth is we still live in a world that is still quick to sweep up whats not acceptable or uncomfortable to talk about under the rug... a world that thinks plastic surgery will make “You” perfect, acceptable,desireable... as long as you look “ good “ & rich..everything else about you can be overlooked.... shallowness,Fake, now its all about giving someone else a compliment because of what they could potentially offer you... nothing is Genuine anymore, but 99% of Human beings that ive met that were Truely Genuine, compassionate, Honest,& Quick to help you if you needed were and are Gay.... So if i have to be labeled GAY, then i wear that Badge Proudly!!
